PREVIOUSLY.....
In these last few trials something had been taken from her. No longer seeing in her life simple day to day chores and the humdrum sureness that came from everything being the same for the last few, short arcs of her life. It seemed like at any moment now everything was fit to break. As if one wrong move would be enough to undo everything Kalypso had done. Even now in her child’s mind the full scope of the consequences didn’t equate. In a lot of ways she hated this change in her and felt it consciously, knowing in her bones that nothing would be the same by the time this was finished. These thoughts took up her time as she waited for the signal from Weep to grab the shiv and break her out. It was almost dark and Weep had given a mushroom from her head to Kalypso to put in her mother’s drink. Weep had said,
“They put her out like a light, always do.”

With the deed done they waited, Kalypso unconsciously pacing the hallway between her room and the work room. That was when the duo heard laughter from Juniper’s room. Weep gave the signal and Kalypso rushed over to give her the makeshift lockpick. It was made from a painter’s nail, big enough for Weep to use and still jimmy the lock. They were out in a flash, headed to the Scholar’s Nook to steal a book. Kalypso had packed a bag with her own books in it, namely old tomes of fairytales, perhaps thinking to bargain her way out if she had to. Together Weep instructed Kalypso how to sneak through the shadows on the her heels to make the least noise possible, they slipped through alleyways together with Kalypso leading the way.
