Re: Stream of Fire

When they came back, they were both shocked to see the ring was done. They had gone out to eat and had shopped a little. “Time really flew,” Lumina said as she strode over to the ring and picked it up. She held it up to the light and continued, “only thing left to do is test it. Let’s go.”

Luvi was proud of everyone involved. They’d actually done it – they’d made an ensorcelled item!.

It was surprising how quick Lumina could move when she was in a hurry. By the time they made it outside of the city and to a safe, open space, Lumina was out of breath. “Here, you try first. All you have to do is concentrate on the ring to activate it.”

Luvi slipped the ring onto her left forefinger which fit perfectly. She held it out to the side, away from Lumina, then narrowed her brows. “Alright, I’m focusing… now wha…?”

The ring suddenly started to spew a small stream of flames out of a small indentation in the ring’s design that was supposed to be where a gem was normally supposed to be inlaid. It was the only oddly shaped part of the ring, so it made sense that it was where the ether would flow from. The stream itself wasn’t that large, only a yard long, but probably intense enough to set something flammable on fire. The fire kept going for a handful of seconds then slowly died out.

Success!

Re: Stream of Fire

Goku followed them eagerly, a sense of pride swelling within him. They had accomplished something remarkable. The three of them had managed to create an ensorcelled item, proof of their collaboration and hard work. He couldn’t wait to see it in action.

Goku watched in awe as the fire streamed out. The flames were intense, clearly capable of setting someone on fire.

“That’s incredible,” Goku said, his voice filled with admiration. “We actually did it.”

Goku’s mind raced with possibilities. He couldn’t wait to try his hand at creating something with his firestones. “I’ve got a few ideas for my firestones,” he said, his excitement palpable. “Maybe a bracelet or a pendant. We’ll have to try it out sometime. I might even have a go at making it.”

He let the women continue testing the ring, content to observe for now. His thoughts, however, were already drifting towards the next project. He had to bring up more details soon, but for now, he let them enjoy their moment of success.

Afte ra while, Goku couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. As Luvi and Lumina continued to marvel at the ring's performance, he stepped closer, his eyes fixed on the jewelry. "Hey, I’ve got a question," he said, breaking the momentary silence. "Is this ring something that anyone can use, or is it only usable by the person who made it?"

He looked between Luvi and Lumina, genuinely intrigued. The idea of creating an item with such specific and powerful abilities was fascinating. If anyone could use it, the potential applications were endless. He waited, eager to hear their thoughts on the matter.

Notes/Warnings:

We ended the thread here because we wanted to see if we did everything right and if the ring was functional before continuing the story. A second part is planned but we won't start it until this is graded.

This is the item we tried to make. We are unsure of the quality. Goku has Competent jewelry crafting but only novice smithing. We didn't intend to make a strong item. This was kind of a test drive of the system

Flame spew ring:
Can shoot a stream of flames a meter long for about ten seconds. Usable twice a minute.

Loot

  • Flame-Spew Ring: A silver ring that spews a small stream of flame, that will do superficial damage, but is probably strong enough to light dry kindling. It is useable twice a bit/minute.
Notes: Okay guys, let's get to the technical part first, so we can move onto the rest. I will say it's not at all your fault that the ensorcelling write-up isn't totally explicit when it comes to the creation of magical items. It's just the nature of the beast, when there're rough guidelines for well potency in ensorcelling per class, and when that has to be applied uniformly across a few dozen types of diferent wells, we're bound to come up with a range of weird inconsistencies and strangeness.

So I assume the flame-spew ring is intended for offensive use, therefore damage. It's fire so it makes sense. The damage listed for class 1 wells (whcih is the one I'm assuming you used of the firestone), is superficial. That means it won't really hurt a person seriously, may cause pain, but will likely only be enough to burn dry kindling in my opinion. It doesn't sound to me like a well effect that does superficial damage is going to produce a stream of a meter or so long, lasting ten seconds (let alone a stream of flame a few hundred yards long, as listed in the well potency chart, yikes!). So the stream described originally in the notes... that's going to hurt, for sure. So I toned down the results to what I thought was reasonable for the listed damage. What you have here, is a fancy and nice little lighter, for campfires. As ever, if in doubt and if you disagree with this ruling, feel free to psf it. Usually if you want a guarantee of the effect before going through with the invention, you can do so on the psf. There's no harm in it when there's confusion.

Otherwise, the processes and crafting effort that went into this thread was very good, and you both played to your skills well. I like the detail that went into the smithing part particularly well, and Goku you seem to be getting a really fun knack for writing smithing threads. Hopefully the character keeps at it.

Illuvia, your description of refining the well was a bit... on the short side. That's okay really, for a class 1 well. Those are relatively minor afterall, but do be mindful that we'd want more detail and descriptive action when it comes to the more dangerous wells.

It was good writing here, though. Thanks for the read! Enjoy the fancy lighter ring.
