Order from Chaos 3: A Single Step

following: this and part of this.

On the 5th Cylus in Arc 719, Faith Augustin was 20 arcs old.

She had been a slave in Athart, trained for the first seventeen arcs of her life ~ in that time she had experienced situations which were truly awful. Then, her training had been completed by Jamal Kash'deel, a sadistic brute of a manwho did what he did in the name of Famula. After a full arc as his slave, she had been allowed, finally, out of the undertakers back room and ~ as her bare feet had taken their first steps she had, unknowingly, entered a world which would change her forever. In going out n that, her first trial allowed out unsupervised ~ at the age of 18 arcs ~ Faith had met a man who had told her about the University.

The university had changed her life.

She had wanted it. Like she had never wanted anything before - she had wanted it for herself and, because she had been so very well trained - she had told Jamal of this. He had reacted in a predictable manner and punished her severely for that selfish desire; the last part of that punishment had led her to meet Tristan Venora. He had bought her from Jamal and her whole existence had once again changed. Tristan had been the kindest man she had ever met, and most certainly the kindest owner. He had recognised her desire to learn and, since she was not allowed to study at the university, he had paid for her to have a tutor. And so, she had gone from slave to free woman, wife and mother. Sometimes, the enormity of the journey she had undertaken hit her.

Because that had just been the beginning.

Somehow, that had led her to here. Having been handed the responsibility for the Order of the Adunih which was, quite frankly, in a worse state than anything she'd ever seen. Faith had battled Immortals, been inside the body of Treid, stood and argued with Famula, died and been brought back. "And I can reliably say that this is the biggest mess I have ever encountered."

There were piles and piles of parchment. Total, unconstrained chaos. But still, there was only one thing to do Faith knew, and that was to start at the beginning. So, that was what she did. Starting at the first table, she picked up the first piece of parchment. Three breaks later, she had barely made a dent. Still, Faith knew well enough that these early breaks would be the most slow-going in terms of results as she developed the system she needed, making tidy piles by place in the first instance, then by arcs, and finally seasons. Each season, she split them into topics - at first, what she could no longer deal with and so simply needed to be filed and what she could do something with. Soon, the 'could do something with' split further down.

But, after three breaks, she had to simply get on and do something else, and so she began to write what would, eventually, be a letter. Eventually.

Our Vision, Going Forward.
Moving forward, we will be attempting to ensure that we are more centrally organised.
~ As previously written, I have been given responsibility for the Order.
~ Rharne will, therefore, become the HQ of the Order of the Adunih.
~ I plan on setting up a school here - the details of that are to follow as I will need to work them through with both the Viden Academy and the Scalvoris Campus.
~ Green cloak will be the training cloak.
~ There will be a clearly defined curriculum for basic training
~ There will be a clearly defined curriculum for all training.
~ Progression through the cloaks will require a combination of experience and education
~ We will be focusing on a re-structuring of the cloaks, trims and cloaks.

Faith sighed and looked, once more, at the piles of parchment. "Sometimes," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I fall into the trap of believing that things were more simple when I was a slave." Lifting up the next piece of parchment, she sighed again. "And other times, I don't doubt it was."

It was a complex and difficult situation and Faith knew that there was a lot to arrange. Things needed to happen, and they needed to do that in tandem. So, after another two breaks working on the piles of parchment. Things were starting to almost be at the point where she could begin to see the way forward. It would take a number of trials, she did not doubt, but finally she was seeing what it was that she needed to do. Now, it would just take time and organisation. She had enough skill in the second to minimise the amount of time she would need to give and for that, Faith was more than grateful.

Now, finally, it was time to open up the conversation with the Universities.

She knew that this was likely to be complex but she also knew that this was her job. To expand and broaden knowledge, to teach and to spread innovation - that was her remit - as it was Padraig's. So. They could do something wonderful here, and they would.

That thought was foremost in her mind as she put quill to parchment.

To: Dean Kristoff Manyon.

I hope that this letter finds you in good health. As part of my role in the University, I am pleased to report a situation which is both significant progress and an opportunity. I have been put in charge of the Order of the Adunih across Idalos. This will, undoubtedly, be good for the reputation of the medicine department of the university and academy.

Because of this situation, I am moving the Headquarters of the Order of the Adunih to Rharne. My plan is that I am going to update the progression through the cloaks and include a base level of education. My plan is to open up a new Institution of Education & Innovation in Rharne. I would very much like this to be part of my role within the Scalvoris Campus of the Viden Academy and the Institution to be part of the wider Academy and academic community. Fundamentally, I would like it to be part of the Viden Academy, but I enclose a curricula which will be offered to members of the Order of the Adunih.

