The Painted Swine

The Painted Swine is a tidy little tavern, run by a barber surgeon by the name of Tom Barber. On the sly, it also operates as a discrete healing service, as Tom Barber serves the oft neglected facets of society (criminals and such). Compared to many taverns operating out of the Dust Quarter, Tom runs a tight ship, and a clean tavern, keeping nearly everything as well-put-together and operating smoothly in the front operation. The main room is often full of the types you'd expect in a rough and tumble tavern, however, with noisy patrons all hours of the day and the smell of tobacco smoke filling the air. There's a dusty, blood-soaked ring in the back courtyard of the tavern, where fighters are expected to compete in sponsored matches. Otherwise, anyone making a mess in the front shop will have to answer to Tom himself, and that is not a position you want to find yourself in.

The establishment is spacious enough to allow for a surgeon's office in the back, where Tom and whatever apprentices he has on hand, administer both discrete healing and dental services, as well as operating as a barber and often enough as a tattoo artist. Those who enjoy a few glasses of the specialty brew 'No Regrets' and are able to stand and walk afterward, often enough are invited to get 'painted up' by Tom himself, as a sign of affection as much as respect. Those who partake of the drink rarely have the wherewithal to deny him the pleasure of tatting them up, as there is a drug in the brew that severely lowers inhibitions, beyond what ought to be possible for a glass of alcohol.

There are rumors that Tom is a follower of Mastes himself, yet these are merely rumors and quickly denied by Tom, in his usual charming manner.

Drinks

'No Regrets': A signature drink of The Painted Swine containing a trace amount of inhibition-lowering drugs as well as brain berry extract. It's a mix of beer, lemonade and absinthe otherwise with tangy overtones. Those who drink it often complain of the astringent flavor of their first taste, yet every subsequent tasting of the drink improves gradually until the person becomes addicted to it. Tier 5
Sweat of the Tater: A vodka, spiced with exotic flavors and often mixed with juices and other drinks. Tier 3
Strong Beer: Just a really strong and distilled dark blue beer. Tier 2
Mint Julep: A refreshing cocktail and spirit, garnished with a bit of mint that is a favorite of the summer months in the Dust Quarter. Tier 5

Food

Brown soup: A simple but delicious briney soup of onion and beef broth. Often prescribed to his patients after dental surgery, but enjoyed by all nonetheless. Tier 3
Meat Pie: A meaty pie of fowl or beef or fish, whatever is available on a given day. Tier 3
Bread: A simple offering that is usually paired with soup. Tom offers hard black bread, which is made softer when its dipped in his famous brown soup. Tier 2

Tom is a dapper fellow and takes great pride in his appearance. He is often enough clean-shaven, with black hair and a slicked, short hairdo that is held in place by his own blend of hair gel that he developed. His clothing tends toward the conservative, but often enough he wears an apron. Usually, a different one, depending on which part of the shop he's occupying at a given moment. A blood-covered apron sits in the back, in the Surgeon's office, while there's another for merely tattooing folk and cutting hair/beards and yet another for serving food and drink.

Although he rarely allows his patients to suffer under his knife or pliers or needle, he is a man with a vindictive streak a mile-long, and will not suffer fools in his establishment, or those who upset his carefully established order. Those who fail to observe proper etiquette, quickly learn to regret it.
