A consequence from Florence.
Zi’da 5, Arc 721
On the 5th of Zi‘da, Devin Thorn, High Priest of Delroth and Baron von Smooglenuff (well, one of three Barons) was standing in the ballroom of Smooglenuff Manor in the center of a mat, dressed in a pure white suit with a bit of glitter on it, because white was all the rage that season. He was standing there on his head, because always standing on your feet was boring in his opinion and because he loved acrobatics, and he was surrounded by a couple of employees, because he’d decided to hold another sword training session. If they wanted to be able to defend themselves, they needed to practice on a regular basis!
“Bastard swords”, he told his audience, some of whom were listening to him attentively and some of whom were just a little too focused on the Baron doing a headstand. “Are not bastards, at least if you assume ‘bastard’ to be a derogatory term which it really shouldn’t be in my opinion because there’s nothing wrong with that. They are actually pretty useful weapons that allow you to strike with quite a bit of force. Before we continue with our usual lesson with one-handed swords, I’d like to tell you a bit about the advantages of two-handed swords, because it’s a good idea to be aware of the existence of different kinds of weapons in my opinion”, he continued, still standing on his head and smiling ever so brightly.
He was speaking a little more slowly than he usually did because talking while being upside down – and making sure that you stayed upside down – required quite a bit of discipline and endurance and such – and before long, he gently lowered his feet to the floor and stood with his head facing upwards again. Standing on your feet was boring, but talking was so much easier that way, and he absolutely loved talking and hearing his own voice!
“Can someone get Florence for me, please?” he asked them. Florence was his training dummy that he needed in order to demonstrate his various moves. “I can’t wait to see what she’s wearing this time”, he continued and smiled at the group of ten or so employees that were gathered in a half-circle around him (Miranda, the head maid, had graciously allowed them to practice in the ballroom because it was a bit too cold to practice outside now.). Over the course of the last couple of trials, the employees had begun to dress the training dummy up in all kinds of outfits which was something that he absolutely loved.
“I’ll get her”, a young human woman with two brown pigtails, one of Marvin’s assistants, offered and quickly hurried out of the door while her colleagues turned to face Devin again. They seemed to be waiting for something, so, he suggested that they could stretch a bit and such in the meantime because warming up before a fight was important, in a very enthusiastic tone of voice because he wanted them to have just as much fun as he had (Devin had already warmed up before, of course.).