I very much welcome any and all discussion regarding this. I will be in Scalvoris from the 15th to the 20th Cylus. I would appreciate your expedited response.

With all best wishes,

Faith Augustin.

Once that was done, she turned back to the piles of parchment.

"Alright, you," she said with a look of determination. "Let's do this."

As she worked through the piles, Faith came to realise that the main issues here were the issues of logistics. Moving goods, items and supplies would be absolutely key - and of course, so would communication. That could only be helped by the Eclipse Portals and the use of them. She and Padraig could use them, but this needed not to rely on one person doing one thing, it needed to be a formal and documented. So, that was the next thing to do - and that was fairly straightforward as a process. She thought it likely that the answer would be yes, but it still needed to be organised officially.

Then, she needed to set up the structure here. As the headquarters of the Order of the Adunih, she would need to make sure that the place ran smoothly as an Order outpost, but more than that, as the administrative centre of the whole organisation, Faith would need to set up new aspects, things which did not seem to have happened in Ne'haer as far as she could tell. So, she sat down and first, wrote a letter to the Council of Scalvoris and the Council in Rharne, asking for official use of the Eclipse Portal by the Order of the Adunih. This would be overseen by the head of the Outpost there and would require documenting, and so on.

It was very much Faith's hope that her good name and reputation in both places would mean that this was done - that, coupled with the renown of the Order meant that it was good for both places, she genuinely believed.

So then, it was on to the structure here, in Rharne. That was at once both simple and complex ~ which seemed to be the order of the trial for Faith. With a sigh, she lowered her head to her work.

Order of the Adunih: Rharne.
Consider setting up an outreach clinic in each quarter.
We will need a meeting room - can use Isonomia for that.
Structure, here. Will need.
- Head of the Order in Rharne. I think that needs to be me so that I can maintain an understanding of what it means to do this.
- Assistant Head x 2
I will also need
- Assistant Head of the Order overall.
- Administrative staff
- Guards
Education things - will come once others have replied.

That made good sense and Faith breathed in. Looking up as Alissa, her bodyguard, walked into the room, Faith smiled slightly. "It's all a bit ... extreme you know." Alissa nodded, the biqaj her usual rather quiet self. However, she was very much Faith's friend and as such her presence was very well received by the young Zuuda. When she spoke, what she said did not surprise Faith at all. "You need more guards, yes. But you need more than just me, Faith. This is another thing which is going to put a target on your back. Not just yours. You know that, yes?"

Faith sighed and nodded. "I do. I do know that." She didn't know what she liked less, in truth. That Alissa was right or that people felt the need to try and hurt those who helped others. But still, Faith had never been the sort of person to simply be discontent with something she was ~ always ~ pragmatic. Therefore, she added it to the list and nodded. "I'll speak to Padraig."

Who was going to like it just about as much as she did, Faith knew.

Re: Order from Chaos 3: A Single Step

Professor Augustin,

This is wonderful news. I cannot express truly how proud I am to hear that one of our most esteemed members has achieved yet another massive success. The amount of good you'll be able to do with this new position of yours is, quite frankly, unfathomable.

As for the business and paperwork associated with this, I will require you to do some work to achieve what you're asking. You will need to host a meeting with the department while in Scalvoris, in order to pitch this idea to them. I imagine it will go well, but this is proper process and such. Additionally, I would ask that you also give an open speech on behalf of the Order, to announce this proposal and the changes to the Order. The University asks that you do this on University property and we will provide any resources you need to host a successful event.

Finally, I will write a letter of strong recommendation to the Viden Academy proper.

If you require anything more, contact me,

Kristoff Manyon

Faith, you may self mod this meeting with the Medical department. If you need input or information, let me know. You may self mod the event, though I do ask that you make it open to anyone who wishes to participate. Any questions, ask away.

Edit: This also counts as OOC permission for Viden to accept this as well. You may follow up on this plot (the letter of recommendation) on your own or with Splinter if he wishes. Consider this the approval needed.

The intro involving Faith's background, and a link to the corresponding past thread, was a nice touch that gave a good sense of the journey Faith has taken in the past couple of years. It gave context and hints of her purpose to the logistics that followed.

...again, still think she needs to put out a call for some file clerks. I'm starting to think Faith likes paperwork!

I liked the inclusion of Alissa and their brief interaction.

Great job and enjoy your rewards!
