Jasper lay next to Astra as she slept a bit fitfully. They had started cuddled with her resting on Jasper’s chest but as the evening had warn on she had tossed and turned and was now cuddled next to him. Jasper himself had slipped into sleep shortly after Astra had, but was now wide awake. Based upon the activity around him Jasper would say that it was approaching midnight, or maybe a bit past it. He lay there with one arm across his chest while the other was at his side pinned into place by his wife’s warm body.
Jasper was still tired, but something had awaken him. He continued to breath as if was asleep but allowed his breathing to continue as if he was asleep. He allowed himself to slip into a meditative state to clear his head and try and pin what it was that was drawing his attention. As he slipped into a meditative state he realized what it was that had drawn his attention. The snow anoks were beginning to slip back into the beneath. Jasper couldn’t see them in the beneath, but he could feel them beginning to slip away. Jasper pulled his focus back and opened his eyes. Moving slowly he rolled off of his bed mat and stood up.
He moved slowly so as not to wake Astra, but he slipped on his boots and then grabbed his cloak. He slowly made his way towards the front. He held the cloak over his arm to keep it from sweeping over things and people. He moved quietly past his brothers. Rewan lay there his mouth open as he half snored. Jasper smirked but kept a laugh down. People were some times amusing to watch as they slept.
Eventually he found himself on one of the paths and slipped his cloak on and walked out of the shelter. He found himself on one of the paths that had been constructed to between shelters. Jasper followed one of the paths until he was in a quiet spot. Even this late it wasn’t always quiet as their were people who watched at night to make sure all was safe, and that the fires burned. Jasper walked to the edge of cover walk, and extended a hand so that he was catching a few snowflakes. He closed his eyes again, and slipped into a meditative state.
Yes, the snow Anoks were departing, and departing almost as quickly as they had come. Jasper breathed a sigh of relief, that meant the snow would be stopping soon, Even with that there was still much that they would have to focus on. They would still have the rest of cylus, and who knew how long the cold snap would last. Jasper continued to stand their focusing. When communining with the spirits he sometimes just like to stay in that state and be one with the spirit world, or at least as much as was possible. It was actually why when alone he moved like to move with the spirits he wanted to commune with. As he focused on the snow Anoks, they were departing happily. They had covered the island in snow. Jasper read them almost as being tired but pleased, the way he felt at home when the harvest had been brought it. To others that might seem cruel of the Anoks, but Jasper understood cruelty had nothing to do with it, they were Snow Anoks and bringing snow was literally their whole existence.
Jasper lowered his had and prepared to pull himself out of the meditation he felt Eldloga. While the hearth spirit was with Jasper during this crises Jasper could feel his attention being spread across different focuses. The Aesir was okay with that. While a companion Eldloga was in the world to do his thing as well. Jasper stood with one arm at his side while the other touch the aspergillum.
‘Oh good, you are paying attention.’ Eldloga said. Jasper felt his lips turn up in amusement. There was something in the way Eldloga spoke that reminded the young man of someone rushing forward with exciting news. He focused on the dirri. ‘So I have spent a good amount of time um, I believe you mortals call it, studying under Sweetwine.’ Jasper nodded his head. He occasionally wondered what others thought as he had conversations with spirits to most people it would be one sided and look like he was talking to no one. Jasper didn’t care.
‘Well Sweetwine has shown and told me much. One of the important things he has told me about is Scalvflame.’ There was a pause on the part of the spirit. ‘I am not exactly sure where it is, but through it I have tried to talk with the other Induks here on Scalvoris.’ There was another pause. ‘Unfortunately they weren’t exactly persuaded by me to help with an idea Sweetwine and I are working on.’
Jasper could tell Eldloga was excited, he was talking fast for him. The Aesir broke into the conversation at this point. ‘What idea?’ He could feel his hair curling in curiosity as he spoke. There was a long pause.
‘Oh I didn’t tell you. Hmmm. So Sweetwing has tasked me with establishing the Scalvhearth so that the benefits can be spread across the whole island. I need something from each Induks, a precious sample of their domains. It needs to be committed to the hearth and the Induks invoked.” There was a pause as if what he had just said explained everything. Jasper paused wondering how best to approach this. Eldloga seemed to sense something of his hesitation. ‘You don’t have to do this, but it would be a great boon.’
Jasper did detect a number of things. It would be a boon to the island, but it would also be a boon to Eldloga as well. He slowly nodded his head and the thought to the spirit. ‘Just me or can I have help?’
‘Any of the Song Forged can help and participate with this.’ Eldloga said. ‘But we only have for as long as the agreement exists with Sweetwine to complete this.’
Jasper nodded his head in understanding. ‘I have no problem with working to achieve this. There might be travel limitations as this time, and I would want to talk with other song forged to get help.’ Jasper thought back to the dirri. He sensed the dirris confirmation of what he had said and there was silent for a few moments as they finished. Jasper pondered about what had been said and asked. There was very little way of a full explanation, which was alright. He understood that the effects would spread across the island, and he even understood the reluctance of the other Induks to commit. Eldloga was a new Dirri to the region and they were still proving his value. Jasper understood it, but he suspected that Induks didn’t exactly understand all of the subtleties involved. He also wondered what these precious symbols of each Induks would be. He assumed that meant they would have to either find someone at the location to get such items for them, or that they would have to go themselves and pick them up. He hadn’t been to two of the place, and even in the case of Faldress he hadn’t actually been to the volcano. Well he would certainly talk with Vega about it.
Jasper suddenly yawned and realized that he was very tired. He opened his eyes and slowly made his way back to the communal tent. He stopped at the entrance and shook out his cloak, and then slowly made his way back to his spot. He carefully moved among past his brothers, and came to stand by his own cot, he slipped his boots off and slowly lowered himself down to on to the blankets and pads that made up his and Astra’s bed. As soon as he settled down Astra pulled her self close to him and kissed him.
“Everything okay?” She asked, and Jasper detected a tone in her voice.
“Yes, the snow is beginning to stop.” Jasper said as he kissed her back. Yeah there was an attitude in those kisses, a longing.
“Good.” Astra said. “It needed to do that a while ago.”
“Eldloga also asked me to take on a new task.” Jasper said, and paused to see if Astra wanted to hear more about it. She kissed him again. It was a long kiss that Jasper returned and just enjoyed.
“Tell me about it tomorrow.” Astra said and the two fell silent as they kissed.
