I have a couple ideas for names.
Kleptés was the first idea I came up with since it's the greek word for thief. I personally really like the ring that it has and we can make something up like the word being part of some kind of old language in Idalos.
This website has a lot of information about dragons, including a lot of historical dragons. If someone was willing to go digging we could like find a really good one that symbolized greed or evil.

I like the idea of making up a folktale to give the group's name some backstory. We'd be sending a message with it, and people would instantly know what we're about. (That is if the tale is well-known).
So if I understand this right, we would end up with something like this (see below) right?
For example: "Ywreech's Heralds" or "Heralds of Ywreech"
Named after a dragon who terrorised a small village every year, burning down buildings and taking the possessions of the residents until a couple priests began collecting riches and valuables from the residents to offer to the dragon, so he/she'd refrain from wrecking the town. This worked and continued every year for decades, until the villagers found out the dragon had been dead for several years, and the priests (who had begun calling themselves "the heralds of Ywreech) had just continued their taxation of the villagers as a scam. And then they were thrown in a hole in the ground and buried alive in the treasure they had collected or so.
Something like that?
As for dragons of myth IRL, I know of Fafnir, which was a german dragon, I think. Or maybe a Norse one. Anyway, he was famously obsessed with treasure and the like.

You know I agree, Kleptes has a really good ring to it. It also sounds like the kind of name a greedy dragon might have. For now my vote is for Kleptes as the dragon's name.
And yeah Oberan you've got the right idea.
. The only difference really was that I was thinking that the dragon itself would be the main evil force rather than any groups of people associated with it. The story I had in mind was more along the lines of a classical knight-slays-the-wicked-dragon-and-saves-the-princess kind of story, but having said that something less obvious like yours, the kind of story parents might tell their children to warn them about the dangers of being greedy, might be better.
Another good idea might be to leave it unclear as to whether the dragon was actually killed at the end of the story. If the Iulure Isles are ever opened we could perhaps make a good story about discovering the truth behind the story, possibly from the dragon itself.
But anyway I think that now is a good time to start the development in proper. Before I do though does anyone have any objection with naming our organization "Kleptés"? Or have any other names they'd like to offer?

Kleptes is a fine choice. It does sound real nice.

Not sure whether you guys have made up your mind yet, but I've got an extra layer to tack onto if be going with the the whole knight-slays-dragon story:
The story of Kleptes in the present age has been twisted disneyfied to one of Chivalry and justice overcoming the big bad monster, a aesop about taking too much coming to bite you in the arse with a knight's greatsword. But the original version of the tale for anyone willing to actually pick up the original book is a cynical dragonheart-qsue tale about a dragon and a knight colluding with one another to defraud villages across the land. The dragon would attack a village, make off with some gals and gold, and the knight would go in pursuit of the dragon, 'kill' it in a big flashy duel, and return to the village a hero. Rinse, wash, repeat with the next faraway village. The dragon gets a risk-free way of growing his hoard, and the knight gets a steady income from grateful villages, a 'finder's fee' from the dragon's hoard, and increasing his fame without any danger.
It's a two-man con, a robbery on more than one end - they think they have to fear the dragon but both the dragon and the knight are thieves. We wear the name and symbol of the dragon, but we're really the knight, leveraging off the dragon's fearsome visage to misdirect and grow our own shiz.

Alrighty then, since there are no objections then by the power vested in me I hereby declare our organisation's name to be Kleptés!
I'll post a request for a mod to run this meeting quest for us tomorrow. The characters I have down to participate in this thread are as follows:
If anyone else would like to join, or someone currently on the list decides they'd like to drop out, please shoot me a PM by tomorrow. You do not have to participate in this thread to become a member of Kleptés, as we'll still be recruiting new members once we're formed, but you won't be a founder of the organisation.
I'll also get writing a story about the great dragon Kleptés in the Creating the World Forum. And Zipper whilst I do love your idea, and will try to incorporate your idea into the story somehow, I think the dragons were all wiped out or sealed away by the Immortals before humans came along, so while it could work as part of the fairytale it couldn't be used as the actual truth I don't think.
Let's do this guys. It's gonna be fun!

No, no, no...
The Dragon cast an illusion spell on the knight, so he'd see switched images, and hear roaring shrieks from the princess, instead of her begging pleas as he strikes her down, thinking he's slaying a mighty foe.
Then as turns to go to the princess for his "happily ever after", he sees the dragon, who laughs and flies off, leaving the devastated knight to realize his error. And the dragon hoard of treasure is now revealed to be the bodies of other such victims.
The knight, of course, then threw himself on his sword in horror and despair.
You want a name? How about "The-Doomed-to-be-Crushed-Beneath-Vuda's-Adamantite-Heel-if-you-EVER-Show-Your-Faces-in-Etzos"?
I think it has a nice ring to it...

Well, should they come to Etzos, surely no member of this thieving group would have the audacity, nay, the sheer treachorous instinct to betray said group to Emperor Palpat- Gracious And Radiant Lord Vuda.Maltruism wrote:No, no, no...

Surely such a thing is unimagineable.
Surely...
On a more serious note: with the developments I have planned for Finn, I'm not sure if he'd ever want to be in Zipper's vicinity again, except to strangle her... so, I may have to hop out off this group.

Okay guys I've been talking to Maltruism and I think the plan has pretty much come together.
Does anyone have any objections to this thread being set on the 40th of Zi'da? We're going to be starting off in Foster's Landing, having a planning session for a special jailbreak mission, and then taking a sneaky portal into Etzos proper.
Aqihlih we've got another portal that can take us to Foster's Landing, as well as a special motive for joining the heist if you need one.
