Aya stands 10 inches tall, with skin the color of red-brown mahogany and golden eyes. He and his partner Sonja lead a small group of ex-slave Tunawa, looking for a place they can call home. He was captured at age 10 and sold to a merchant who used enslaved tunawa to grow dyestuffs and weave linen and other plant-based cloths. The group of tunawa was freed when the ship transporting them passed through Rharne and the group has stuck together ever since.
Aya was always better at growing than making, and sports a head full of colourful plants. His relatively small size compared to Sonja caused to the merchant to nickname him "Tiercel" (from the falconry term for hawk species where the male is only two-thirds the size of the female). Aya vastly prefers his given name, but still also answers to the nickname from long habit. Slavery has left its mark on him, with a habit to obey rather than question, flinch rather than fight, and a burning desire to keep his freedom now that he has it again.

Sonja is relatively tall for a tunawa, at nineteen inches in height, with teal blue skin and matching eyes, though her fingers tend to be stained all the colours of the rainbow from the dyes she handles. She and her partner Aya lead a small group of ex-slave Tunawa, looking for a place they can call home. She was captured shortly after she left home at age 5 and sold to a merchant who used enslaved tunawa to grow dyestuffs and weave linen and other plant-based cloths. The group of tunawa was freed when the ship transporting them passed through Rharne and the group has stuck together ever since.
She likes to weave subtle nature-inspired patterns into her cloth, with made her prized by the merchant and allowed her to stick up for the other slaves more safely. Freedom, with its lack of obvious rules and limits, has left her cautious but stubborn. She has no desire to be enslaved again, but is still feeling her way towards what she actually wants from the rest of her life.
