Race Relations
Aukari: Faldrun is Ilaren’s greatest enemy, and this animosity extends to the citizens of Rharne. Aukari are deeply hated and mistrusted by Rharnians, and are strongly discouraged from entering the city. Those who do enter are closely watched by the Lightning Knights and will find it difficult to gain employment. Anyone found bearing a mark of the Aukarian Occult is considered a spy and is immediately executed without trial upon discovery.
Avriel: The avriel are unwelcome in Rharne, primarily due to their haughty and aggressive nature. They are discouraged from entering the city, and those who do enter are closely watched by the Lightning Knights. It is the rare Rharnian who will do business with an avriel, which means that avriel visitors tend to stay only for a very brief period of time.
Biqaj: Rharne, being a port city, has an excellent relationship with the biqaj. There are a number of biqaj residing within Rharne, and an equal number who visit the city on a regular basis as traders and sailors. Those who live within Rharne tend to gravitate towards roles as merchants, traders, and sailors. The Lightning Knights also work closely with a group of biqaj who are in service to U’frek in order to guard the waters surrounding the city.
Eídisi: The eídisi are neither liked nor disliked. While most Rharnians find them to be a strange and rather arrogant race, they are, for the most part, judged solely on their individual character and abilities. They tend to be respected for their intelligence and knowledge, and any that do end up in Rharne may find themselves sought out by the Council for their insights.
Ellune: It is rather rare to find an ellune in Rharne, given the city’s relatively mild temperatures. Any that do wander into the city only do so during the colder seasons, and will find themselves regarded with hesitancy due to their unusual appearance. That said, most Rharnians will give them an opportunity to prove their character before making a final judgment.
Humans: Humans make up a significant portion of Rharne’s population and are welcomed across the city. They can be found throughout all four Quarters, and tend to be heavily involved in the city’s political, military, and religious factions.
Ithecal: Rharne has a positive relationship with Ivorian, which means that the Ithecal are frequent visitors to Rharne. Those residing within the city are welcomed with open arms, and are widely respected for their trustworthy and hardworking attitudes.
Lotharro: At first glance, the Lotharro seem like a race that Rharne would be happy to welcome into its city. They are typically big and strong, with plenty of aptitude for fighting and telling stories about their adventures and past lives. And while it's true that most Rharnian's treat these men with admiration, there is usually a degree of wariness when approaching this all-male race. Can they truly be trusted, or will they one day turn and begin kidnapping Rharne's women?
Mer: The Mer people can often be found near the waters surrounding Rharne. Public opinion on the Mer fluctuates depending on whether or not the tribes are disrupting key trade routes. Sailors, traders, and fishermen tend to have particularly strong opinions on this race, and are usually the first to complain to the Council about a troublesome Mer.
Mixed Race: Mixed races are judged either on their individual merit or on the blood that runs through their veins, depending on who is doing the judging. Some mixed races are more widely accepted than others - Biqaj/Human, for example, or Sev’ryn/Biqaj. Others, such as half-Avriels, are treated with wariness. All those of Aukari blood are looked on with disdain and may find themselves facing unwarranted aggression and criminal charges should they choose to remain within the city.
Mortalborn: Mortalborn are judged on an individual basis - mostly on who their Immortal parent is and whether or not said parent gets along with Ilaren. That said, Mortalborn tend to be looked at in awe, and sometimes in envy, regardless of who their Immortal parent is.
Naerikk: It is unusual to see a Naerikk in Rharne. Those that do enter the city often find themselves regarded with fear and suspicion, mainly thanks to the scary Naerikk tales told to Rharnian children in order to make them obey their parents. While Naerikk are allowed to enter the city without much trouble, they are not well-liked and will find it difficult to earn the trust of the city’s residents.
Qi’ora: The people of Rharne do not hold any strong feelings towards the Qi’ora one way or another. Those that are lucky enough to meet a tunawa in person treat them well, though the race’s mischievous nature can occasionally land them in hot water.
Yludih: Though Rharnians are traditionally open-minded when it comes to racial differences, they distrust the Yludih shapeshifters primarily because of an inability to identify them on sight. Any Yludih who reveals their true nature within the city of Rharne is almost always considered to be a spy, and will usually find themselves interrogated and thrown in prison.
