Qit was walking through Rharne for most of the morning, looking around for a place to begin her plan. She carried her daughter in her ghostly arms, the little girl beaming. She was wearing a green cloak from the Order of Adunih, since Qit wasn't really able to wear one at all times. So, Faith had made the cloak to fit the little girl instead. And she looked dashing in it.
Today, Qit was looking for someone to assist her in the monumental task she'd accepted from Faith. She'd need to find a special kind of person, to do what she herself could not. She moved through the city, not sure where to go, where to set up. People were beginning to grow used to the site of the ghost with the child. The cloak from the Order helped to prevent her from being harassed. But still, many stared. It was a big city after all.
Qit walked out into a market. She remembered this place. Her and Oonah frequented here before they went to Rynmere. And Qit could feel something different in the air. Something was wrong here. There were people here, and the market was working as busy as ever. Her eyes looked around. She saw a man crying on the backside of a stall. She saw a woman moving quickly with her basket of goods, eyes darting everywhere. Fear and loss permeated this place, and it bristled Qit's ectoplasm.
Then Qit saw the first one.
It was following the woman earlier, but as the woman left the market, it began to follow another. It was vaguely humanoid, made of pure darkness. She watched as it got close to an older woman, and a chill ran up her spine. The woman began to look around uneasily. Qit watched as her chest rose and fell quickly. And she could see the spirit growing. It was feeding here. Feeding off the fear that was in people here, and stirring up more. It was an Anak of Fear.
Qit'ria's eyes glanced back over to the crying man, and searched the area around him. Down near his boots, she saw it. It was cute, looked to be made of water, and was hiding in the grass near the stall. But it was feeding off the man's tears as well. An Anak of Crying.
Qit continue to look through the market, and saw so many spirits here. Spirits of mourning, fear, crying, pain. Something terrible had happened in this place. Something so bad that it was still able to be a veritable buffet for spirits. Qit forgot about searching for a place to conduct interviews for an assistant. There was a job to do here.
And she was sure that she was the only one able to do it.
So, Qit and Caza strode right to the middle of the market, and Qit sat down. She sat Caza in her lap. Qit'ria closed her eyes, and pressed her hand against the vine bracelet that was on her child's arm. She began going through the process of calming her mind. First, she began blocking out the sounds of people talking around her. That was easy. Qit never liked listening to people talk. She began to slow her heart beat as she started blocking out more and more sounds. In her lap, her daughter closed her eyes as well, and also calmed.
People walked around Qit, staring down at this woman who was just sitting in the way with a baby, but none disturbed her. And soon, Qit felt the connection bridge with her spirit friend in Desnind, the great forest Induk of the Lori. And with that connection, the vine around her daughter's wrist grew. The vine dipped down into the stone, breaking it with ease and disappearing into the ground.
Qit began conjuring up sensations from her beloved forest. The feel of moss beneath her feet. The coolness of the shade from the trees. The heaviness of the water in the air, the sounds of the many creatures around, the feel of the bark. So many things flooded her senses. And as they did, the forest began to grow around her. The vine in the ground churned the stone and flooded it with life, turning it into deep, rich soil.
This soil broke through the stone beneath the marketplace, startling many of the people in it. Soon, they were skittering away from it, as the soil gobbled up the stone bricks, grinding them into proper, natural stones. Followed by this was plant life growing into existence. First came the small plants, clover, moss, flowers. This was then followed by ivy and shrubs and other vines. And then finally, several trees sprouted around the market, shrouding the entire area in shade.
And as the small forest formed, it gave a call that resonated into the Beneath and the Imaginings. It summoned various lesser spirits of the forest. Spirits of trees and flowers, spirits of birds and squirrels, spirits of earth and water, all flooded into the area. And with their arrival, the spirits that Qit had seen here before were driven back into the Imaginings and away from the people they were feeding on and affecting.
Then Qit and Caza opened their eyes together to see the forest they'd grown. The market stalls and tables were untouched, undamaged. The forest grew around them, fitting them into it, naturally. They were as much a part of this place as everything else within it. And Qit was in the middle, sitting upon a stone, watching, and waiting.
She'd found her spot, now she waited for the right person to present themselves to her.
Note
This is an open thread for the position of being Qit's assistant. This is an incredibly serious position, that will require true dedication on the part of the PC and the writer of the PC, so do not take it lightly, please.
