There was no way that she was ever going to work her way through this, Faith knew. She had to get some help in here. But equally, the young woman really did not want to embarrass or call Salinda's professionalism into question. Now, Faith knew that there was no doubting it; the woman had utterly failed to do her job. Yet, she also knew that now was not the time for blame. Salinda had stood up, said that she could not deal with it and, so, as far as Faith was concerned, she had done everything she needed to do.

Yet, looking at the four large tables covered with pieces of parchment, and the two luggage trunks still to organise, she found it hard not to be just a little bit irritated. There was just so much and she really was going to spend breaks upon breaks trying to work it out. She could do that, Faith had no doubt, but she also needed to start moving forward. And in order to do that, she knew, she had to get out of this space. Away from this.

So, she turned her attention to the fifth table. It was empty, except for a tall stack of parchment, some writing equipment and two chairs around it.

As the door knocked, Faith called. "Come in!"

She had asked that Gennadiya, one of the green cloaks, come and speak to her. Faith knew her, not at all. But she knew that the woman had come from Ne'haer, that she was organised and that she at least knew of Salinda. So, she felt, this was the time and the place to put a little faith in others.

"Hello, Gennadiya," she said, as the woman walked in. "I'm Faith Augustin. Thank you, for coming to see me. I've asked you here to help me, if you would." Faith looked at her and gestured. "To give you a very long story in it's very short. I've been given the reins of the Order. The whole Order. However, Order is something of a misnomer and in fact, it is .. this." She gestured to the piles of parchment - disorganised and chaotic as they were.

"As part of that, I am going to look at starting us again, reinventing the Order, from the ground up." Faith was twenty arcs old. Mother to twins, Champion to an Immortal and with more experience than many had in a lifetime. Yet, she looked at all of this and wondered at it.

"Would you consider sharing your thoughts with me on how the Order is, compared to how it should be?" Faith asked, gesturing away from the four tables filled with parchments, and towards the empty one. The one where the future lived.

Re: Order from Chaos 2: Defining the problem.

The young woman had been in apothecary working on prepping herbs for a tea. He had used the last of the ginger tea mix last night and she knew if she didn’t do it no one else would. It was with a ginger root in one hand and a parting knife in the other that the message arrived. The local head of her order had asked for a meeting this morning. Gennadiya wasn’t particularly worried she had confidence in her work and figured this was just a chance for this Faith to meet her newest member. Adiya had liked what she had seen so far here in Rharne. Unlike in. Ne’haer the order was blossoming here. There was this main location and a branch in the poorer section of the city.

The platinum blond haired woman walked gracefully down the halls towards the designated room. She assumed it was an office but couldn’t really say for sure as she hadn’t really had a chance to learn every nock and cranny yet. She was dressed in her standard blouse and skirt with her green robes over those. Today she had just combed out her hair and had two thine braids hanging on either side of her face. In the direct light there was something about her hair that reminded others of the first days of a cloudless sunrise.

Gennadiya didn’t hesitate as she came to the door and sharply knocked on the door. There was a prompt reply for her to come in. The young woman opened the door and walked into the room. For the first time she saw Faith Augustine and liked what she saw. She was shorter then Gennadiya, she was about the same height as her sister who had taken after her mother. There was also something about the dark haired woman demeanor which spoke of confidence. She knew who she was and was happy with it.

The young healer only had a moment to make these observations before Faith got down to business. Gennadiya’s eyebrow went up with pleased surprise. Her eyebrow just as quickly returned to its normal place as she listened. She felt her self growing more excited as the quick explanation continued. Salinda has stepped down. She sent a silent prayer to Ymiden and then felt a bit guilty.

Once Faith has finished she looked around the room and took in all the piles of papers and the many tables. Her gaze then settled upon mostly empty table. Then she spoke her voice serious but her eyes twinkling. “I hate to say it but the Order has turned into a shadow of what the stories make it out to be. Once you didn’t have a town that didn’t have some type of Adunih clinic. Now you have to travel to the a. It’s to find a clinic. Basically some where along the way we got lost, and while Salinda hastened things I get the impression it was like stabbing and already poisoned man.”

“I believe that the order and all its members are still committed to our goal to heal people and I believe that goal is what has held us together but we can’t just wake up each morning and pray to the Adunih that somehow supplies will arrive and then go out and heal.” Gennadiya pauses before proceeding “We must ever have the goal before us but to achieve it we have to be as you said an Order. We must be united, organized, and as self sufficient as possible.”

