The Lights on the Water

Image
Perhaps the wisest of them all, Vivian cautioned the group against approaching the strange glowing orbs, while Pepper investigated the engravings on the stones. Vega, Arlo and Nauta approached the orbs with very little fear, after all everything on Isle Vyrelle seemed rather peaceful and benign. The orbs continued to hover in front of the men, seeming to be fascinated with them.

At the moment Pepper mentioned that maybe the orbs were testing the men because the women were naturally nice there was a high pitched popping sound that rang out across the clearing.

It was like the sound of bubbles busting, and the reverberations came from a single spot. There, standing almost weightless on the stone with the carving of the woman swimming stood a young girl, perhaps twelve or fourteen years of age. Her skin was a soft powdery white that possessed the same luminescence as the moon and she had matching long curly white locks along with a flouncy pale dress that came to her knees.

It was the same girl that had appeared under their boat, although her eyes looked smaller and more normal. She smiled widely at Pepper with a toothy grin.

“We ladies are naturally nice.” The girl said brightly while looked up with the same mischievous smile at Vivian and Pepper.
“Can’t say as much for you boys though.” The girl said with a sour frown, looking rather intently at Nauta and his red hair before her short attention span swept back up to the women.

“Now, you girls already understand! But you fellas need to be taught a lesson…just like him…” The girl said while looking down at the other stone that held the carving of the man swimming toward the woman.

The orbs began to glow brighter and become almost blinding as they seemed to split into shining tendrils of light before reaching for the men they had been hovering near. Cold, misty appendages would wrap around each of the men as the orbs’s radiance sunk into their skin, making them feel like they had been doused in buckets of cold water.

It all happened rather quickly, the men of the group would begin to glow brightly with the same hue as their orb as their bodies began to shrink and change forms. Arlo sprouted two furry triangular ears and his face shifted into that of a rather mischievous looking raccoon. Eventually his entire body followed suit and the man was nothing more than a bundle of fluff and sharp pointy teeth.

Nauta went through a similar transformation except he began to sprout reddish fur that matched his own Aukari locks. Within trills he had shrunk down and been transformed into a small red coated ferret.

Gem, although silent during the interaction with the strange girl had begun to transform into a silvery gray fox, matching the inscription of the fox on the stone in front of him.

The men would find that although they were transformed that they were somehow mentally in contact with the three woman. The women could hear their thoughts, and the men could understand the women’s words just as before.

The young girl cackled with delight from her perch atop the stone. Her delicate fingers were laced together while she lightly cocked her head at the group.

“Much better, now for the rest of the pigs.” She said with an amused smirk.

Screams erupted from the beach as the circle of men that had been drinking at the water’s edge were all attacked and transformed by the surrounding orbs. Within moments the men had shifted into the forms of squealing pigs, their panicked calls echoing from down the path. All the other men on the island were also all transformed, though most into forest creatures similar to Arlo, Nauta and Gem.

Howls of fear and cries of women could be heard in the distance once all the tourists on Isle Vyrelle realized what had happened. Every man on the island was transformed. While the women were left to take in the horror of what they had witnessed.

The moon pale girl with the glowing skin hopped down from the stone, her bone white hair drifting behind her on a ghostly wind.

“You’ll have to rely on them if you want to get your bodies back boys.”She said icily while pointing toward Vega, Pepper and Vivian.

“So let’s play a game…it’s simple, so simple even you blockheads can understand.” The girl giggled under her breath, whilst leering at the transformed men. “This is my island…so you’ll have to play by my rules. Find me….it’s just that simple, find me again and this will all be over."

The girls turned toward the path that continued further into the biolumenecent forest.
“I’ll even play fair and give you a hint.”She added gleefully.

Her voice seemed to change, becoming older and more refined like that of a lady rather than that of a troublesome child.
“Where the water meets the peak,
And the sky touches the land,
Only there can you find me,
And once again become a man.”

With that the girl seemed to fade from existence as if she had been nothing more than a specter. The group was left with a conundrum and a crisis to resolve.

