Re: Ruin's Dawn: Light Gluttony

Ruins Dawn

"Did this start out as a date?" Faith asked, apparently quizzically. "It's gone to the Beneath so quickly that it feels like it must have." They had never once managed an actual date where nothing had gone wrong; from pirates to teleporting madmen to the ground literally falling away beneath them, every date had spelled disaster. She smiled at him, a brief and tense smile as they made their way out of there. She felt Padraig's arms first support her and then lift her and she gave thanks to Famula for just how much this man loved her. How much he supported and understood her.

They made their way out of there, the four of them. Her, Padraig, the king and the baby.

And then, there was Stone Talon and the Moseke marked and Stone Talon spoke. Faith slowly and calmly got down, sliding out of Padraig's arms and she stood - albeit it was a difficult thing to do - and she glared at Stone Talon. "Have you learned nothing? Nothing?" She stepped forward and as she spoke to him the tiny woman poked him in the chest. "You. Will. Not." She said, in answer to his words. "No more violence! No more retribution or demands of blood. You have to start a new trial here, and now."

When the Sevrath priest offered some of her healing, Faith nodded. "I would appreciate that, thank you," she said, although she didn't mention that she'd been answering her own questions for a while now and didn't need Padraig - or anyone - to do it for her. She looked at the three of them, then. Stone Talon, the King, the blessed of Moseke.

"It starts here," she said, firmly, "And it starts with you. You have to stand against what was, please, Stone Talon, do NOT leave." She called to him as he turned. "Now is the chance to put it right, to make the change. Please. Please prove to every person out there - and in here - that there is hope for Quacia. That change can happen. Please."

And then, whether he did or not, she looked at the Priestess, at the King, at Padraig and, indeed, at Stone Talon if he was there. "We need to calm the crowd and unite them, now. They're just being freed from slavery," she said and she looked at her husband. "They need to know where they can run to and where they'll be safe. They need to know that there are people who will help them. As you were to me."

Whether it was just her and Padraig, whether it was all of them including Stone Talon, or whether it was her alone, that was what Faith would do. She could usually deal with large groups and, so, that was what she did. "We need to get people together, to unite, to work together," she insisted. To the Sevrath - and Stone Talon if he was there - she was clear. "The king needs to unite the people, with you as his council. Not the Theocratum, not the Wounded God. No more sacrifice, no more death and blood. This place needs to become what it could and should be and you need to make that happen." She looked at them and smiled slightly. "We can help. Let's get planning." She glanced at Padraig and gave a tired smile. "If there's one thing I'm good at, it's logistics and planning. We can do this," she said and would, immediately, get to work.

And the first job was to unite the people. No more souls to blame, now, but hope for the future. It had to be done.

Re: Ruin's Dawn: Light Gluttony

Immortals, how he hated this place. After all that had happened, and a string of events and experiences that ran the gamut from curious, from frustrating and maddening to deadly dangerous then downright stomach churning, it was the one single conclusion that he could all too easily arrive at no matter from which direction he approached it. Padraig hated this place and would be happy to see the end of it for good.

If only they could find their way out, without colliding headlong with a dragon's lair, and not the kind of dragon he wanted to sit down to tea with. And thanks to Faith, who he carried in his arms along with the infant, they were accompanied further by an apparent king brought back from the brink of death. Maybe the man had been traumatized beyond comprehension, and maybe he was in shock after having been brought back in spite of it. But was Padraig the only one that thought it a little bit strange that the man didn't seem overly distraught at the idea of having just lost his wife to an exceptionally grizzly end?

But there'd be times to wonder about that later. In the meantime, it was a long time getting back where they'd started again, and when it was needed, he'd carry Faith and the newborn child, and merely step lightly around the snarling little dragonets scampering this way and that. Then finally, they seemed to be getting somewhere, and there was Stone Talon and the priestess wringing her hands. Carefully, Padraig put Faith on her feet again.

The king, who looked very much the worse for wear, stepped between Faith and himself, and the agitated pair, though if words came to blows he really wasn't sure how much good the man's noble gesture would make in the end. Padraig was prepared to do what he must, just in case. Faith stepped in, and if there was any chance of things not coming to blows, he'd seen it himself many times before now. She knew exactly what she was doing.

But of course what she was proposing couldn't help but bring a marked frown to Padraig's face, when the only thing he really wanted at this moment was to get her out and away from it safely. But if it was logistics and planning that was needed, no one was better at that than Faith, and Padraig was loathe to think he'd have been able to keep her from it, had he bothered to try. So, it appeared they'd be helping, or at least he'd be following Faith's lead in that regard.

Stone Talon halted in his steps, but didn't look around. He merely huffed in his distaste for all that had occurred. King Estavo Arkenstone looked shattered, all told, but it was hard to see beyond his mutilated visage to the wounded soul beneath. Yet Faith would see that he did grieve for his wife. The baby girl that Faith held in her arms, he accepted from her, if she'd allow it. It served the dual purpose of making sure the baby was carried by one who was at least marginally physically capable, and for relieving Faith of the burden.

