[Azurewind Market] Help Wanted (Open)

Qit was walking through Rharne for most of the morning, looking around for a place to begin her plan. She carried her daughter in her ghostly arms, the little girl beaming. She was wearing a green cloak from the Order of Adunih, since Qit wasn't really able to wear one at all times. So, Faith had made the cloak to fit the little girl instead. And she looked dashing in it.

Today, Qit was looking for someone to assist her in the monumental task she'd accepted from Faith. She'd need to find a special kind of person, to do what she herself could not. She moved through the city, not sure where to go, where to set up. People were beginning to grow used to the site of the ghost with the child. The cloak from the Order helped to prevent her from being harassed. But still, many stared. It was a big city after all.

Qit walked out into a market. She remembered this place. Her and Oonah frequented here before they went to Rynmere. And Qit could feel something different in the air. Something was wrong here. There were people here, and the market was working as busy as ever. Her eyes looked around. She saw a man crying on the backside of a stall. She saw a woman moving quickly with her basket of goods, eyes darting everywhere. Fear and loss permeated this place, and it bristled Qit's ectoplasm.

Then Qit saw the first one.

It was following the woman earlier, but as the woman left the market, it began to follow another. It was vaguely humanoid, made of pure darkness. She watched as it got close to an older woman, and a chill ran up her spine. The woman began to look around uneasily. Qit watched as her chest rose and fell quickly. And she could see the spirit growing. It was feeding here. Feeding off the fear that was in people here, and stirring up more. It was an Anak of Fear.

Qit'ria's eyes glanced back over to the crying man, and searched the area around him. Down near his boots, she saw it. It was cute, looked to be made of water, and was hiding in the grass near the stall. But it was feeding off the man's tears as well. An Anak of Crying.

Qit continue to look through the market, and saw so many spirits here. Spirits of mourning, fear, crying, pain. Something terrible had happened in this place. Something so bad that it was still able to be a veritable buffet for spirits. Qit forgot about searching for a place to conduct interviews for an assistant. There was a job to do here.

And she was sure that she was the only one able to do it.

So, Qit and Caza strode right to the middle of the market, and Qit sat down. She sat Caza in her lap. Qit'ria closed her eyes, and pressed her hand against the vine bracelet that was on her child's arm. She began going through the process of calming her mind. First, she began blocking out the sounds of people talking around her. That was easy. Qit never liked listening to people talk. She began to slow her heart beat as she started blocking out more and more sounds. In her lap, her daughter closed her eyes as well, and also calmed.

People walked around Qit, staring down at this woman who was just sitting in the way with a baby, but none disturbed her. And soon, Qit felt the connection bridge with her spirit friend in Desnind, the great forest Induk of the Lori. And with that connection, the vine around her daughter's wrist grew. The vine dipped down into the stone, breaking it with ease and disappearing into the ground.

Qit began conjuring up sensations from her beloved forest. The feel of moss beneath her feet. The coolness of the shade from the trees. The heaviness of the water in the air, the sounds of the many creatures around, the feel of the bark. So many things flooded her senses. And as they did, the forest began to grow around her. The vine in the ground churned the stone and flooded it with life, turning it into deep, rich soil.

This soil broke through the stone beneath the marketplace, startling many of the people in it. Soon, they were skittering away from it, as the soil gobbled up the stone bricks, grinding them into proper, natural stones. Followed by this was plant life growing into existence. First came the small plants, clover, moss, flowers. This was then followed by ivy and shrubs and other vines. And then finally, several trees sprouted around the market, shrouding the entire area in shade.

And as the small forest formed, it gave a call that resonated into the Beneath and the Imaginings. It summoned various lesser spirits of the forest. Spirits of trees and flowers, spirits of birds and squirrels, spirits of earth and water, all flooded into the area. And with their arrival, the spirits that Qit had seen here before were driven back into the Imaginings and away from the people they were feeding on and affecting.

Then Qit and Caza opened their eyes together to see the forest they'd grown. The market stalls and tables were untouched, undamaged. The forest grew around them, fitting them into it, naturally. They were as much a part of this place as everything else within it. And Qit was in the middle, sitting upon a stone, watching, and waiting.

She'd found her spot, now she waited for the right person to present themselves to her.
Note
This is an open thread for the position of being Qit's assistant. This is an incredibly serious position, that will require true dedication on the part of the PC and the writer of the PC, so do not take it lightly, please.

Cail stretched with a groan and looked over across the cabin at the child that she had taken in. She smiled gently at the little one. Though they did not know each other super well, it was clear that the Biqaj needed the child in her life. Where as it was still unclear if the child felt the same way about the adult. It had taken her some time to prove that she would not hurt the little one. Triton helped break the ice as the child had taken to playing with the dog quickly. The animal was still young and loved to play fetch and tag with Paige. Taking a deep breath, the woman rubbed her eyes wondering what would become of the world now that Emea was gone.