Curiosity Killed the Cat:(Concequence)Arlo was naturally curious about the orbs and someone important has noticed. There will be ramifications from this in the future along with a consequence at the end!

Details: Men , you are now transformed into woodland creatures. Thankfully you are mentally connected with the other women of the group, so you can still speak to them telepathically, although the connection does not go both ways. The women will still have to speak if they wish to get a point across.

Fellas, you can talk to all the women at once or them individually just by focusing carefully on who you wish to speak with.

The Lights on the Water

When Pepper pointed out that, if flowers started smelling bad more quickly, people would stop using them, Vega considered it. "They look pretty an' smell nice in the earth. Killin' them so you can have 'em in yer house? I don't understand the way people live. If they like how they look an' how they smell, get a plant pot. Grow some." It was a stupid thing to do and that was that. She shot Arlo a good natured grin. "I''ve got a ribbon wrapped haddock with your name on it so I 'ave."

Vivian didn't answer her question, which caused Vega to shrug and chalk it down to experience, but then both she, Arlo and Pepper talked about a woman they'd seen. "I didn't see anyone. Was it when I was playin'?" Vega wondered, but then Pepper asked a question and there was a sound then...

.... then a female popped into existence and she seemed to have a real bad case of bitter about men. She was going to say something when Arlo started to glow and the orb wrapped around him. Vega swatted at it, ineffectively and she looked at him with wide eyes. "Arlo, what're you doin'? Stop it!" She knew he had no choice but that wasn't the point. Turning to the woman, she spoke. "Hang on, this isn't right. I know that lot were bein' dweebs on the beach, but Arlo's a good person, an' Gem seems like a nice sort. You can't be makin' them glow an' bloody 'ell an' flappin' fuzzballs, Arlo, what're you doin'!"? The last of course was as she realised that Arlo was, in fact, a raccoon.

"Arlo? Is that still you?" Even before he spoke or moved, she knew it was. Dropping to her haunches, Vega crouched next to him. Then the girl who was a woman spoke again. Vega was coming to the conclusion that she really hated females with white hair. Magic, irritating, spirit-like, superior-feeling females with white hair especially. Old ladies were alright. But she listened to what this particular white-haired woman-child said and she frowned. Then, she picked raccoon-Arlo up and she lowered her head until it was right next to his, her voice below a whisper in his ear. Unaware, at that second, that he could communicate she breathed quietly to him. "We'll get this sorted, don't worry."

When his voice happened in her head, though, Vega let out a slight squeak of surprise. "Well, that's 'andy. You ok?" Looking around at Vivian and Pepper, she met their gaze with a grim, determined sort of expression. "So, I know what I'm doin'. What about you two?" Her hand was on Arlo, unconsciously scratching just behind the ear where Zyqat liked it.

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch

The Lights on the Water

When Arlo had visited Immortal's Tongue with a university group, and was studying the Originals, they'd visited a group of ruins with its walls covered in all sorts of drawings. Ancient ones. He'd viewed from a storyteller's perspective. They were lore and legend, history, maybe there was a message there if anyone had known how to read it. But these stone drawings weren't so very different from that in a sense. What he'd seen before had just been on a much larger scale. Vivian, as she'd introduced herself previously, might be right. It might be a message to outsiders. And not a very friendly one at that.

And no, they might not like men though there was no firm indication of that, just yet. "Yeah, it was when you were playing," Arlo said when Vega asked. "She looked like....that," he said, frowning when the girl he'd seen beneath the boat, appeared in front of them all. But by then of course, the orb had captured his attention. Apparently, the girl just didn't like men, since Arlo couldn't think of a single thing he'd done or said to have earned her distaste.

He was as surprised as Vega was when he began to glow, when something took hold of him and transformed him. He'd stop if he could. He'd definitely stop if he could. But it all happened too fast. All of a sudden he was looking up at all the women who apparently had not been changed at all. But he definitely had and it took a little self-examination to realize just what had been done. A raccoon? Maybe he should have been more worried than he was.

