Re: Over-Under the Brawling Tree

Vivian gave Faith a worried look when her friend explained her memory issues, then nodded at Genna's explanation. "I think the tree had something to do with it. It's your tree, after all." she said, her tone gentle. She looked over at Genna as they helped get Faith up and onto the snake. "I'll travel the lightning and lead the way." she said, her tone calm. "Once we get to my place, we'll see what we can figure out, Faith." she said, before patting her friend on the shoulder. "Odd as tonight may be, it is good to have you back." she said, grinning as she stepped away from Shal and gathered lightning under her feet and lept into the air. The trip from the arena to her house was short, but she didn't think Genna had ever been there and Faith wouldn't remember the way, so she took the lead.

Once they were there, she led them inside and made sure that her overly excitable rottweiler didn't immediately bowl Faith over. "Down, Pakse. I know you're excited, but she's got in." she said, rubbing the dogs head. Once the others were inside, Vivian motioned to her dog. "This is Pakse. She's friendly, but she still thinks she's a lap dog." she said, before gesturing at the large, sabertoothed, horned cat that was sat in the middle of the living room examining them. "And that's Raio. He's trained so that he's not aggressive and he does like pets, just don't get into a staring contest with him. He takes it as a challenge. He won't bother you otherwise, though." she said, walking over to scratch the cat behind the ears.

If Faith said she was hungry, Vivian went to get some food for her. She wasn't the best cook, but a few basic sandwiches didn't take any real skill at all to make. Once that was done, Vivian looked at Genna. "I keep a few spare changes of clothes in various sizes. Mostly in case I wind up housing one of the knights. Hasn't happened yet, but I should have something in her size. I'll go and find her some clothes, if you wanna look her over and make sure she doesn't have any other injuries we don't know about." she said, before heading into the guest room. It didn't take her long before she had a simple set of clothes for Faith, plus a pair of pajamas. When she came back out, she set them down next to Faith. "Also, I've got two spare rooms. Faith can take one, and you can use the other if you want, Genna." she said, before she pulled a chair over and sat across from Faith. "All right. Can you tell us what you do remember? If anything?" she asked, her tone gentle.

The In-Between

As Vivian sought to reassure her, Faith smiled slightly. "It's good to see you, too, Viv. It's... you're my friend." She knew that and right now it was all she could know. It was enough, for right in this moment.

This moment? It was probably the only time in her life that a large snake which seemed to be a mount was as unusual and new to her as a dressing gown had been. She went where she was told, and so sitting on the large serpent, she listened to Genna. She'd been reborn? "I was dead?" That caused a frown as she thought about it. "How long for?" That made sense, in fairness. Her mind worked as she glanced around. "It's so bright and noisy here," she said. She knew that it was night and quiet - but it was still bright and noisy.

Genna explained what they understood and Faith listened and nodded. "I know you are my friends," she said softly. "I can feel it in my heart. I love and trust you both." Sitting on the most unusual mount, she was quiet as they travelled. When Genna touched her forehead, Faith didn't blink or pull back, it just happened and she didn't argue. But she was thinking about it, considering it.

They arrived and Genna asked if she was hungry. Faith wasn't sure, she couldn't feel anything different and so she came to the conclusion. "I don't believe so," she said, thoughtfully. But then, her stomach growled and Faith smiled. "Or maybe yes. Yes, please," Vivian got some sandwiches, and she spoke a soft almost-whispered "Thank you," as Viv and Genna spoke about how to organise things and rooms and clothes. But then, Viv asked her what she remembered and Faith put down the sandwich and thought about it.

"I was somewhere else," she said, aware that probably wasn't helpful. "Everything here feels sharp and loud and bright, compared to there. But I don't remember there." Her silver eyes regarded the two of them with serious gaze. "You said it was my tree. Am I a gardner?" That seemed to make sense. Maybe she owned an orchard. But then, she did remember something. "There was a voice," she said, more firmly. "I heard a poem. A verse."

Thinking about it, she closed her eyes and spoke the words.

When the Dragon wakes and the Healing Hands grow cold,
And when the Queen of Masks rests in her Grave,
Past and Future will unite,
So that the Order will open its hands
And let the Pride of the Peacemaker fly again.
And the addled King will rise,
Divested of all the horrors he was accused of.
And where Lightning Strikes and Thunder roars,
A Door will close, but another one will open,
And what was broken will be Reforged.