“Paige,” Cail called gently, “come on dear it’s time to get up.”

The woman kneeled down beside her and gently moved the child’s hair out of her face. She smiled gently when the young child opened her eyes. Standing up Cail moved over to her chest and took out her hair brush along with the toothbrush. She was embarrassed thinking about how little the woman knew about tending to children. A large part of the Biqaj culture was making sure the children were well taken care of a ready to go out on their own. Looking over, she smiled gently at Paige when the little one sat up and stretched.

“Shall we visit the market today and get you some things?” Cail asked.

She never wanted the girl to feel like she was trying to force her hand in something she did not want to do. A bright smile bloomed on the older woman’s face when the child agreed and got up. The adult was surprised to see the little one making her little cot every morning. One thing the woman wanted to get her was a hammock of her own. They always seemed more comfortable than a bed or cot. Though that was only one woman’s opinion versus someone who had spent most of their life in a bed. Other than her first time getting out of the hammock, the child had seemed to take to it fairly easily.

Cail brushed through her hair quickly and probably really roughly wincing slightly when there was a knot in the way. Putting the brush down afterwards for Paige to use, the woman pulled her hair up into a high ponytail. She finished her morning routine after digging out Paige’s own toothbrush she had grabbed real quickly in town after helping Oonah off the boat. Moving around the woman dug out her boots and pulled them on letting Paige use one of her shirts like a dress. Cail pulled a belt from her chest and put it around the child making it look more dressy. The woman knew that shoes and proper clothes were on the list of things to get for the child while in town.

“Alrighty, let’s hurry into town. If we don’t make it soon there won’t be much to choose from,” Cail stated and opened the door letting Triton run out first as he took down the gang plank.

Shaking her head, she offered her hand for the child to hold if she wished. It was not long before soon the pair were down the gangplank as well. The dog had run off to find somewhere to use the bathroom Cail was sure as they moved quickly to the dirt so that Paige’s feet were not hurt. It did not take long for the rocks used for the docks and streets to get too hot. Humming the woman stopped for a moment looking around, she saw the market area and directed the child that way. They moved quickly and looked around seeing everyone really nervous. Confused the woman looked down at the child not sure if she was missing something or not.

Paige shrugged not sure but moved closer to the taller woman just in case something happened. Cail moved farther into the area and watched those around her. Tilting her head to the side she was not completely sure why people were crying or running around almost like trying to get away from something. The only thing or rather person she recognized was the snarky woman from several seasons prior. Motioning with her head, the woman approached still holding Paige’s hand happy to see at least one person who did not seem upset for no reason.

“Hello, Qit’ria. How are you and the baby doing?” Cail asked with a smile.

Many people had eyeballed the ghostly mother and her child from a safe distance, muttering among themselves and pointing. Qit cared not. She let her eyes roam while her ears listened to the sounds of this extension of the Desnind forest grown anew. There were some lightning knights looking on, clearly debating amongst themselves about whether or not they should be involved. On the one hand, this was a bit of a public disturbance, but on the other no one was hurt and it didn't seem that any real property was damaged. The stone road had been, but it wasn't as though the road was not usable now that it was dirt. This forest outcropping even had a path now for carts, right where the road had been.

But no one had approached the strange woman and child.

Then Qit saw a vaguely familiar face, and she found her eyes rolling so hard she thought they might pop out of her head. Fishcunt was walking toward her. Of all the forests in all the world, she had to walk into Qit's. Qit hadn't seen Quail since she was alive. And she was fairly certain the woman had nothing but an echo between her ears. Still, Quail approached her when no others did, and she did so in a pleasant, respectful manner. While Qit suspected that it was because Quail hadn't noticed yet, the woman didn't treat her like a ghost, but rather, just another person.

And she asked about Caza.

So, Qit smiled at Quail. "We is muchly good. How is you, Quail?"

Qit could was trying to read Quail's eyes. Just how blank of a slate was this woman? Not only did she not seem to notice that Qit was a ghost, it looked as though she hadn't noticed the forest here. After all, Qit had met Quail in this very market seasons ago. Still, the woman was at least bold. Or dumb. It really was hard to read people for Qit. Which was frustrating.

But Faith had given Qit a task, and she intended to see it through. But that required help. So, Qit would see if this woman was up to the task, despite the fact that Quail had not been informed that there was a task yet. Qit gestured to the stone in front of her, "Sit. Listen."