However Arlo had spent a lot of time in the wilds, and seen a lot of different creatures. Both fantastical and ordinary woodland ones. Raccoons were some of the best. Cleverer than most. Problem and puzzle solvers. Little acrobatic wonders with functional hand like paws. And just visually appealing and charming enough that even an old housewife that's caught one dining on the pie that she'd put on the windowsill, took pause at the idea of killing one. It could in fact be worse. It could have been a skunk or a sloth.

And according to the girl, it was probably only temporary anyway. "Of course it's still me," Arlo said when Vega asked, except that at first it didn't occur to him that he wasn't a talking raccoon. As a result, it came out as something between a chitter and a snarl. But the message apparently was plain enough though a connect not unlike the one he shared with Lyova. "We'll fix it," he agreed, for if they didn't, well, this tended to complicate things for sure.

So a game, a puzzle, a challenge. Arlo liked those as a general rule, even if he didn't care much for the one that had set it all into motion. But a raccoon, a fox and a ferret, and the women left as they were. An odd bunch, no denying. "Sounds like the top of a high cliff peak of some sort where a stream or river tumbles over into a fall." Meanwhile, Vega was scratching behind his ear, and for a second Arlo forgot himself...since it was a very sweet spot, and his left foot began to thump before he stopped himself short. "Stop that," he said, for Vega alone.

So what were they waiting for then? Which way to where they were going? All it would take would be a meeting of minds before he'd be off on a four legged trot. Which meant that naturally there'd be some dignity lost as Arlo acquainted himself with his new form and exactly how it functioned. Four legs and a bushy tail wasn't his norm. Nor was waddling a bit as he trotted along.

The Lights on the Water

Image
Vivian wheeled on her heel when the voice sounded from atop the stone she was leaning on, listening to the ghostly figure with a frown. "Yeah, that's her from the water." she agreed with Arlo. Then she started to transform the men and Vivian snarled, gathering lightning in her palm and throwing it at the wispy girl. The bolt passed through her harmlessly though, and Vivian snarled again, drawing her rapier from under her coat, getting it briefly caught inside the coat. Once she got it free though, she tried to stab through the girl, again without result.

Ultimately the girl disappeared to the sound of distant screams from the direction of the shore they had arrived on. "Oh, that's just lovely. What, too scared to face us physically, you fekking coward?" she shouted into the forest, evidently less than pleased with not having been able to injure the ghost or prevent the transformation. "Thinking we'll run in fear from that little display, you little cur? We'll track you down and I'll drag your pathetic arse up to Ilaren herself!" she shouted again, before sheathing her rapier, now flopping her coat over so that it was stuck behind her sheathe instead of covering it. She had no reason to try and hide it now, after all.

When the men's voices sounded in her head, she looked over her shoulder at the critters that had once been their companions and nodded. "Aye, we'll get it fixed. Track that wispy quim down if we have to scour the whole damn island to do it." she said, her tone blunt and harsh. Evidently, the Rharnian knight took having people transformed right in front of her, in flagrant disregard for her desire to protect them, as some kind of deep personal insult. "And aye, a cliff probably. Bet if we looked into the history of this place, we'd find out that little transformer jumped from a cliff on this island and instead of moving on like any sane person, she's still hanging on to her fekking hate induced hard-on for men like it's her damn child." she growled, before shaking her head. "Does anyone have a map? If so, we can use that to find ourselves a cliff. Otherwise, our best bet might be to find the shore and go around the edge of the island. Longer, but it might save us getting lost." she said, before looking at Arlo and the other men. "As for you three, not to be rude, but would you rather be carried or walk? I can't imagine suddenly having four legs and a tail is easy to adjust too." she said, grimacing slightly.

