Re: Gloom and Doomsayers

A thin line appeared as he listened closely to what the others had to say. He was not surprised when the Naer took the side of Audrae. The man allowed her to finish her questions and observations. The darkness that had nearly destroyed all the iyo came to his mind. It had been unsettling and unnatural then suddenly they had relit as if nothing but sleeping for days.

“I believe it is her because the iyo have been acting strange for several cycles now. Not just their normal molting that happens in Cylus. Does no one remember the darkness that gripped our city only two cycles ago? The Iyo had went out and stayed out for several days. Then suddenly as if awakening began to stir only to turn this dark red. She may not be directly responsible, but there are many that work for her and bear her mark that she could have used,” Gladysic stated.

He kept his voice as calm and even as possible while listening to the others. It seemed the crowd was torn between following him as he had intended and wanting the group before him to investigate. His mind whirled while thinking as much as he could as quickly as possible. It was true that their investigation could not hurt anything in his mind. It could even give him time to send more rumors among the citizens. Get as many on his side without making it obvious his plans. The council were already trying to calm their fears.

“Hm, perhaps I have indeed been too hasty. Alright I will give you all two days to find some proof that this is truly not Audrae at work. If you can convince me, then the Iyo larva will be spared. Should you be unable to produce proof it is not her. Then the attack on the larva will commence,” Gladysic said with a cool ease, “I cannot wait to see what it is that you find.”

The man excused himself and walked away from the crowd allowing it to dispense. Many of the women in the crowd would do his work for him. However there was still much to be done while they are busy going to find “evidence”.

Re: Gloom and Doomsayers

He turned and walked off. Something about this whole situation was off putting for the mangled Naer. She couldn't put her finger on it what about it made her so distrusting of the man. Moving the dislike she had for the man for insulting her immortal aside something jsut felt off. Something made her not trust him as far as his entrails could be dragged from his body while still remaining attached. She'd shadow him in more ways than one. Or she'd try to.

Not moving her eye from him she muttered to the rest, "We don't trust him. He gives us an odd feeling. Do what you all wish. We will find what we can on our own."

She stepped back and blended into the crowd moving carefully while keeping tabs on the man. Mayhaps she'd lost her ability to be the being of death and destruction her shadow form naturally afforded her but it would still give her a means of observing this man and his lackeys in the cover of night. And if she had to, eliminate some of them if it came to that. With luck it wouldn't and this fool and his followers would never know she was there.

She continued to make her way inside the fringe of the crowds as she kept her eye on the man. The others could do their work their way she would do hers her own.

li dug an elbow into her and she let out a slight 'oof' sound and glanced at him with a half-accusing glance. What was he nudging her for? Had she said something wrong? But one glance at Eli told her that he was resisting the urge to ask a hundred questions, so instead she simply dug her elbow back into his ribs and was content with that. Then, he agreed with her and she returned the hand-squeeze with a slight smile and an inevitable blush. He made a very clear point, and said it very well. Perdita was very pleased that he was able to do that, because he was so much more eloquent than her at it. The tunawa (she thought he was a tunawa, anyhow - either that or he was a talking twig) bamfed over to Eli and spoke to him and Perdita smiled in delight at him as the small man-made-of-wood spoke. He spoke a lot of sense to her, and Perdita nodded her head in encouragement.

He spoke then, the tunawa, about being able to investigate if they could catch one of the larvae. Perdita considered it and nodded. Holding one of the larvae in safety and examining it seemed to make sense to her and she had a few questions about it. "Are they all the same shade?" Perdita asked. She considered it carefully, because she knew that the Iyo came in different colours, and she wondered whether anyone had looked at the shade of the red Iyo to see whether the shade was different depending on the original colour.

To her, an artist, it made sense.

She listened to the 'argument' that the cultist made and Perdita frowned. They knew it was Audrae because other things had happened and, therefore, since they were bad things, they must be due to Audrae? That was the picture-perfect definition of a circular argument, Perdita considered. But she did not argue, because it wasn't her way to do so - it was very much her way to keep quiet and simply watch. Eli, of the two of them, was the talker, and Perdita was glad for that. It was probably why they got on so well, she thought. But then, the woman who had been - frankly - rather odd to begin with, started referring to herself in the third person plural and Perdita considered that whatever had hurt the woman and caused her to be so damaged must have done more damage than that, and Perdita felt a rush of sympathy for her. But equally, if the woman didn't want to work in a team, then she didn't. Her choice.