Qit took a deep breath, which was just habitual, since ghosts have no need to breathe, then she began, slowly, trying to speak as clearly as she could. "Trials past Blackbird born, Desnind forest get fire. Muchly damage. Fire stop, much death. I go forest, no know why. Find deer of dreams. Deer made of forest. This deer hurt. This deer burn. No much move. Move pain."

As she spoke, she could feel the forest around her continue to grow, for this was the story of how Qit and this forest spirit met. The forest was holding its breath, the few animals here quieting, holding their breaths, figuratively. "I go to deer. I touch. I give water. I help move, take from dead forest. As deer move, color return, deer start heal."

She looked Quail in the eyes now, "Deer give me task. Muchly big task. I not know how do task. But deer not deer. Deer be forest. I take task. I need prove forest I strong."

Her eyes softened, "Task first, I learn respect. Task second, I learn I no strong as I think. Task third, I learn thing not of nature not trust. Task fourth, I learn fear. Task fifth, I learn sacrifice."

Her mouth grew into a grim line, "I learn I small. Small, but do great." Qit knew she was no great storyteller. Her thoughts were rambling and her words struggled to match, "Quail, you small. But small can be part of muchly big forest." Qit stuck out a hand, materializing it to be somewhat solid, as a butterfly landed upon it, "All thing have place in forest. All needed." She blew on the butterfly, though this did nothing. The butterfly did not notice for there was no air in Qit'ria's undead lungs.

"What forest you in, Quail? What lesson you forest teach?"

Re: [Azurewind Market] Help Wanted (Open)

It took a few moments for the woman to take notice of the forest that had appeared. She had been in very few forests unless managing to sail through them. The trees and grass were amazing to see up close, wide blue eyes caught a good glimpse before she and Paige had fully approached. She then turned her full attention to Caza and her mother Qit'ria. Seeing straight through her was a bit of a shock at first, but the woman tried to hide it as he child had told her it was rude to stare at those who were different.

The young Biqaj was glad to hear that the woman and child were doing well. Smiling gently her eyes were beginning to show more knowledge than perhaps they had shown before that day. Cail had been on her own for so long that her mother's teachings were rusty but there when reminded of them. A oart of her wondered if Qit'ria would ever see her as a real person or just a child like adult. The woman would be happy to call the woman a friend one day.

“I am doing well, trying to get my land legs under me a little better. I would like you to meet someone,” Cail said and moved her hip some showing Paige to the woman, “This is Paige. If its not too much to ask how did you end up as a ghost?”

The woman looks at Paige when she moves closer to the tree. She let her hand go so that the child could explore knowing she would not go far. Not with the way everyone was acting at least, Cail took a moment to look around unsure of doing what they had come to the market to do in the first place. She turned her attention back to the mother and child before sitting down when instructed. Moving some hair out of her face, the woman made sure that Qit could see her face and more importantly her eyes were able to be seen well.

The story that Qit began telling amazed the Biqaj. She had heard stories of the city called Desnind, but had no memories of ever actually going there. The name brought up many questions that the woman wanted to ask, but she forced herself to stay silent and listen as Qit'ria told her to. This was her first time seeing Caza in a while and she was glad that the child did not growl at her like she did the first time. Cail tried to remember if she had seen a deer recently to call a picture up in her mind that would be correct. It was “the forest” that caused a confused look on her face to appear. The woman did not understand how a deer could be a forest at the same time. But she simply nodded and continued to listen.

The tasks that Qit'ria had been given were strange to the woman. She had thought of the woman as being one of the strongest people she had met since arriving in the city. The respect, trust, and fear were not Cail's place to comment on especially with the way the pair had met. Sacrifice was also a strange thing, the woman was a ghost now. Was her very life, her body not the biggest sacrifice that any one person could give? She watched as a hand raised and a butterfly landed on it content as it could be not bothered by the fact, that its perch was a ghost. The question that caused her to stop and think was what forest was Cail in. Staying silent for a moment, she looked out to the water truly contemplating how to word her response.

“My forest is a mix of water and trees where some places can only be found by using a boat. Or a small raft that can be manned by only a few people. It has taught me that nature is not predictable. Our lives are subject to change in only a matter of ticks. Just because an animal appears calm and content does not mean that it will not attack. It has shown that I have to watch everything around me, the wind, the waves, the way Triton acts, how people view me; it all means something you just have to be willing to listen close enough,” Cail answered as clear as her thoughts would gather together.

Why do the good die young... OH the thread not Qit. It was nice to see an interaction of characters with two children with them. Though I need to see the story where Caza growls at Cali. It is a nice use of a order's status to use the cloak to not get annoyed by people. Though I do wonder how Cali would interact further with Qit, I guess this thread was not it for you two. This was a good starter just wish I could chew on more.
