Fensalir

Location Name Description
Fensalir As the second largest city in Melrath, the ancient settlement of Fensalir stands as a sacred bastion that guards the ancient wisdom of the first Melrathi. Followers of the spirits, and guardians of the "old ways" the people of Fensalir wish to remain hidden in their deep forest where the outside world cannot reach them.
Juniper Hills Juniper Hills is one of the two districts in the upper city. It is a rustic outdoors-man district where people with wilderness occupations and the military thrive. It's a fresh and active place.
Aspenglades Aspenglades is one of the two districts in the upper city. The population is higher than that of Juniper Hills, but Aspenglade is still a fairly calm district built in the mainly deciduous forest.
The City Center ("Aurelien Town") The Central District, or “Aurelien Town” in popular speech, is one of the three districts in the lower city. The Center is located in the middle of the lower part of Fensalir, flanked by Pinegarden to the west and Springwater to the East.
Pinegarden This one of the districts in the lower city. Pinegarden is located near the river, with a harbour area for the boats which transport goods and passengers between Fensalir and Raelia in the seasons when the river is open. The district is known for its lumber mills and other businesses related to construction and woodworking. The architecture is often simple and so are the local taverns and many small workshops and shops.
Springwater Springwater is a very cosy district in the lower city. It's characterized by its many small artisan workshops, taverns and entertainment. The district is a bastion of tradition. The festival meadow of Fensalir is an important area for celebrations and ceremonies.
Fenmoor Criminality is low in Fensalir, but it exists. Fenmoor is Fensalir’s small den of crime and sin, located outside the nice crescent shape, south of Springwater. It is a small, shabby and sparsely populated settlement in the shadows of dense and dark old forest. Fenmoor is often not recognized as a real part of Fensalir.
The Old Ruins This is not a modern city district in today’s Fensalir, but a place in the wilderness outside the city, to the northeast. It’s abandoned. Like the Aurelien Arc, it’s a mysterious inheritance from Fensalir’s unknown past. The old ruins remain to be explored.

Jobs

Jobs within Melrath come in a variety of shapes and sizes metaphorically speaking. Many job are highly dependent upon where you live. Below will be listed the types of jobs that are most notable or available in a particular area so that you can better choose where your character might like to live or visit.

Raelia: Raelia is infamous for it's political scene. Between the backstabbing and debates of the Circle, to lobbyists responsible for advocating for the interests of businesses and the people, Raelia is flush with jobs dealing in politics. Many members of the Circle employ secretaries, assistants, and other staff members to help manage their workload. Hosting galas and parties are all part of the political arena within Raelia and many people are employed simply to facilitate this budding industry.

Beyond the gilded halls of the Circle is a bustling industry of crafters and artisans within the capital of Melrath. Due to the strong presence of nobles and the wealthy, there is a high demand for individuals such as woodworkers, stonemasons, carvers, painters, weavers and other artisans. Raelia is the seat of culture within the nation and it also holds host to a few theaters and other places of entertainment and enjoyment, such as bars, restaurants and of course brothels. Aside from these sources of employment, there is also a booming fishing industry that is controlled by House Crovan of the Melrath nobility.

Fensalir: The city of Fensalir is ancient and full of history. Here the people have deep ties to the land and the spirits that inhabit it. While leather and woodworking artisans are not uncommon, that is far less of a need for pretty trinkets and gowns here. There is a very carefully managed logging industry that is mindful of the health of Myrkvior Forest. Loggers are common as are bowyers, fletchers, and sculptors who can make tools and art from wood. Fensalir is also famed for it's hunters and trappers who hunt in the forests and mountains of the region for prized pelts and culinary delicacies. Beyond civilian jobs, there is a small but well known group of individuals in the city who take on the role of Ydalir Rangers. These men and women are responsible for protecting the natural world while also keeping peace with civilization.

Noatun: This small quaint little village is famed for two major industries; both of which are linked to the sea. The first is a robust and bustling fishing industry. The waters of Felwind Strait are deadly for the untested navigator, however they are home to wonderfully protected waters which are filled to the brim with sea life. Cold water varieties of fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, cod, and trout are abundant, as are a trove of different kinds of shellfish. Lobster and shrimp are local favorites for cooks and chefs, as are delicacies such as blow-fish and eel. The majority of the citizens of Noatun are fishermen however a large minority work in the shipbuilding industry. The ship-builders of this village are known as masters of their craft. It isn't uncommon for missives from Raelia to summon particularity talented builders to Raelia to work on their water craft.

Vorkund: The alpine village of Vorkund is located in a remote area that crests the summit of the Melrathi Mountain Range. Here life is not easy and only the strongest survive. Hunters, ice fishermen, and trappers are invaluable in this icy world. With a diet consisting mostly of roasted meat and salt cured fish, it is those who provide food who have stable jobs in Vorkund. There is also a high demand for those with a skill in needle-craft to help in the making of sturdy clothing. Blacksmiths are also invaluable for shoeing mounts and crafting tools/weapons.

Alivilda: Perhaps one of the smallest settlements in Melrath, the tiny town of Alivilda is known for one thing and one thing only; the production of ale and other such drinks. Locals tend to either go into the farming trade as to grow wheat and hops or into the brewing profession. There are acres and acres of farmland around the village along with barns and estates dedicated to the production of drink.

Religion

The religion of the Melrathi people differs a great deal from that of many nations across Idalos. Whereas many people worship the Immortals, the Melrathi have long since abandoned the Divine and instead pay homage to the Spirits of the sky, water, and earth.

Many spirits have long since claimed Melrath as their home. It is widely common for citizens of Melrath to create small shrines within their homes to the local spirits. The wealthy and prosperous merchant class of the nations will also pay handsomely to erect shrines and small temples outdoors that can also serve as local gardens and parks for the public to visit. Melrathi enjoy leaving gifts of food and trinkets for the spirits while also spending time at their shrines in prayer. It is custom for a local Aesir Priest or Priestess to oversee such practices in order to ensure that the spirits are never offended by the forward nature of mortals.

More adventurous folk prefer a more personal relationship with the spirits and will seek them out themselves in order to commune with them. The majority of individuals interact with lower level spirits such as Anak, however a rare few have managed to encounter one of the powerful Induks who call Melrath their home. These powerful entities can be as tumultuous as they are peaceful in nature. The Induks are essentially the highest tier of the Melrath pantheon of worship. There are several known Induks within the kingdom of Melrath, however as the arcs pass, more and more are being discovered in the forgotten places of the world.