The Lights on the Water

Unfortunately it seemed as though his work in the more dangerous crafts in Idalos have made Nauta a little bit too... dull to the dangers which surrounded him especially if they were seemingly not dangerous like the enticingly bright orbs. Not even keeping the red orb at leaf's length seemed to buffer him from the menace that is the orb as the tendrils shot out all the same to get at him. Maybe he should have considered Pepper's assessment but what sort of alchemist is tested especially by a young girl and her wispy orbs? That was dispiriting! There was no such thing as a formalized alchemy curriculum even in Sirothelle with all its stuffed shirts so when it came to the alchemist, logically it should be he who does the testing.

Which was why Nauta simply gave a noncommittal shrug when it was implied the boys, with him among their number, were not naturally nice. He did not think she meant there was something unnatural to the men being nice at all but he knew it best that he was not a very nice person even if there were times he tried to be. However even if the new presence seemed nice outwardly, his initial thought of her was she was not especially when she looked down at him; Nauta thought for a moment the man the girl referred to was down six feet under after some unpleasant incident.

Though being doused with cold water, or an experience much like it, was unpleasant all the same- not as unpleasant as being turned into some furry forest critter against his will though. Even more unpleasant was the fact the other man got something cooler in the form of that silvery gray fox although Nauta would only be able to consider that, humorously or not after the bewildered aukari was able to compose himself. On the bright side, even in his agitated state he did not feel like he was any closer to erupting as any natural aukar- "no! What the fuck is going on here?!?" There was no looking at the bright side of this.

And if he had to rely on the other women to get back to normal, he felt he did not have much hope in his release as the aukari believed he could only ever rely on himself. As he had no choice however he naturally gravitated towards the person he was more confident in, Pepper and, neither the women brutish nor boorish. "At least there are no wolves this time..." he said nervously, hopefully; it would be a mouthful of him and he was done.

Which made him even more apprehensive of the danger he was in as he tried to make use of his one means of escape. As long as he was out, he would have a hope right? Wrong. Try as he might, he was still stuck in the form of the ferret. Oh, why could he not have been the fox? Vyrelle was such a scam and like all the others, Nauta too was fooled by its beauty as it appeared all around him. Remembering the girl's demeanor as she addressed the men and spoke of him, the aukari tried to see if he could find something else which may indicate why all this had to happen and then there it was;

Spite.

Nonetheless, he was not in the business of solving another's problems but his own and he got to thinking of the riddle, the only clue to return him to his much more desirable aukari form. He asked the group if they really did have any reason to trust the girl was telling the truth in her riddle; it could be fake to lead them elsewhere and further from the one person which could turn them back to normal, if she could at all. If not, it could always just have its true meaning concealed behind the obvious. He thought on it a little bit more before he said "maybe she's waiting at beach. Not where everyone partying at. Somewhere far from everyone else. Maybe east?" though he would only explain when asked it had something to do with the sun.

Though on his preference to query of being carried, while Nauta was a little used to being a furry critter, he would not mind being carried. At least if something good were to come of this, it is the chance for him to be a little bit lazy and take it as some sort of a vacation although... what he would actually say about that was his doubts of whether they would be able to catch up with the girls on their tiny legs.

The Lights on the Water

Pepper listened to the ghost girl, as she had mentally dubbed her, with a sinking heart. With every further sentence she spoke, her contempt, and perhaps resentment, towards menfolk came through louder. And then the orbs threw out tendrils of power and wrapped the men in their power. "What are you doing? What is going on?" But the girl took no notice. And then there was no more cause to wonder about it, in place of the men stood the three woodland creatures depicted on the stone slabs around the clearing. Gem was now a silver fox, Arlo a racoon, and Nauta a red ferret.

"Are you ok?" Pepper immediately dropped down next to Gem where she'd been standing, and she could hear Vega checking on Arlo in the background. Vivian was attempting to stab the ghost girl, but not having any success either. "This is wrong! These men did nothing wrong, but even if they did, you can't just turn folks into animals!" The ghost wasn't listening at all. Pepper couldn't help but feel guilty, she had heard the rumours talking about missing men, and that the Cathedral would be investigating. She should have at least mentioned that titbit before the whole group traipsed into the forest, she had done exactly what she'd assumed she wouldn't do.