Making that choice, the woman said that she'd go on her own, and they should do what they wished, so she took her at her word and simply turned back to where Eli and the small tunawa were standing. She held tightly on to Eli's hand and spoke, although her cheeks flamed red as she did so, the blush deeper since they were effectively in public - and she didn't manage to make eye contact, but she looked in the general direction of them.

"We should observe Iyo," she said, thoughtfully. "Maybe ten. In bright light. Consistent." She glanced at Eli for that - he was the person she knew who could create things, ensure things were done. She wanted to know if the Iyo had shades of colour between them, or if the shade they were changed over time. Also, she considered and glanced at Eli. "I'll go to the library," she said. There, she'd find books on the Iyo, which she was sure would be there. "You two get the Iyo?" That made sense to her and it would mean that they could get on with the investigation as quickly as possible.

If they agreed, Perdita smiled and then, just before she turned and walked away, she spoke again. "Ask people questions," she said. There were things to be found out here, she was sure, and between them, they'd do that. That said, she was off to the library, where she'd be looking for books on the Iyo, on Audrae, on instances of things changing colour and - of course - on that man and this cult.

Well that settled it. Gladysic, in Eli's humble opinion, appeared to be several nuts and bolts shy of a properly functioning whirtligig. And while the young man wasn't usually the argumentative type, in this case he couldn't resist. "Maybe I'm just not familiar with Desnind's poltics, the chain of command and all that. But whatever you think of what's happening with the iyo, what gives you the authority to decide they ought to be destroyed?" Just what was Desnind's chain of command, if there was any? And if anyone was really in charge at all, why weren't they speaking up or chiming in?

Seemed the man had it backwards. If he had any real evidence to back of his claims about Audrae meddling, it ought to be him that proved it. But there was no arguing with a fanatic, Eli reasoned. If he'd thought of trying, he was startled out the prospect by the little tunawa suddenly appearing on his shoulder. In spite of his surprise, he grinned a little. "There's a nice trick," he said, before all the crackling began. But if Perdie was confused by the strange woman's words, so was Eli. It appeared she'd be going off on her own, trailing the cultists, but still, "Is that like the royal we?" he whispered to Perdie, since she was the one with the book learning. "Or does she mean all of us?"

Never mind, though, the three of them that were left had agreed that investigating this business was the best way to go. But if they were going to study the iyo, Perdie was right. They'd have to collect some of them first. Apparently while Perdie combed through the shelves at the library. "You'll be alright by yourself?" Without him there to protect her, he meant. Though he suspected he knew what she'd answer already. "I think I've got something in my sack to store them in," he said. And when she was gone, Eli dug into his leather bag and pulled out a jar that he kept stocked with spare screws, nuts and other odds and end. Screwing off the lid, he emptied it back in his sack and with his knife, poked a few holes in the lid.

"You know where to find them?" he asked the tunawa. Once they did, he could simply collect a handful of them and keep them inside the jar. "By the way, my name is Elijah. Most people just call me Eli. I'm an engineer. Or at least I'm working on it. I know a lot more about gadgets, machines and how things work than I do about plants or iyo. I guess that's more your area of expertise. And alchemy?," he asked. "So you said we'd need to see what the larvae will become. When does that happen exactly? Is there a way to speed up the process?"

Kisaik shook his head at the retreating elder. "What an odd fellow!" He shouted, perhaps too loud. But he suspected the older man wouldn't care very much what the tunawa thought of him. He already thought them silly enough to fall for the logical trap of trying to prove a negative state. "Proving a negative state is virtually impossible! How are we to accomplish such a task? Well, we can prove that the Iyo are harmless when they mature at least..." Kisaik was talking to himself as much as the two humans that were nearby.

When the man named Eli introduced himself, Kisaik nearly jumped. How could he have forgotten! "I'm ... Well my human friends call me Chip. My name and titles are many, but Chip from what I hear is easier on human tongues. Pardon for not introducing myself sooner, but that elder seemed in a state that needed immediate attention!"

"Pleased to meet you, Eli! And you, Milady!"

At Eli's question to where they could find the Iyo, Tunawa scratched his bearded chin for a few moments. "Hmm. I've never really known where they keep the Iyo during the Cocooning season. Most Tunawa are asleep during this season, in deep hibernation on account of the cold.. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask the guards?!"

"As for how we can preview what they become... I just so happen to have some special spirit magic that makes things grow faster. It'll make a young pup mature to full measure within a cycle, but for an insect, I'm sure it'll work in absolutely no time at all!" Kisaik grinned, summoning Ataja to his side. Another twig-like being emerged from seemingly out of the woodwork and dropped on Eli's other shoulder. This one was a twig, with several lengthy vines that served as legs. It waved friendly towards him and Perdita.
