The cold had settled in around them and there was snow lightly falling on the settlement. Bundled against the cold Jasper sat under the branches of one of the trees just beyond the edge of forest. While he liked to be in tune with nature, but he also wasn’t about to spend the season sick, so he was bundled against the cold and sat on a blanket that helped keep some of the cold out.
The young Aesir had enjoyed this move to Sweetsong. They were drawn back to nature in a way that wasn’t possible in Raelia. Even Alivilda where the people and spirits had long ago learned to live in balance with each other was different from what he felt here. There was a wildness to this island. Jasper was pondering that as he sat reaching out to the spirit world. The tree he was sitting under had grown used to the young Aesir’s presences. Jasper often meditated under its branches and would climb high into the tree to exercises. On this particular trial Jasper was focused on meditating. His Aesir talents had drawn him out to this spot on this particular trial. He could sense that there was a vengeful Anok out in the forest.
Jasper could sense the field Anoks and spirits around him, but he pushed past those and focused on the spirit he felt in the wilds. It was hard at this distance to detect the emotion that was driving the anok, but it was a powerful one. Eventually Jasper opened his eyes and stood up. His eyes showed the witches gleam as he looked into the distance. His brown eyes showed speaks of blue. He began to walk in the direction he felt the Anok. As he moved. His booted feet wrapped against the cold, and the Grendel cloak wrapped around him with the food pulled up so that all you could see what his eyes. Under the pulled up hood his hair seemed to cling to his head.
As he walked he became aware that the other spirits and Anoks in the forest watching. They were curious to see what he was doing. They were also aware of the Anok that he was searching for. Relying on his own talents and those abilities taught him by the Aesir, and he had randomly learned. He moved in the direction he had chosen. He didn’t rush, but he also didn’t hesitate to head towards it. This was what the Aesir were originally brought into being.
He was the bridge between the two worlds. As he walked, his understanding began to expand. He had noticed that the spirits here were surprised by him. As he walked he began to wonder how much the Aesir themselves have changed the spiritual landscape of Melrath. They had in a way woven the two worlds even closer. Jasper wondered if what he was sensing was that this part of the world the spirit world was less intwined. He wasn’t sure how to treat that.
Jasper knew that he was drawing close, and he stopped for a moment and took the time to focus, like he had meditated under the tree, on this spirit. Closer more things began clear, including the nature of this Anok. Anoks were very simple spirits they really had once focus, and the one before his was a Anok of violence. That in an of itself wasn’t all that surprising. Such Anok’s weren’t uncommon. They didn’t cause violence, but could be drawn to it and influence a situation even more. Jasper was actually sure he had even passed a few on his way here. Violence was very common in the wilds, but not like this Anok. This Anok aspect had been heightened. Something had fueled this Anok and now it was like a kettle ready to pop its lid. There was foliage between him and the anok, and he could sense a stillness in the air. Jasper reached inside of himself for his ether and used the phasing technique to look beyond and see what was beyond the bushes that separated him from the spirit. His rupturing didn’t help his like see the Anok, but he could the context of where it was at. This wasn’t like the time when he was robed and did a quick count. Most of what he saw was a clearing with some rocks. The phasing portal wasn’t particularly large which limited what he could see. At the last moment he realized that he saw a body laying among the rocks, then his phasing snapped shut.
Jasper pondered what he had seen, unable to really make any sense of it. A dead body should mean that violence was done. The young aesir closed his eyes again as he pondered this mystery. He paused and titled his head and tried to brought the picture back up in his mind. The body was laying among the rocks. Jasper thought, maybe the spirit was following the person. They were angry or possible just planning on being very violent, it could have drawn the Anok, and then its emotions fed the spirit. But how could the person have died an not satisfied the Anok. Hmm, there was no violence in the person’s death. Heart attack, maybe even slipping and breaking their neck on the rocks.
Jasper took a deep breath. He opened eyes and looked around. The spirit itself won’t hard anyone but who knew who it might fuel at the wrong moment. Jasper carefully walked beyond the clearing prepared for what was ahead. As he approached he could sense the spirit he paused before it. His abilities where screaming at him with this agitated Anok before him. As Jasper stood before spirit and slipped into meditation. He couldn’t really talk with the spirit, but being an Aesir wasn’t an easy job.
After a bit of time, Jasper could sense that spirit was connected to the body. He felt the wash of violence come off of the Anok, and suddenly turned his head side ways and was sick from the emotion. He turned back and reached out to the creature. Yes the body while it had been a live and this anok had feed off of each other. The Anok was now trying to feed that to Jasper. He was aware that this might happen. He also understood that it was just the nature of the spirit.
Jasper breathed deeply, but could feel the influence of the anok. It trying to dig up those suppressed violent emotions. To say Jasper didn’t have them would be a lie. Lynond was his greatest weakness in this regard. He was the only person Jasper had hit in anger. Jasper looked at the spirit of violence and slowly said. “You need to be free. Your reliance on this person is starving you.” He said and suddenly realized the truth of it. A Anok like this would easily find fullfillment in such a place as this and could wander un attached and not a big influences. This person had unknowing trapped both of them in a game of promises of violence. The Anok was trying to attach itself to Jasper or maybe someone else, and not attach like Eldloga and his were bonded, that bond brough growth, this just starved each other.
“Dear Anok, you have already witnessed violence. This person’s death was violent.” Jasper said trying to distract from his growing desire to smash in his brother’s face. He could sense the Anok acknowledge his point. Jasper for the first time looked down, he could really tell anything about the person through the but the dryish red marks indicated that they had smashed themselves on the rock. Jasper felt the pressure decrease a bit as the spirit accepted or feed upon that violence. It wasn’t the great violence that it had been promised but it was something.
Jasper remembered the time he had last fought with his brother. Before he left to become an Aesir. He could feel the spirit feeding of the echoes of violence in that memory. Jasper pulled up all of the memory including his conversation with his mother afterwards. The feeling of love and acceptance was less then pleasant to the Anok, and it withdrew from Jasper. He could sense the spirit turn away in disgust detecting that the young Aesir wouldn’t be a good sources. Jasper stepped back until he was next to a bush. Looking over he could see one of the Fairies watching him with a raised eyebrow.
His Aesir training told him that while the spirit wasn’t back to normally, it had changed. It’s build up was already beginning to blow over as it had been convinced to taste violence. It was now seeing other acts of violence to feed upon. Jasper sighed. The Anok was back to behaving normally. Its influence was still stronger but a few animals catching lunch should help calm it down to another Anok floating through the world.
The fair he had seen tilted its head and said. “Why.” Jasper smiled at the creature and said.
“Our worlds live with each other. We affect each other. Who ever that was harming both our worlds. If someone didn’t help then that monsters curse would have continued.” Jasper said.
“What are you going to do with the body.” The Fair asked curious.
“They craved violence, I see no more fitting end then to let violence bury them how every it pleases.” Jasper stood up straight and turned to leave. “did you want a ride?”
“Can I ride on top of your head?” It asked excitedly.
“If you can stay on.”
“What is this you are wearing.” The fairy asked.
“The skin of another monster.” He said. He processed to share the story as they made there way back to the settlement.
