Nomad's Camp

Type: Tented camp, migratory

Size: Varies; contains 1 to 2 tents and can spread from 10 to 20 meters across.

Description: Jinyel's oldest and truest shelter. This is the camp of a seasoned hunter: the tents are as well used and cared for, every item is organized, the woodpile is stocked for precisely the number of days the camp intends to remain, and the central walkways are cleared of debris. This camp is typically found near running water, at least a mile away from any road or settlement. It is usually concealed inside a copse of trees, around a bend in terrain, or beside a cliff. From a distance, it blends into the wilderness, but becomes easier to see once a stranger wanders within speaking distance.

This camp has outgrown mere survival into a place of comfort. The tent is large, but simple, lined on the inside by thin leather panels that trap heat in winter or can be rolled up for ventilation in the summer. There is plenty of space for a visitor to set their bedroll, and no matter how many people live there, the ground of Jinyel's tent seems to always have a soft layer of moss sprouting from it.

Outside, the camp is centered around a hearth that varies in construction depending on how long Jinyel stays put. If he spends only a single night in a place, an open cookfire is sufficient. If he stays multiple days, he will often pile rocks around the fire as a makeshift oven. The fire itself seems to never go out, to never burn its food, and to flicker playfully whenever a stranger feeds it small bits of wood. Those with high detection skill or spiritual powers might eventually detect that the hearth contains a friendly fire Anak.

At the outskirts of the camp are the various mounts and beast of burden Jinyel brings with him, saddled in daylight and bareback at night. There is usually a tree chosen to string up slain prey for the butchering, which can be identified from the ropes on its branches and the bloodstains on its bark. Nearby, constructed wooden frames stretch out skinned hides to be dried, oiled, and processed into leather.

Personal Quarters, Scorpion Hall

Type: Personal bedroom in Scorpion Hall

Size: Large room, tier 8

Description: A sprawling bedroom in the family home of Woe Morandi. Though it took more than a cycle of adjustment for Jinyel to grow comfortable, he has settled into this place as a permanent shelter which he doesn't have to carry with him. The shelves grow more crowded with each passing season, the chests heavier, the walls more decorated. The half-canopy bed is accompanied by a plethora of well-made furniture, ranging from the desk and shelves to low tables and upholstered chairs for entertaining visitors. A large fireplace provides enough light to read by in the dark hours, and when Jinyel is home, that fireplace is occupied by his companion fire Anak, Littlespark. A modest balcony extends from the room, large enough for several people to comfortably observe the sunset. It overlooks a two hundred foot plunge into the ocean, and is an ideal landing and take-off point for anyone with wings to fly.

Note: everything listed in Jinyel's "Scorpion Hall Inventory" can be found in this room.

Serpent's Folly

Type: Single-mast sloop

Size: Small ship, can be manned by a single person for as long as that person can stay awake. Requires at least two people to take shifts if sailing for an extended period.

Description: Serpent's Folly is a single-mast sloop, formerly a pirating vessel. After overcoming a long misadventure, a crew of angry pirates, and a very large snake, Jinyel took this vessel as his own. It is his newest shelter and the type with which he is the least familiar, serving primarily as Jinyel's transport between Scorpion Hall and Scalvoris Town.

As far as sloops go, the Serpent's Folly is of respectable size and plain craftwork. Its planks are sturdy, its sail in good repair, and it flies no colors above the mast. Its cargo hold is short; a grown man will have to bend over inside it. The hold can be accessed by several hatches along the main deck, and is large enough to contain a few hundred pounds of trade goods.

The back third of the vessel is where crew and passengers might live, if Jinyel were to gather any. The front section, equivalent to an average-size room, can hold up to six hammocks and footlockers. The captain's quarters, equivalent to a small room at the very back, contains a private single bed, footlocker, and desk, with a small window through the ship's aft wall to let in light.
