Back Again With Another Yludih Question

So I was looking at the Tunawa as a potentially fun race to be "born as" for my Yludih character and came across how the Tunawa react to magic. Would a Yludih mimicking a Tunawa react the same way while in Tunawa form? If not I would imagine it would be relatively easy to discover that they aren't a true Tunawa. Also if a Tunawa can't be used as a totem for a becomer are they even a valid target for mimicry for Yludih at all? For general reference here is a link to both the Tunawa and Yludih.

Re: Back Again With Another Yludih Question

Hello,

Let's get right into it, shall we?

So, the thing to keep in mind with Yludih is that they mimic appearances. Not physiology, nor racial abilities. In much the same way a Yludih mimicking an Avriel wouldn't be able to fly or see the air currents, or a Yludih mimicking a Mer wouldn't have access to the Mer telepathy, I don't believe a Yludih-Tunawa would react to magic like a Tunawa would. Nor would they be able to produce antidotes for toxins and the like.

Now, for appearance, I think it is 100% possible to mimic a Tunawa. However, Yludih are a race with a size within the same range as humans. Some might be smaller than the 'standard height range', some might be taller. But I doubt there's Yludih small enough to successfully mimic a Tunawa. Sure, they probably can look like one without issue, but the size will be a problem. It'll have to be an extraordinary large Tunawa for sure. Of course, the same goes for races that are too big. A Yludih can definitely look like one, but they can't produce extra mass to add to their own height and bulk. They can't shed it either.

Lastly, take this with a grain of salt. My knowledge of the Yludih might be outdated. Yludih have gone through some rewrites since I last played one. I think Pegasus spearheaded these, so it might be a good idea to get a second opinion from her if neccesary.

Anyway, hope that clears things up.

Re: Back Again With Another Yludih Question

From the aforementioned Yludih Fast Facts drafted by Pegasus and Munchkin.
The illusion extends to any physical traits that race has. So, a Yludih wearing a Mer illusion could breathe underwater. They need to transform in the way other Mer do. Avriel have wings. However, they do not suddenly develop telepathy, nor do they have a sudden, innate flight skill. Physical traits only.
Tunawa magic resistance is not a physical trait. It's a soul-level ability unique to Tunawa. It cannot be emulated by Becoming, let alone an Yludih illusion. Should one find a way to appropriate the Tunawa form by becoming magic for instance (Which IS possible albeit with similar difficulties to other races that aren't natively suited to Becoming magic: Naerikk, Yludih, and Tunawa) they would likely not be able to emulate the magic resistance or even possess it in the full tunawa form. Same way that the Yludih illusion probably couldn't be co-opted by Becoming magic. But I'm getting off track, aren't I?

Also, I don't feel it would expose them as Yludih, whether they're able to take a form that small or not. Magic and mages are rare enough (in terms of lore, player characters being the exception) that most Tunawa won't encounter it.