And then there was the sound of distant screams, "You are not entirely sane are you." Pepper said, more to herself that to the ghost girl. It seemed they wouldn't have been any safer on the beach. But then she was too focused on making sure she caught everything the girl said, she didn't want to miss any clue that could reverse this disastrous situation.

“Where the water meets the peak,
And the sky touches the land,
Only there can you find me,
And once again become a man.”

And then the girl disappeared.

Pepper was absently petting the fox and the ferret forms, Nauta had also come over by her side by then. It'd have been strange had the two not felt at least somewhat scared, and petting calmed them, and her too.. By then she'd heard the men talking to the group telepathically, a lot like Miret and she talked actually, so at least it was just a matter of reversing the transformation. That was not to say there was any 'just' about it. She appreciated Nauta's attempt at seeing the humour of the situation, "Yes, at least there are no wolves!" To Vega, she replied with "Of course I'll be coming along to see this made right." How she'd do that she'd no idea though..

Vivian though, seemed to have a plan and when she asked if any of them had a map of the island, Pepper offered "I don't have a map, but I've a compass, and chalk." She stood up, and once Vivian had finished, offered her own comments. "I think we should cut through the middle as much as we can, with a compass, and being able to mark our route with chalk, we shouldn't get lost. This would let us check if the middle of the island is higher too."

Taking out the compass and chalk from her bag, she resettled everything on her shoulders. "I don't mind carrying one of these either, " she pointed at Gem and Nauta. A few trills more to gather her thoughts, then "So to summarise, we would be looking for a cliff sort of place, with a stream or waterfall. Though if the ghost girl is lying, there's no telling where she'd be, or even if she'd be willing to turn all the men back. So I think there's no point thinking about that possibility." She tapped her foot against one of the rocks, then said "You know a pool or lake might fit the riddle too, especially if it's somewhere high, so that a peak of some sort is reflected into it, along with the sky.."

"Miret," she called to her fairy, "Would you check with Lyova about whether you both scouting ahead for the best route would be a good idea? And ask her to see if she or Arlo or Vega has a better idea too?"

The Lights on the Water

Image
And so, the racoon, the ferret and three women continued forward onto the path ahead. There was indeed only one path to follow but it soon ended at a fork in the road after only a few bits of walking. They were totally and completely consumed by Feldwyn forest at this point. Even amid the strange happenings of the night the forest was resplendent in its luminescent beauty. Pale greens, blues and violets wove their ways as veins and lines of light that crisscrossed the leaves and trunks of the trees. Soft glowing pink and gold flowers dotted the earth at their feet.

From here it was hard to see anything beyond the dark canopy, but the shadow of a mountain could be seen to the eastern side of the island. There were two options, to either go east or west at the fork. The east held the mountain and path that seemed to wind up toward it’s summit. However, the sound of water could be heard gurgling to the west. The men would find that their hearing was far sharper along with their vision; both had been vastly improved by being transformed into form of furry creatures. Arlo himself had the sharpest night-vision, while Nauta had a superb sense of smell, and Gem had the keenest of ears.

If any of them listened carefully they might be able to hear a not so distant rumbling from the eastern path, as if something very large was approaching them. Nauta’s keen ferret sense of smell would also be able to detect the faint hint of a human scent, buried beneath the aroma of moss and leaves that cloaked it. Whatever was to the east was somehow both human and gigantic, guessing from the sound of it’s approach.

Clearly, to the east lay the road to the mountain that had been hinted at in the riddle, but there was a mystery to the west that may soon demand their attention. If Miret or Lyrova decided to scout ahead they would find a spiraling mountain path that led to the summit of the peak. Very little seemed to bar that path, and it might only take a break or two of hard climbing to reach the summit. If they explored to the west, then the light within the forest would begin to grow fainter and fainter and they might also catch the hulking silhouette of something walking in their general direction.

