Goku's childhood was nothing out of the ordinary. His father was a member of a mercenary group and his mother was someone the father had saved at some point during his adventures. The only thing that ever really made Goku stand out was his wings and the strangeness of being a half breed avriel. He had an upbeat attitude and though he was different he managed to make friends while growing up. People came to know him as someone that you could chat with if you wanted to lift your spirits.
Goku always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps as soldier. His mother was killed by a criminal in his early teens which made Goku really want to help protect people from similar incidents. He went through a rough patch until his late teens when he finally started to get over the death of his mother and tried to start getting stronger. Goku's father had been a dream walker for decades but had never truly dedicated himself to emea until after his wife passed. He fell into depression and spent all his time dreaming of a world where his wife still lived and he could be happy again.
One day Goku confronted his father about why he was so detached from reality. The father decided to teach Goku how to dream walk so that they could both live together with their lost loved ones in their dreams. Goku was initiated into dream walking and got to see first hand what his father was talking about. Goku felt very strange by the process of being initiated. It was like he was finally being awakened to a fundamental truth of the universe that he had been blind to up until that very moment. Goku was escorted into the veil by his father who hyped the experience up, telling him that he was about to enter paradise. Goku believed him because his father was an idol of his. At first it truly was like living in paradise. Goku could live with all his friends and family and that he did. Real life became secondary to his time spent in emea for several months. The problem was that everything was too perfect. Goku began to come to terms with the fact that nothing he could do would ever bring his mother back or make life truly perfect. He shunned dream walking after that. He still lucid dreamed from time to time but he never engaged with family members if he encountered them in his dreams.
It wasn't until he turned twenty that he begun to seek out power. He was never satisfied with his physical capabilities so he sought to augment them with magic. Becoming and Hone interested him the most so he sought a magician that he could learn from and eventually learn their art. Goku was shocked to discover that it was not an easy process. He learned a lot about the risks of becoming a mage and served for five years under a magician until he built up enough of a repertoire to be a trustworthy initiate candidate. Hone was the only discipline that he actually took on. That consisted of having six runes put on his body by the mage and a seventh on his chest. The pain was unbearable, however by that point he had already accepted that he was risking life and death to gain the power of hone so he realized it wasn't a big deal on the grander scale. The memory of his initiation was pure pain. Indescribable pain of having his entire bodily structure touched by the spark as it melded with his soul. His soul put up a fight, rejecting the foreign entity at first. The battle of wills between the soul and spark raged before eventually coming to the compromise of coexistence. All of it hurt so much more than he could have ever imagined. The thought of doing another initiation drove Goku away from wanting to take on any more magic disciplines.
His dream is to become a renowned mercenary fighting for the forces of good. He has never displayed any desire for wealth but he does desire political influence. He has, however, never gotten the chance to really dabble in that field. He hopes to do that kind of stuff after he becomes a soldier.
