Site-wide Dark Theme

I am not sure how many people look here, but here it goes anyway.

While I know there are plenty people who like the white look and feel of the site, I personally always prefer darker themes because I find them less straining on the eyes. Long story short, I have started to make a dark theme for standing trials.

Here is a picture.



Thought I'd share it, so if you want the theme, it's really easy to install on Chrome or Firefox. See video below for Chrome installation steps.


There are a couple of caveats:

• Still in development so it may look ugly in places.
• The news stuff on the homepage was a complete pain and since I don't look at it too much/don't use it, I've hidden that away. I think I'll make a version available where this isn't hidden however. Also, the gif that now shows on the homepage obviously doesn't fit this dark theme, so you'd have to live with that too.
• Can't make any promises when I'll finish this, if ever. Kinda depends on how many people (want to) use this.

And here I was, thinking no one would use this!

I have to emphasize again that this is in development so certain spots may look weird. If you come across stuff and want to help, make a screenshot or something or just tell me where you've found a problem and I'll try to fix it and update the style.

This is pretty cool, Finn! Thanks for putting it together. A great alternative for folks who have an easier time with dark backgrounds.

Hey!

I updated the style to also make the Wiki dark.

I did it in under ten minutes so I may have missed a few spots and, to be honest, I didn't put a shitload of effort in it. Just enough to make it more consistent with the rest of the site and ensuring all content was readable.

If anyone comes across any unreadable pages, let me know and I'll try to fix it!

Updating should be easy:

2. Click update style if you've got it installed already. If you don't have it installed see the video earlier in this thread on how to install the dark theme.

You've inadvertently touched on a very good point. I was going to write a guide on how to install the dark theme, but I just now found out that Stylish, the browser extension used, has changed hands two times in recent years and has been tracking the browsing activities of users who've installed it. This wasn't clear to me and I have uninstalled Stylish and would recommend anyone who originally installed the dark theme to also uninstall the stylish extension.

I'll see if I can find an alternative for chrome and firefox soon.

oh hey - no worries! As per this announcement, we're hoping to move to a new, upgraded forum within the near future, with updated phpbb. I hope we'll be able to give our players the option of different themes when we get there - it's actually top of the list on our staff Trello board for the upgrade. So hopefully, it'll be part of the functionality. So don't stress if it isn't an easy fix!
