Storm's Edge

There are thick sturdy walls built from stone and timber that protect the fort from most assaults. The walls themselves are roughly eighty feet in height and there is a covered walkway at the top that is accessible by several interior flights of stairs that allows archers to man the parapets. Within the walls is a large open square that is kept clear to allow room for Knights mounted on Storm Rocs to land with ease. To one side of the main square are tents and hastily erected shelters where an array of blacksmiths, armorers, and horse stables are arrayed. The other side has stables for any Storm Rocs stationed at the fort. Many tradesmen journey here from Rharne to provide their valuable services to the Lightning Knights, as the pay can be higher due to the hazardous conditions.
The central structure and main component of Storm’s Edge is the fortress seated at its heart. The fort lacks the architectural flourishes of the Lighting Knight headquarters in the Sky Quarter of Rharne, and is built around a spacious inner courtyard. This fort is made from thick timber beams and massive walls of dense river stone similar to the exterior walls. A large common area on the ground floor contains weapon racks and a scattering of simple tables and chairs for weary knights to rest at. Additionally there is always a roaring fire in the hearth on the western wall of the common room. This area is often abuzz with activity, with groups of Knights coming and going from patrol and preparing for extended expeditions into the Stormwastes.
The rest of the first floor houses various workshops, which are sometimes extended by underground excavations. All storage for food, timber, iron and such sundry supplies are built under the fort, with access via a single guarded entrance, adjacent to the fort’s stockmaster’s office.
The courtyard has a deep well that draws water from an underground stream. This along with another, bigger such well in the outer square, provides water for most of the fort’s needs. Thus the fort is provided with a reliable source of water even in the middle of Saun. The courtyard also boasts the one bit of greenery within the fort, in the form of a kitchen and herb garden. This is carefully tended by the cook and the fort healers, and provides some welcome fresh vegetable additions to the menu, herbs for seasoning, and the basic medicinal plants for the fort’s basic medical needs.
The large and expansive second floor to the fort that contains several wings of orderly and neat barracks that are used by the resident Lighting Knights. Each barrack contains over a dozen narrow beds, storage chests and a few washrooms in the back. The second largest room in the fort is the armory on the second floor. This room sits in the northernmost hall and contains a plethora of weapons, armor and even some tack and saddles for their mounts. There are very few windows on the second floor, but there are open-air arrow slits that allow skilled archers to shoot at any threats that might approach from beyond the wall.
The third floor contains only a few rooms that serves as quarters for the highest ranking members of the Knights that are currently serving at Storm’s Edge. There is also a large war room at the heart of the third floor where the senior members plan assaults and patrols around the Zynyx River and along the edge of the Stormwastes.