“I have to agree with you the Order needs to be rebuilt. And we all must be part of the building. We need clear communication to successes and I think that was the poison. We all got so busy doing our own thing we forgot to talk and help each other. I think that the first place to address would be the structure of the order and it’s cloaks. We need someway to make advancement more clear cut, and also some way of indicating people’s talents. If someone needs a midwife they don’t want to be sent to a battle medic.” Gennadiya finished as she looked back at the pile of people who expected on person to fix there problems. “So yes I would love to help.”

As Gennadiya described what the Order once had been, Faith could only nod her agreement. It was true, she knew, and if she had any say in it then it would be true again. However, right now she needed to deal with the immediate issue. Expansion back into the glory trials of the past would come, if she had her way, but was a distraction now. However, Gennadiya continued on, explaining what she believed and Faith nodded. "You've hit, of course, the nail on the head. Communication is and will be key. It has been lacking. But it is more than that. We have functioned as though in isolation, and that is an ineffective means of running a business. Any business." On to the wall was pinned a map of Idalos, and it was there that Faith directed Gennadiya's attention.

"Each outpost, using their own resources the best they can, but what is not happening is this." She flipped down another sheet, a transparent overlay which showed each of the cities and lines drawn between them. "We are as close to central here as we can be. A little further North than I'd like, but we have immediate access via a portal to Scalvoris. I'm going to try and get the same thing done to Desnind, but if not, I'll have a backstop position of getting the flutterbus moving more regularly." She tapped against the western continent then. "We need a means of moving items more quickly, but that's a more long term goal. Yes. Ranks."

Faith sighed slightly and looked at the platinum-haired woman. "That's where we need to start. I have no idea how many members the Order of the Adunih has. Nor what ranks they are. I'm going to send out to find out that information." It was on a to-do list ~ a long one ~ which was on the wall. "But, the reason I brought you here was because I want to re-envision movement through the ranks. As far as I can tell, at the moment it's on a case by case basis and at the discretion of the individual Outpost. I want to maintain that ability to award local feats, but have the chance to allow people to specialise."

Faith considered it and moved over to the central table. "Specialisms are important. But so too is an ability to be general. We are, in some places, everything. Midwife to undertaker, and all in between. We don't have the luxury of a focus which precludes others." She looked at the blank piece of paper and then, she nodded. "We set up a school here. In Rharne. It teaches people how to run the Order. Even the green cloaks, new members. Logistics. Business Management. Medicine. Surgery." Faith's silver eyes stared at that parchment, as though she was seeing the words written on it. She was, in fairness. "But more than that. People management, innovation. Pushing boundaries. A place for medical invention. The raft - it revolutionised bandaging. It came from a technique used to make clarified broth. Research, invention, innovation. All here. And we teach people teaching, too. "

Looking at Gennadiya, then, Faith smiled. "So. We design a basic curriculum. Then, we reward experience and learning. The combination of both, in order to be granted specialisms. Each comes with a specific reward, a trim on the cloak also?" If Rharne was the center point of excellence, Faith believed that they could move out from there. Looking at Gennadiya, she raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?" Faith's silver eyes were brimming with enthusiasm. "And how do we impart a local flavour? Lets look at these ranks, shall we?"

Re: Order from Chaos 2: Defining the problem.

Gennadiya listened as Faith began to explain her vision of the future. She sat quietly there as Faith compared it to a global business nodding her head in agreement. The young woman could see it supplies runing from one part of the order to another. The wouldn't have to run around begging supplies. It could be constant.

Gennadiya looked at her after studing the map. "I can't tell you how much I love this idea. As we centralize the order we can do so much more to help people, beyond just local healing."

She sat and listened as the rest of Faith ideas were shared. She paused for a long moment at the question of rank. She raised a finger and tapped her chin. "I think again we have an issue with comunications. As you mentioned before each location decided when it was time, but I think people don't see the point of gaining the rank because there weren't any clear guidelines." She paused and grabbed a piece of paper and began to write each of the different ranks as they currently stood. "I think we need to get ride of the band ranks. Its hard for regular people to even know what it means, as you said lets get rid of bands as arank and use it to show training and specialisations."

She drew a line through that rank then next to green wrote Novice and next to hooded Apprentice. Then she moved on to blue and wrote base. "I don't think the green cloak should be the basics rank. Blue should be that rank. The green should be the training ranks. As you said these are the ranks that should attend the college you propose for te order. People join and in a period of time get the training they need and move on and become a blue robe. Blue hodded or not should be the bulk of the order."