The Sevrath Priestess healed Faith of her recent infirmities incurred from purging the graft spark. Her vision, which had been blurring, and her hearing, which had swiftly been fading in the moments afterward, returned full force with her touch. Then, after all was decided, and Padraig had affirmed to her that he would help, they all, with the Priestess and Padraig supporting Faith as they walked, made their way above the Nave. Stone Talon fell in beside them, still furrowing his ridged brow in anger at Arkenstone, as the man limped up the stairs from the Undercroft.

There, they would find a great many people above in the Cathedral. People, from the Dragoon commanders, to the Councilors of the Guilds of Quacia, to members of the Royal Court, and the Ithecal that had taken over the Plenty. They all waited to hear what had happened, what was happening, and what they would do now.

Faith spoke before them, telling them what needed to be done, what had been done, and how they all needed to rise to the challenge.

After she was done giving her speech, the ash fell away from the flesh of the Sevrath Priestess. In its place, a gown, stone-gray and chased with ivy-like stitching. There could be no mistake who it was. Moseke strode forward, to address the crowd herself. "I am the Stone Maiden, Moseke. For an arc or more, I've left my home city of Desnind to the care of my more than capable people. They have risen to the occasion as best they can, but for the past arcs, this ailing city has been my focus."

"I have tried to protect you as much as I could from the worst of the Quod Disserpum, what you know as the Creep. I have cast out that abomination to nature, and never again shall it trouble the Southern Continent."
Moseke took a breath, and then turned to smile at Faith, Padraig, and then Stone Talon and King Arkenstone. "In the ashes of the Creep, will grow a verdant rain forest, so it should be, that the people of Quacia shall not fear nature, so long as we are neighbors."

Famula and Vri also appeared behind the podium, taking up place beside Faith and Padraig. Famula would make her intentions known to Padraig through their unique bond as mother and son, and she gently asked permission to use his domain over Barriers, in order to accomplish what they now needed to do, for the good of Quacia. With his permissionConfirmed with the player through PM she would join hands with Moseke and Vri, and begin the work of sealing away Deabrutoa.

"You have been deceived, people of Quacia, for centuries by a being older than the Immortals. In his slumber, he has reached out to enslave, to prompt you to human sacrifice, and bleeding your life's blood to the stones that serve as his tomb. That tomb shall be rebuilt anew, and we will ensure that his vile influence is kept at bay for a time."

So saying, as they joined hands, the blood-laden stones beneath Quacia began to coagulate in a way, forming a cement that sealed the stones together. Vri's domain of Death, Moseke's Domain of Life, and Famula's Domain of Servitude, antithesis to Deabrutoa's own dominion of Death, Bonds, and Slavery, were utilized along with Padraig's domain of Barriers, in order to force him beyond the deeps, and keep him pinned for a time. His Dragonlings and Dragonets may be able to escape and scurry out from time to time, but Deabrutoa was effectively imprisoned beneath Quacia, unable to communicate and enforce his Dominion over Quacia for a time.

This done, Moseke stopped holding hands with her fellow Immortals, and the earth shook one last time beneath Quacia, then fell dormant.

"It is done. Deabrutoa, the Wounded God, has been sealed away." She turned to Faith, Padraig, and King Arkenstone, "I do not know how long the seal will hold him back. A cycle? An arc? Dozens of Arcs? In any event, you need to prepare the people, and raise your daughter to be an example of transformation for Quacia..."

King Arkenstone was beside himself, between the revelation of Moseke, and her healing, her show of power against the Wounded God they'd pledged themselves to for generations beyond counting...

He held up his child for the crowd to see, and named her. "I name this child Hope, for the hope these mighty beings and mortals have given to Quacia. Today begins a new era, the Era of the Covenant of Stone."

Perhaps it was too much to ask that the Quacian people cease to stand on ceremony, yet Arkenstone's intentions seemed well enough.

In the end, Faith and Padraig would be helped in anyway they needed, in order to facilitate the changes to the law and power structure that Quacia would need not only to survive in the short-term, but thrive in the coming days. It would take a lot of diplomatic wrangling, and was far from done even as Faith and Padraig were granted leave to take a few refugees with them, whoever wished to accompany them home.

They sailed to Rharne with a few souls, and richer in the gifts given by the Guilds of Quacia, as well as those of the Immortals who'd entrusted them with the task of its salvation.

Notes: Poor Padraig felt very pulled along on this mission, but he still had plenty of opportunities which he took to help fulfill the quest they'd found themselves stumbling into. He was a great support character for the rest of the group, and I found him very much the glue keeping everyone sticking together, for what it's worth.

Of course, the conclusion wouldn't have been possible without him there, so he has that feather in his cap, keeping that Braggart sealed away for a time. Great writing and PCing, you!