Looking at the two women who she knew were her friends, but who she knew not at all, her gaze was hopeful. "Does that help anything at all?"

Faith showed her trust in them as she followed their instructions with out any questioning. That was the Faith she remembered. Trusting to those who she trusted, but Genna was aware that if anyone else had showed up she would have put some barriers. The small woman put together the comment and realized that she had been dead. Genna did a quick calculation and answered Faith’s question. “Almost and arc.” She answered back. Faith mention that the everything was bright and noisy. Again Genna thinks and nods her head. “Lets get you some place quieter and these bright. I suspect that your eyes and ears are like a babies, new and sensitive.”

“I am glad to hear that a part of you still recognizes your friends.” She said smiling. “You have been missed by those who love you.”

Once they arrived at Vivians house there were many discussion about food and fitting cloths. Genna took a moment to looked Faith over. “I am going to give you a check up. I suspect that everything will be okay, but its what I do.” Genna looked over Faith with her eyes and normal healer methods, but she also employed her Healer’s Sight. What stood out with both methods was how new everything was. The normal wear and tear were gone. Things were different from what a normal adult would look like and Genna would have to look at it more, but there wasn’t anything she couldn’t easily contribute to a new body, and loss of memories.

“Other then you having a brand new body, I can’t detect anything being out of place.” She said when Vivian came in with food and other supplies. "Thank youI will stay here for a tonight and then play it by ear." She said in response to Vivian offer. The commander, gentle got right to the point as she asked Faith what she remembered or knew. Faith seemed eager to answer, she seemed eager to answer. This was the curious side of the woman that Genna remembered. She smiled as she took a seat. Genna thought to Nayeli so she could pass the message on to Vivian through her Fins. ‘Lets not overwhelm her with everything about who she was all at once. Based upon her comments about light and sound sensitivity she has a lot to get used to physically as well.’

Faith instantly asked a question about who she was while answering theirs. “You did do gardening yes and so yes in that context yes, but that tree was brought about thanks to you.” Genna paused as Faith shared the poem with them. The young woman’s eyes grew thoughtful. “Lets make sure we get that written down. It is important though I am not sure how.”

Genna smiled at Faith as she asked if that helped any. “Unfortunately at this moment it is a clue but we are still going to try and figure this out. It is okay if we don’t get all the answers tonight. We are both here to help you. It make take a while for things to come to you, though in truth the information may just not be there, but you need to be patient and we will see what we can figure out.”

She looked at her friends. “We need to first get your body used to performing its normal functions.” Genna suspected that they would need to go through the same steps parents did with a toddler as they taught them to reconize signals from the body, but Genna would say at an exclarated speed since once it was pointed out Faith clearly reconnected the concepts. “Since I know how curious you can be. We really have two ways we can help you recover moving forward. We can just tell you everything about your old life, though we will do that slowly to keep from overwhelming you, or we can let you discover yourself by deciding what you want to know about. We will answer your questions. It would be again be at a pace you can handle and we feel won't overwhelm you.” She said looking at the two women and smiled.

Re: Over-Under the Brawling Tree

Vivian smiled when Faith said they were friends. "Aye, I am. And you're my friend." she said, before they turned to the matter of getting Faith to her house where she could rest safely. Vivian gave an amused smile as Faith wobbled a bit on whether or not she was hungry, then went and made food and got her some clothes. Then it was time for questions and, perhaps, answers. Faith told them what she remembered, which wasn't really all that much. Vivian frowned slightly as she pondered the poem that Faith remembered. As she did so, she responded to Genna's comment about not telling Faith who she was through Fins. "I worry we shouldn't tell her much at all right now. Most of what she was would put her right in the crosshairs if she went places that used to be associated with her and tried to wake up memories. The only exception I can think of is her family, and even that should probably wait until she's rested the night." she said, her tone calm.