Next to white she wrote heads of branches. "At the other end end of the spectrum I think white should be the rank granted to head of branches like here, or Ne'haer, or Desnind and the head of the Order. They should come from grays when choosen to head the order."

She paused and looked at the grey and gold. "I personally think we should flip these two grey I think seems less prestigious then gold. I`m thinking thiese ranks would be granted based on have a certian number of specializations but not sure what their specific responsibilities would be, maybe greys run smaller branches." She looked up. "What do you think?"

They were very much in agreement, and Faith went about the process of getting things written. She was, as always, meticulous about her notes and she jotted down the thoughts the two of them were having. It seemed like they were heading towards something much more global, centrally organised but the focus for them both was structure. "Each colour of trim denotes a different specialism. There, also, we can reward people who work for the Order but not just on the front lines. We could not apply the Raft to wounds, if it had not been invented." In that example, it was she and Padraig who had invented it, of course, but that was not the point. Any organisation needed people who worked to innovate, to grow, to develop.

"If we have three levels of trim for each specialism. Goals for people to work towards. Also..." Faith stood and turned, pacing the room slightly as she thought. "I want to make sure that this basic training is uniform ~ or at least to a uniform standard. We set up a University here, not a school. I'll contact Scalvoris and Viden, give our teaching accreditation towards their degrees. Those classes which are compulsory, are free. We can do this and make it mean something to be part of the Order. Have teachers, professors, among our numbers. Cutting edge technology." Faith could be incredibly focused and, in this moment, it showed. "We make the green cloak the training cloak - full membership begins at blue. Centralise training, with a basic curriculum. Yes."

For local flavour, Faith considered it and then raised an eyebrow. "What if we have locally awarded merit badges? For specific events or achievements?" She listened to what Gennadiya had to say about changing the order in which the cloaks went and, whilst she could see the point of it, there was a definite counter-argument, as far as she was concerned. "People know what they're used to. What if we keep the colours the same, but have a trim for leadership? Also in three levels - so if you lead on an aspect of your local branch, such as the head surgeon. The second trim if you lead a branch and the third for leading the Order?" Which was her, she supposed. A

Trying not to focus on that, the young woman looked at Gennadiya and instead turned her attention to the right here and now. Sometimes, it was overwhelming to Faith when she looked at the big picture of her life and this casual addition would add to that. "I'd like to make sure that there is the opportunity for progression through the whole Order ~ no one should be denied a cloak if they have earned it." Frowning slightly, she turned to Gennadiya and considered. "This is going to be a long and difficult road, of that there is no doubt. But I believe that we will be better for it." Motioning to the tables where piles and mounds of unopened correspondence and unanswered memos, issues not dealt with and resources not used were paid testimony to, Faith breathed in. "We'll be better than that. Lets get these written down, shall we?"

As they did, Faith looked up at Gennadiya. "What do you think should be on the basic, very basic curriculum? Medicine and Surgery - so all our members have a foundation? And should there be educational requirements at each cloak? I tend to think so." Silver eyes regarded Gennadiya as a thousand questions continued to fly around in Faith's mind.

Re: Order from Chaos 2: Defining the problem.

Gennadiya sat tapping then end of the quill against her chin listening to the discussion on specialism. Her sapphire blue eyes were attentive but had that look of someone who was also thinking about what was being said. She took in each part and absorbed the information and dabbled with possible ideas for enhancing the proposal. The Lyosian woman wasn’t a yes woman, but nor was she they type of person who tried to see what was wrong. The idea was good and resolved an issue Gennadiya felt need attention with the order.

“We could do gold trim for midwifery, maybe blue for general clinical work and green for field work.” She paused and continued in her clear voice. “I like that we need more then front line healers. Black trims for medical inventors and such.” Gennadiya smiled a bit as an image. “I like the idea a lot, but we aren’t going to be able to put this trim on the hood anymore, but we can work on that latter. If you like after this I can work up some idea of how to re organize the robes for these different achievement changes.” She waited for an answer and then moved on.

Gennadiya returned to taping the end of her quill on her chin while listening and thinking. “I agree completely. The Order should be the center of currently healing knowledge. I don’t know much about University life and structure but I agree that we need their recognition of our university.” She pulled up a clean pieces of paper. “I think as we set up the university we start with the basic curriculum for a green cloak and can then add more class as we have the basics stabilized. Once we have those we can add the next tear of classes that anyone who wants to advance should take, and then add the advanced classes. “

“I like having local awards, that way the people the order works with feels more connected to them, and seeing that local issue are important to the order.” She paused and nodded with Faith’s counter arguments about the colors. Valid points. “Lets make the leadership mark a stole instead of trim, the color indicating what type of leadership. Anyone in that type of position will have some many specialization trims that I suspect a leadership trim would be lost. Sorry, probable not relevant to our discussion.”