  • Objective Met: Pressure Point!: In this thread Faith functioned well under pressure. Moseke makes Faith her Champion.
  • Objective Met: Puzzler!: In this thread Faith worked out puzzles and dealt with strange situations Custom Ability: Blood Bond (Moderate): This ability may only be used on one other person as it has the power to connect both the character and the individual to each other. When the blood bond is made, an oath is taken between two people, an oath of service and alliance. Only one such Bond can be active for Faith. After the bond is made, both characters are linked mentally, able to telepathically communicate over any distance. In addition, both blood bonded can exchange the wounds they've taken with the other's permission. The blood bond must be honored. Whomever breaks the sanctity of this Oath on their blood will be denied the benefit of it. Until reparations and forgiveness is granted for the breach in the oath, the one who breaks it will find their blood will no longer clot. In addition, whomever did not break the oath can choose to injure themselves and transfer that wound to the violator, if desired. Non fatal wounds are the only ones that can be exchanged without permission.
  • Objective Met: Bravery: In this thread Faith acted in a manner which was brave (or foolish!) Custom Ability: Broken Shackles (Moderate): No longer can even the most complex locks restrain Faith's personal movement. Even magical binding will slip around them and dispel. Faith can choose to be bound or not as they desire. At this level, however, that freedom extends to their area as well. If Faith would ever be imprisoned in a pit, a cell, or a room that restricts their environment...they will find there is always a way to escape. The bars will rust, allowing them to break free, the well walls will sprout handholds allowing them to climb out. Faith cannot be bound or sealed. While this blessing does not apply to grappling or the tangle of organic beings, any non-sentient environment limiting or person limiting restraint can be escaped.
  • Objective Met: Pacifist! In this thread Faith avoided unnecessary violence 1 former Theocratum acolyte, now converted to the faith of Moseke, Famula, and Vri, with 450 xp to spend in skills with no less than 10 xp in any skill and no more than 100 xp in any skill.
  • Objective Met: : Surprised The Mod! Congratulations, Faith surprised the mod. Famula grants Faith a new Champion custom ability - Graft removal. With this ability the Zuuda is able to pull the graft spark from a grafter. This applies only to a grafter who is unconscious or in a passive / trance state and may only be performed once per Cycle. The act of doing this involves testing Faith’s constitution and the Zuuda pays a heavy price in the event of success. As the graft spark is taken from the mage, all of the corruptions the grafter has affected themselves or others with come home to roost in Faith. She is afflicted with a temporary loss of one of her five senses for each level of the grafter, which must then be treated medically. It will take a base of ten trials to cure each loss, before her sense may return. Should Faith fail to cure these sense losses before the season’s end, she will permanently lose one of her senses while the rest return.
  • Objective Met: True Colours: PC was true to themselves throughout this thread. Great RP! Queen's Crown - A silver circlet belonging to the late Queen, on loan until the Princess, named Hope Arkenstone, comes of age in 739th arc. It grants an ability to sense mages on sight. She will know what domain they practice, but not the level of the mage in question.

Notes: Of all the PCs to have been sent to Quacia, it had to be Faith, the one to whom its nature is a unique anathema to the Immortals she serves ;)

Faith really amazed me in this event, and I couldn't have asked for a better and more satisfying resolution than the one that your PC's agency helped facilitate. I had a clear idea of what was going on, but your PC along with others, drove the action and made the story so much better than it would've otherwise been.

I hope you enjoy your rewards, and continue to enjoy Faith for the foreseeable future!

At this level, Jasper is also able to change the heat of the fire, increasing it's temperature to those often found in forges, and it's color to a bright yellow. To help with this problem, Stone Talon has gifted them with an ancestral heirloom of his, which is a net that is used for catching rats typically but also works well on the Lethe. When captured by the net, any dragonet inside of it will find it cannot escape. Moreover, it will be rendered helpless for a bit after being removed from the net. Allowing it to be slaughtered for food. They will find the Lethe, upon capturing with a Dragonet Net and rendered into meat for consumption, increase their physical capabilities by one full level (Athletics, Strength, Endurance, Resistance) for roughly a break after eating them. The Lethe infestation will last a full cycle after the Global, or until they write a story to rid themselves of the Lethe.

Skill Review: All Skills used appropriately to PC's level
Notes: Jasper was a good support through this, following after Varlum was an interesting choice, and the confrontation with the Diri of Turmoil was a very pivotal moment I felt for the Aesir Shaman. He even had a great moment toward the end, where he managed to use Eldloga to neutralize the Castaway Heart. I'm sorry you weren't able to finish, but RL happens so I understand. Hopefully you're able to return to enjoy the rewards sometime!

Notes: I thought you played Varlum really beautifully in this thread. I couldn't have asked for a more story-impactful moment than when Varlum confronted the Judge, and the Judge knew who Varlum was. His fight was well written by you, the dialogue was on point and not excessive during it, and overall just a great job writing him. I hope Varlum has some time to decompress after this event, before the next big threat.