When Faith asked if the poem helped, Vivian smiled slightly. "It might, but there's things I'd need to check and that won't happen tonight." she said, before looking at Genna as she laid out the ways in which the two could help Faith recover her memories. "As Genna said, we'll help you however we can. However, don't feel pressured to decide on either path right now. There's been a lot today, and in a very literal sense, it's been your first day. Take your time to rest and get used to things. You can stay here as long as you want, and it's fairly quiet here." she said, before giving a slight chuckle. "Despite what some of my friends think, I don't actually work all the time and I don't bring my work home with me. Not a healthy mindset to always be on duty, especially with a job like mine." she said, that more for Genna than for Faith, who wouldn't likely remember Vivian's exaggerated reputation as a workaholic.

"For now thought, it might be best if we all got some rest. I can't imagine that coming out of a tree is all that energizing, much less getting pecked awake by some sort of irate crow." she said, her tone rather dry. "Plus, I'll admit that I had a long day today and given your line of work, Genna, I would be willing to bet that you put in a lot of work today as well." she said, her voice calm. As they spoke, Pakse had come over and set her big fuzzy head on the couch next to Faith, almost as if the dog could tell something had some of the group off-balance and had come over to see if she could help. It did seem to be calming Vivian a bit at least, as she had started scratching the dogs back as she spoke. She did smile at Faith when she realized Faith wouldn't recognize Pakse in any meaningful way. "Don't worry, she's safe to pet if you want. She like scratches between the ears." she said, her tone gentle.

The In-Between

She had, it seemed, been dead - and not for a half-mark of the candle, but for near on an arc. It was a lot to take in, that particular piece of information and Faith let it sink in.

They arrived, she got fed and there were words. Lots of words. Some part of her understood that words were important to her, but in this moment Faith could not think sufficiently to really deal with it. She was far too busy feeling to be doing anything else. She was confused, slightly afraid and trying to work out what the next step should be. It was important that she understood who she was, she knew, but it meant more than that. There were people who loved her. Gennadiya had said that - there were people who loved her. Genna gave her a medical once over and said that she had a brand new body.

Faith frowned, thinking about that. "Where's my old one?" She wondered that because that was important. "What happened when I ... when I died? Did you bury me?" It was important, she knew it at a fundamental level, but not why. "Bodies are important," she said, nodding slightly.

She had options, Genna said. Tell her all of it, or let her ask. She thought about it quietly for a moment and then Vivian's words gave her the nod to do and say what she was already thinking.

"Can I sleep on it?" Faith asked with a grateful smile to them both. She wasn't sure what was better. "I feel like sleeping on it might help me to sort it out. There's a lot of noise." In her brain, in her thoughts and her heart, there was a lot of noise right now. Vivian said she could sleep there and stay as long as she wanted and Faith nodded. "Thank you, Vivian," she said softly. "Thank you both. I appreciate you, very much."

She nibbled at her food and felt a strange sensation. Her eyes were itchy, but blinking didn't help. The lids were droopy and she felt heavy. Thinking about it, focusing on it, she realised that she was tired. Tired in her bones. "I think some sleep would be good," she agreed. However, just before she took herself to bed - or more precisely just before she went where she was told to - Faith thought of something and spoke it. "You said there are people who love me," she said to Genna. "It sounded like it's not just the two of you. Will you let them know? Not ..." she tried to think about it and explained the best she could. "Not anyone difficult. But people who love me or who might go to sleep missing me or still think about me an arc later. Will you let them know, please?"

The very last thing she wanted to do was to let anyone suffer. It just wasn't her way. She didn't know what her way was, Faith considered, but she knew it wasn't that.

"Everything else, though," she said with a smile. "I think everything else can wait until tomorrow."

Feedback

I really love how you portrayed Faith, from everything from her thought process to the way you had her speaking. All of it landed as impactful and believable as you'd want in such a plot as this.

I do wonder how she will cope with her new life and if she'll uncover the mystery of the prophecy and it s origins. Or her secret savior.

Great job!

Gennadiya Lyosha

Feedback

Gennadiya is very much how she always is here, but turned up to 11, because it's Faith her once mentor and now peer and friend. She's got her head in the right place regardless, always when it comes to caring for her as a patient.

Good job! I love Gennadiya here really.

Vivian Shiryu

Feedback

VIvian also serves the role you'd expect, of being a guardian and protector of Faith in her moment of Vulnerability. She dealt with the situation appropriately and as well as can be. Although obviously she can't keep a lid on Faith's return forever, so it becomes public knowledge that she's back quite soon.

Good jojb though! Wonderful writing.