She wrote curriculum. “These are the classes I would suggest.” She said writing down the following:
  • Anatomy of Basic Races
    Everyday Herbs and Remedies
    Common Ailments
    Diagnosing your patient.
    Basic Surgery
“We can add more but these where the first areas I got exposed to by my teacher and I have noticed that with people who kind of got thrown in healing these are the lessons I have to usually repeat.” She said looked at her hand and noticed some ink smeared and then whipped it off. “I think these are the classes that would need to be passed to gain blue cloak. Beyond that I think a blue would need to have earned at least 1 trim, and have attended a couple more class to obtain the hood, and then the gold cloak 3 trims, and either more classes or learned under a grey cloak or higher directly. We would continue with a similar pattern for gold and grey a mixture of achievements and education.”

Gennadiya offered to help with the actual practicalities of the arrangements and Faith felt a surge of gratitude towards the young woman. "Thank you, that would be very welcome." She gave a slight smile as she looked at the tables which were overflowing with parchment, each piece a different problem to solve. "Yes, me too," she said, of liking the idea of the Order consisting of more than just the "front line". "If we are to be a global organisation, we have to consider all the issues. Healing is what we do, but someone has to build the buildings, sew the sheets, organise the supplies. " They continued to work, to talk and organise, passing ideas back and forth. It made a massive difference, Faith knew that, and she was more than grateful to Gennadiya for that. Two heads were, most certainly in this case, better than one.

The idea of leadership being marked by a stole, not a trim, made sense and Faith nodded. Everything got noted down and organised, notated and questioned. Then, she looked at Gennadiya and then moved to the topic which was truly bothering her the most about the whole situation. "So, in terms of education, there's the easy way of doing this and then there's the right way. So. the right way it is." Looking down, Faith pulled a piece of parchment and sighed. It was almost as though the blank parchment mocked her - reminded her of all the things not done, not finished - many not even started. But then, she breathed in and began, as always, at the beginning.

"I am going to set up a university here in Rharne. It might be that this is another satellite of Viden Academy. Or a sister to the Scalvoris campus. Or, something completely independent. I'm unsure which is the best option, but before that I need to know what options are available." That, she explained, she would do in the next few trials. However, when she did that, she would put forward the basic curriculum to them. "I think maybe we can give it.. I have a Charter in Medicine, with a focus on blood and incurable disease. The University in Viden and Scalvoris has a system of Letter, Certificate, Diploma, Charter and, finally, Licentiate. I need to start my Licentiate, so that I can teach all levels. It's a five tier system and we have five cloaks. I think, though, we could offer .. hmm." It would depend, Faith supposed, on what they set up. Maybe, therefore, that question came after.

It was hard, thoughtful work and the pair of them had a lot to get through. However, by the end of it, there was a rough draft. She looked over it one more time and then she looked at Gennadiya. "So, the next question as far as I can see is, what role you want in this? There is a lot to be done, but it will take away from being in the field. " She looked at Gennadiya and smiled. "There's a lot to be done, I'm giving you an out." Certainly there was a lot .... a lot to be done and Faith truly did not want to take advantage.

Re: Order from Chaos 2: Defining the problem.

Genadiya made a note to add the new robes to the top of her list of projects. Then they turned their attention to other factors of the reorganization. Bringing people who had other talents then healing was proving to be more and more critical. They needed to do more then just heal people wounds they need to improve there methods and also have people keep everything orgainzed.

They continued to work, ideas writen down analyzed, expanded and either rejected or accepted. Gennadiya only casually noticed that she had ink stains on her fingers from all the writing. The young woman paused and litened as Faith spoke. Gennadiya narrowed her eyes in thought. "I would enjoy actually tending a university one of these trials." She said with smile, "i agree we should set up all five of those levels, but lets not build the upper floors before we lay the foundation. You are right lets see what happens before we get to far with plans."

Gennadiya was just finishing up the last of her notes when Faith told her there was one last thing. She raised an eyebrow and then smiled. "I love to help people and heal them, but I also love th Order, and I will contiune to help you with the reorganizing. As you said there is much to do and I will gladly help anyway i can."
