NPCs

Use this thread to create NPCs for the Rangers. This will allow consistency between players and will mean that you can have more skilled NPCs than the usual "faceless" ones being played consistently without needing to go through the full approval process.

As long as the NPC meets the requirements / restrictions below, you may play them immediately and don't need to wait for approval. It is perfectly ok for you to post them here after you finish your thread with them! If you use your skills against them, however, this submission MUST be linked in your review request to ensure that our Peer Reviewers can confirm.

Please note:

• The Rangers work in groups, but how that's laid out will be dependent on the situation
• They are a well-trained and effective team. They are not incompetent, please don't play them as such.
• While there are those who are corrupt AND those who are incompetent - this is NOT what this place is for. If you wish to have a Ranger NPC be corrupt, incompetent, look the other way, etc - then they must be submitted as a City NPC and this must be made very clear in the dev submission. This thread / these NPCs are for the ones that are doing their jobs.
• Consider these "flavour" NPCs. They follow the same rules as flavour NPCs , but with more skills than usual flavour NPCs.
• The same rules for story as Flavour NPCs apply. You can meet them, see them in passing, notice them in a bar, etc. If, however, an NPC becomes a significant part of your story, then they should be submitted as a city NPC.
• Please use them in a way which makes story sense for their level of experience. An Advanced Veteran is not likely to be called out to get your cat out of a tree.

  Brief Description of Personality: Froblin is inquisitive and eager. She is the first cadouri to volunteer to join the Rangers. At least as far as she knows. She specializes in underground exploration and mineralogy. If you want to explore a cave safely, you want this overgrown fox bat in your party!

  Brief Description of Personality: Refed is one of the Rangers’ leading experts in setting up and taking down base camps and other activity sites. He is a go-to for quartering parties. He is cheerful and almost always gives the impression that he is exactly where he wants to be, doing what he wants to do. His easygoing attitude, peculiar skill set, and lack of significant leadership ability or combat skills have held him back from promotion in the Rangers, but he doesn’t seem to mind.

  Brief Description of Personality: Elise is a member of the Rangers who works to help when camps are needed to be put up / taken down quickly. She is able to focus on the task and works very well. She and Refed have often worked together - she's quick-witted and makes sure that all the bases are covered. She's more than able to take charge of a situation and work quickly and efficiently. Although she out-ranks Refed, she has learned to respect his abilities and, when they are working together, she will tend to defer to him when they're planning. After all, he knows the logistics and planning better than she does .

  Details: Grey, shark-finned with billowing gills atop his head Leland is an intimidating visage of a Mer. The Ranger force affectionately call him 'The Nurse' because he loves to teach and nurture, often taking on more than one mentee. However, this sweet nickname belays his harsh didactic pedagogy. He believes one cannot complain about the state of anything without taking responsibility for correcting it. He values community, self sacrifice, pragmatism and common sense. There's never any need to do things the "right way" just because it's the way it's done. Instead, he'll often find creative and pragmatic alternatives if they are appropriate. While this makes him completely unpromotable, given his inability to play nice in a bureaucracy; he is a valuable team leader and mentor in the Rangers. While Leland is deeply religious, no one knows what immortal exactly he feels the need to pray to daily. Most often Leland can be found in Sweetvine and the Mountains but is often sent to deal with water-based concerns that arise across Idalos. While Leland was once part of the Akktava tribe, since joining the rangers he rarely speaks of the tribe. Some worry he is not as loyal to Scalvoris as he seems - but most find those rumours toxic nonsense about a private man who has long served and sacrificed for Scalvoris.

  Brief Description of Personality: Rosser Hopkins is a Yari who has been doing reconnaissance work all over Idalos since before a lot of his fellow Rangers were born. In spite of his seniority and obvious skill, “Hop” is generally self-effacing and has a quiet intensity about him, emphasis on “quiet”. His favorite saying is: If you’re a famous spy, you’re doing it wrong.

  Brief Description of Personality: Hermin Brown prefers the company of animals to those of people. He doesn't abide those who waste his time with trifles, and gets annoyed at smalltalk about the weather. They call him the Hermit not because he lives in a remote location. He's lived in cities most of his life, but because he almost exclusively interacts with animals to the exclusion of people. However, he's the best trainer of horsemanship at the disposal of the Junior Rangers.

Skills: Expert Cooking, Expert Leatherworking, Expert Detection, Competent Fieldcraft, Competent Teaching, Competent Logistics, Competent Gardening, Novice Resistance.
Brief Description of Personality: Manos is a cocky and somewhat temperamental individual. Although he has little combat or scouting and ranging experience, he's one of the best people to have based in the camp, as someone who can expertly dress the kills of the hunt, turning them into skins and cooking the gathered meat and forage to perfection. He's happy to pass on some of what he knows to those less knowledgeable, but loses patience with people who cannot keep up.
