Magical Discpline Cap / Starter Rules

Hi! Caden's player here with a new character concept that I'm still working on.

I read that the cap for magical disciplines is four. I know there's a cap of 2 for starters.

How do "magical skills" factor in?

For example, I want to add dreamwalking as a skill, raise it to competent, since its in the same table as basketweaving I thought this was okay. Then I'd have my guy learn Attunement and Graft at the novice level, but then I lost myself in the nuances because dreamwalking is a "magical skill" and Attunement and Graft are "magical disciplines."

Is this allowed?

The idea of a magical practice skill is something that's an old concept, and not really a consideration for skills you can take at the start or any other point. Ensorcelling/alchemy/dreamwalking are treated like any other skills with respect to those magical discipline limits.

So you can take 2 magical disciplines to start, with a somewhat soft limit of 4 before things get funky with needed psf tickets and plots to unlock more in regular play.

So I’ll kick dreamwalking to novice, keep attunement where it’s at (novice), and nix graft for now? I don’t want to hit the soft limit anytime soon.

Does that work for a starting point, if I’ve got the education in the backstory?

No no, You can take Dreamwalking at Competent if you want, just like any other skill. It's just the magical disciplines like attunement, graft, glamour, becoming, etc. that are restricted in how many you can know from the start.
