As most of you know, Trouble did a fantastic job setting up the Settlement system - as it was set up, we knew that there would need to be a review / next step of it. Since Trouble has left staff, I've taken that and tried to remain true to Trouble's vision for the system. I've based this version 2 on conversations with settlement leaders and with Trouble.

So.

I'm putting the Settlement System v2 and the Advanced Settlement .

We're looking for volunteers to set up settlements / upgrade existing ones to test this system. The way that I plan on doing this is:


1. Get folks going on setting up new settlements etc, this cycle.
2. Try and give it as thorough a testing as we can.
3. At the beginning of next cycle, have a review of the system - and as long as we're all happy, move all settlements over to it.

Please note. When I say "move all settlements over to it" - I don't mean going back and grandfathering in for existing settlements. I'm afraid that's far too much of a logistical nightmare. Existing settlements will be what and where they are on the 1st of new cycle and we'll adopt the version 2, going forward.

Likewise - this is a beta test - therefore, it is subject to changing mid-way, to new rules popping up and to things being stopped / no longer applicable. I will do my level best to make sure that no one is disadvantaged if / when this happens - but bottom line is that we are testing it.

Therefore - I'd like volunteers (if we have 'em!) to sign up below. I'm going to oversee this as a mod, and will also be testing as a player so I get a good overview.

Location of Settlement: Sweetwine Woods, Scalvoris.
Theme of Settlement (a 1-line description, which we'll use in the thread description for your settlement location):
Sweetsong is a camp of like-minded people, working together to protect and nurture Sweetwine and Ol'Tuck.
How this settlement will be founded (ensure you identify a Founding Skill which relates to this).
Vega believes that there is a better way to live than to build houses of stone and wood. She believes that nature provides everything that you could possibly need in order to live, and live well. She is setting up a child-friendly settlement of tents where people who want to belong to a family - to a clan - can come and live and work together, in rhythm with Sweetwine and the Induk, Ol'Tuck.
Founding Skill: Leadership: GM

By living and working on the land, by gathering all that they need and maintaining and nurturing the ecosystem.

Vega aims to ensure that people live as comfortably and with as much luxury available to them as if they lived in houses. She believes that this is entirely achievable in a camp and it just needs people to think outside the box and truly understand the environment.

Focus Skill Fieldcraft: GM

Where the initial settlers will come from. People who have heard of what she's doing via her pontificating, via her cousins and family (lotso npcs) etc.

What resources will be needed for startup - and how you are going to afford them
Not lots, I don't think - Vega will use her capstone to set up camp, people will bring their own supplies, I guess? If there's a wp cost, she'll front it.

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch

Name of Settlement: Assustador (Vahanic for "Scary")
Location of Settlement: Quacia's Countryside.
Theme of Settlement: A creepy rural settlement run by a heavily mutated master mage, guarded by his 'pets'.
How this settlement will be founded: Press gang some down-trodden citizens and scare them into joining him in the Quacian countryside. (Competent Intimidation)
How this settlement will survive: Hunting for meat, food, and hides, and keeping the place safe by way of hunting with altered beasts. (Expert Hunting)
What the focus of this settlement is: Making monstrous beasts, twisted by graft and hone magics for fun and profit. (Master Animal Training)
Where the initial settlers will come from: Mostly peasants and serfs and ex-slaves from the Shanty.
What resources will be needed for startup: Building materials, animals, probably seeds, hunting equipment, animal training supplies, people/workers who know how to build.
Which startup option will you be taking? I'll be roleplaying it.
Will this Settlement exist inside or outside the law? Preferably inside the law. But I'm not opposed to starting out as anti-factional to start.

Name of Settlement:
Saorsa (Atvian word for Freedom, Redemption)

Location of Settlement:
Western Continent, Near the Heart of the World (most likely along the northern shore)

Theme of Settlement:
A home base for a group devoted to freeing slaves.

How this settlement will be founded:
Praetorum will lead a group of mercenaries, volunteers, and freed slaves to build themselves a home. (GM Leadership)

How this settlement will survive:
Hunting and Fishing (Competent Hunting)

What the focus of this settlement is:
Freeing slaves from Sirothelle through force (GM Tactics)

\Where the initial settlers will come from:
A mix of Skydas mercenaries and freed slaves

What resources will be needed for startup - and how you are going to afford them
Materials for buildings, arms and armor for combatants, possibly mining equipment—some of it has been pre-bought or made in Rharne, and just needs to be transported over. The rest, Prae can buy.

Which startup option will you be taking? Pay For Founding or RP Founding?

Will this Settlement exist inside or outside the law?
Outside of Sirothelle law, at the very least.

Just giving this a little bump for anyone interested! We have a few settlements now, and some of our legacy settlements are moving over to version 2.

If you'd like to start a settlement, contact your city mod :D