At that very moment a rage filled monstrous voice thundered through the woodland from the west.

“LEAVE.”The voice commanded. It’s rumbled through the trees and shook the boughs ahead. The voice was clearly masculine but hoarse and ragged as if the speaker was not quite human.

There was a silence that followed, as the creatures within Feldwyn Forest seemed to cower and fall mute.
Without warning the voice returned.

“LEAVE NOW!” The sorrow was gone and replaced by pure unhindered rage. Within a half trill of those words being spoke the path to the west exploded with splintered trees and branches that flew in all directions. A massive figure at least twenty feet tall stepped into the center of the path. It was a man…or something that had once been a man. His skin was made from oak bark, and his eyes glowed with an eerie green radiance. Antlers made of wood grew directly from his stout arboreal body and at the center of his chest there was a dark jagged cavity where a glowing emerald heart made of crystalized amber sat.

A softer, dismal voice whispered something that would be barely detected before the beast of a man howled at the group in all it’s fury.
“Too late…you are too late.” The gentler more human voice whispered.

There were stories told across Rharne about the Heartmourn; the beast that guards Isle Vyrelle during the dark breaks of the trial. This could be no other creature, as his namesake rested glistened at the center of his hollow chest. The Heartmourn protected the Isle…and now it’s wrath had been awoken.

They had a choice, to fight or run. If they choose to take up arms, then the women would be alone in facing the guardian of Isle Vyrelle. Unless of course Arlo and Nauta wished to try their hand at taking down an enemy with nothing but their tiny teeth and claws.

The Lights on the Water

When Arlo's foot started thumping, Vega looked at him in delight and amazement. "You never did?" She couldn't hide her pleasure at the sight of him, but then, he started off in the direction he was going and Vega couldn't help but grin. It wasn't funny, not at all, but somehow the fact that Arlo was a raccoon made perfect sense. It fitted him. Clever and nimble creatures that they were, much more than they seemed to be and easy to underestimate, if you weren't paying attention.

Yet, as he waddled off, Vega couldn't help but smile.

She didn't really notice the other bloke getting turned into a weasel. He wasn't important to her and, besides, she figured that if they sorted this, they'd sort it for everyone. She glanced over at Vivian who seemed to be getting a bit... heated. Vega understood it, but equally, there was a bottom line. "It's a'right. We've been in worse situations. We'll sort it, don't worry." Shaking her head, though, no - she didn't have a map and neither had Arlo. But they were making all these wild assumptions about the girl being a ghost - which she wasn't, necessarily - and all sorts. Vega was more than happy to let them carry on and she and Arlo would move. She didn't think it likely that he'd want to be or would allow himself to be carried and she didn't take offence at the others not offering to carry him. If any of them tried, she'd break their arms.

So, she walked with him.

And then, it went dark and just as they were working out which was the best way to go - and Iris was putting her two coppers in, there was a sudden noise and Vega turned to look. He yelled and told them to leave, then told them to leave again and she stepped forward.

"No," Vega said. She put her hand down on her sword hilt, but she didn't draw it. "You got hurt, yeah?" She kept moving forward, separating herself from the group as much as she could. "We need to put this right, you know it. My name's Vega. Eva's my birth name. What was yours?" Looking at him, the terrifying creature that he was, Vega's eyes were compassionate. "It's not too late. Not for us. Please, will you 'elp us?" She stood, weapons not drawn and moving towards him. If she had the chance, she'd use the Nalos ability of "Calming Overcast" but that very much depended on how he reacted to her.

Somehow, calming him down a bit seemed like a good idea.

Ordinarily Arlo would have had plenty of maps on hand, and several compasses too. But in his current state, he didn't have any of those things. Nor pockets to hold them in either. Only his hat, which fit as perfectly on his head as ever, oddly enough. Was it a little ridiculous, a raccoon wearing a hat? Probably, but if it did, Arlo didn't give in a second thought as he trotted off down the narrow trail. "I saw that, you know," he shot over his shoulder to Vega. The amused smile, he meant, and it was fair enough he'd have done the same was it her instead of him.

