he healer found that she enjoyed talking to Matthias, he seemed genuinely interested in her and what she had to say. Genna could tell that there was a certain amount of skepticism in him, but she was fine with that actually. Many of the men she talked to fell into one of three categories, either they didn’t really hear a word she said because they were too busy staring. They were shy and intimidated by her and didn’t really interact or open up despite her attempts to bring them out. The last group was those who were coworkers or married. Well they could be great friends, but the first group well she felt the same way about them, and with the second group she always made sure they came as a package deal.
So it was nice to have someone who wanted to get to know her and was free for her to get to know. He seemed to have an internal debate about weather or not to tell her about his interest in forging. Eventually he opened up about his desire to learn to reforge the sword he had picked up earlier. Genna blinked in surprise but smiled with pleasure.
“Making your own sword sounds like a wonderful idea.” She said honestly though she felt like something her father said was echoing in the back of her mind.
“That way it is even more a part of you, and something you made. I hope that you get the chance to reforge that sword, and possible make more.” Genna was beginning to feel a bit guilty about distracting Matthias from his job, but something in her wanted to keep talking.
It was then that he asked her about her hair. Genna was surprised at it certainly wasn’t on the standard list guys asked her, though the question pleased her as it was a honest question that he was curious about. Genna resisted the urge to touch her hair, but her smiled grew pleased at the question and she answered it.
“I do wear my hair down, though I usually have some type of braid work going on. I like doing my hair in the morning. It is relaxing and I almost find myself meditating when doing it. It also reminds me of my sister and mother.” She paused and continued.
“Though her at Storm Edge I tend to keep it braid for more practical reasons. When it is in a braid it stays out of the way, weather that is in surgery or in a fight.”
Genna loved how he quickly went back to the healing subject. She was still smiling and then tilted her head and gave the man before her a look that said she was going to be mischievous. Then she turned and called out to the head blacksmith. He grunted and made his way over. Genna glanced at Matthias and said.
“Let’s see if we can’t help you reach one of your goals.” When the man came over Genna spoke up.
“Matthias here would be interested in learning some blacksmithing.” She said honestly.
“We were wondering if maybe he could get a few lessons besides his normal volunteered time.” He looked at Genna who was giving him a friendly but serious look. She was honest about her request, but there wasn’t any expectation in her look that he would have to do what she asked. The master blacksmith looked over at Matthias.
“Well I can use the help on the iron.” He said looking at Matthias.
“I can teach you some basics if your willing to put the efforts in.” The way he said this last line implied effort might be an understatement. Genna watched to see what Matthias would say, but her eyes were encouraging him on.