Anyone else might have been more concerned or worried about being transformed without warning into a whiskered, woodland creature. But not Arlo. He and Vega had gotten into and out of much more troublesome conundrums than this. And rather than worry that this might just be the one that defied sorting, he'd decided to embrace the new adventure. In Cassion's name, no less. The world was a different one, a very different one when you were scampering along at ground level. You saw and experienced things you never would have as a taller, two legged mortal. The smells, the sights, they were amazing, the glowing nature of the forest was a wonder and he had to keep reminding himself not to scamper too far ahead, not to forget what all of them, and him and Vega were doing here.

He didn't want to be carried either and would have mightily resisted had anyone tried. Being carried was for lap dogs or those that fit in ladies' purses and wore silly sweaters, for house cats and for sissies. Arlo was none of those things. "This is really amazing," he told Vega, looking up at her as they went and he grinned. Though in his current form, it was a much more toothy gesture and his whiskers twitched with the effort. Things got more serious though when first they were warned to leave, then they were confronted by a creature that seemed half tree, half man and none too happy about it.

He knew about Heartmourn, Arlo realized, or assumed that this must have been what all the stories were about when he was a young boy growing up in Rharne. Mostly he'd figured it was Jonas making them up to stop him wandering off to places he had no business being. And besides, heartmourn it might be, but as a kid, it was heartburn he'd heard. Adding his voice, in a sense, to Vega's, Arlo tried. "We're not here to cause any trouble. In fact maybe you could help us, and we could help you."

Meanwhile, he was curious about the other voice they'd heard. The one that said they were too late. A raccoon he might be at the moment, but would the tap of a fingernail still do the trick and show him any ghosts or spirits that might be immediately nearby? It was worth a shot, Arlo figured, and so he tapped a nail, or claw as it was, on a nearby rock and took a good look and listen around them for the source of that voice.

When Vega said that her and Arlo had been in worse situations, Vivian just turned to the redhead and raised an eyebrow. "You have my condolences for your troubles then. But be that as it may, this is Rharnian territory, and this sort of shit is not going to go unanswered." she said, her tone showing she was still pretty mad, if somewhat more controlled. She knew snapping at the rest of her group would be a senseless waste of time and wouldn't help anything, so she bottled up her anger, saving it for the source of it. When they found the wispy pain in the arse what thought she could just go transfiguring people on Rharnian soil without so much as a "by your leave", then she'd have all the outlet she needed.

So she and the others headed into the forest, only to be stopped by voices telling them to leave. And then a rather large antlered creature made his entrance. "Heartmourn?" she said in surprise. She had heard the tales, but she hadn't actually believed them until now. Silly of her, in hindsight, to disbelieve things when she worked for an Immortal. She put a hand on her sword, prepared to fight, but when Vega stepped forward, the knight let out a strangled sound. Did the silly redhead not understand how dangerous this was? Then she heard what her and Arlo were trying and she forced herself to take her hand off her sword and step forward beside Vega, her hands raised to show peaceful intentions.

"You're Heartmourn, yeah? Protector of this place? I'm a Lightning Knight, from Rharne. Our people have been going missing and there's this wispy moron going around changing people into animals that I'm fairly sure is responsible. I'm charged with the protection of Rharne's people, and I'm sure you can understand that I can't leave while things remain in this situation. I don't plan to bring no harm to your island, but I've got my task to finish." she said, before something occurred to her.

"You know, this wispy girl I'm after, she's got to be more dangerous to your island than any of us. If you can help us find her, I was planning on taking her off the island, taking her to Rharne, to answer for her wrongdoing. It seems like we can help each other, yeah?" she said, her tone genial. "Once we have her, we'll be all too happy to take ourselves out of your lovely home, I assure you." she said, her tone as calm as she could make it. If this worked, they could gain an impressive ally. If nothing else, it would hopefully get him to leave them to their business.
