[Abathor]

Abathor stayed with Hina in her home for many days. It was peaceful here and he does not feel obliged to use his magic needlessly. He discovers he can hold a broom to help control his magic. It is not really magical but holding something steady helps him concentrate. He begins to get back his skill from long ago. He practices using his magic and he keeps track of his host and wherever she goes so long as he can reach out to her frequency. He tells Hina about his progress every day and he wants to prove he has control. If he has control he hopes she will give him more magic. He is not too old yet and there is still time for him to become revealed. He believes that if he becomes revealed he will have a new body and a new lifespan to live. He can make a new path for himself.

“Please give me your magic.”

He asks her every day since he came here. He tells how he has improved and he is in a good state of mind. He is not crazy for power he only wants the ability to heal himself. He is ready to ask every day until he is kicked out of the house. There is nothing he is not willing to do to get more magic.

“You want more magic too I can feel it. Give me what I want and I will give you what you want. This can be simple. Don’t fear death we are both strong spirited. We will make it through.”

[Hina]

Hina was getting attached to this crazy old guy who had started living with her. He seemed to want nothing more than to become a stronger mage and now that he had someone willing to practice on he didn’t suffer from compulsive overstepping. At first Hina thought about putting him in some other home where he could just live out his days in peace but now she was thinking it was better of the two of them stuck together. Supposedly he had his own home, why couldn’t he live there?

By far the most annoying thing the old man did was pester her incessantly about granting him one of her magics. For the longest time she thought about the implications of what would happen if he died. Now, she just didn’t care about that. It was clear that Abathor wanted more sparks and he was going to get it whether from her or someone else. At least if she gave him one of her sparks she could get one of his in return. In addition he had seemed to grasp control of his magic, although using her broom for a focus was one of the strangest things she’d ever seen.

“Fine, if you want magic I’ll give you magic.” Hina had already prepared everything she needed beforehand. She knew she was going to be asked and when she was she guided Abathor into the room where they’d carry out the initiation. A piece of her spark really wanted to give it a try anyways and there was really no risk on her part.

[Abathor]

Abathor cannot believe his ears. He will be initiated today into another magic. He has already prepared to be rejected but his frown turns upside down. He was going to do this he was going to have a new spark friend. He follows Hina to the room and sits. He does not know the process but he remembers that his own processes were painful. He is prepared to get absolutely destroyed in his quest for more magic power.

Even though he knows pain is coming Abathor sits confident and with one smile. He closes his eyes and wishes it goes by quickly.

“Thank you kind Hina. You will not regret this.”

He does not know if Hina wants his magic too but he does not care right now. Maybe it is best that only he gets magic so hina does not get hurt. He does not care much about death because he is almost dead anyways. He will be fine if he dies right now but he hopes he can survive until he can get a new body. He just got a hold on his life again and he does not want to have that go to waste.

“how long will this one take”

He does remember that he has not eaten much today. He considers getting a snack before they start. If he is to die he should not do so on an empty stomach. He goes to eat more of Hina’s food and then comes back with a full mouth. He swallows and stuffs his mouth with cloth so his screams will not bother people outside or maybe even be heard.

[Hina]

Hina rolled her eyes when Abathor went to go eat food. It wasn’t a bad idea though. Plus it gave her time to think about what she had to do to initiate. She knew that she had the ability to do so as the spark sometimes had the urge to split off and become a seed for a new mage. It was innate as the desire to flay and it was a desire that she had so far resisted giving in to. How had her own initiation gone again? One rune on each limb and then another rune on her chest. She already knew the runes for her limbs as they had just been runes that she had learned along the way. The final rune was a mystery to her, so she was trusting that the spark knew what to do. It was called the rune of naming if she recalled correctly, but the name alone didn’t mean anything to her.

When Abathor finally had his fill and sat down Hina answered his question. “It won’t take very long but it’s painful. I draw seven runes on you and it’s over with.” Hina then got started. She drew a strength rune on each one of Abathor’s limbs, his head, and his back. Then, she asked Abathor to lay down so she could apply the final rune. She sat there for over an hour in complete silence as she replicated the rune of naming which was written on her own chest. She drew it slowly and let the spark weave part of itself into the rune and then it was done. She knew it was done because the connection was suddenly severed and the runes shined brightly. It had begun.

[Abathor]

Abathor sits still and waits. The woman puts many symbols on his body but they don’t heal him. He feels very weird when his whole body feels stronger like if he puched something right now he woud break his body into many pieces. He wants to get this over with but the lady sits for like an hour. He has patience though. He spent many years in jail so just an hour was good enough. He doesn’t worry about time after thinking back on his times as a prisoner.

He wonders what is taking Hina so long to put magic into his chest. She looks like she is spending a lot of time because she wants to get it right. Abathor hopes she knows what she is doing. He gives a prayer to god and starts to feel pain when she stops touching him.

Lots of pain comes and Abathor feels in agony. He has had pain before but that doesn’t make him any more used to it. He is screaming and shouting so loud that he feels like the windows will break. He can see why they went into a room to do this thing. Abathor will be in pain for a long time he feels but after a while he stops feeling like he will die.

“I think it is working”

He says that with a smile but with tears coming too. He wishes the pain will end soon. The runes hurt him a lot and he wishes for pain herbs. He thinks it got better but it gets worse. He flails and he hears his own bones cracking because the runes made him stronger. This does not look good for poor abathor.

[Hina]

Everything seemed to be going as planned. Abathor screamed in pain and that’s how she knew it was working. It made her heart wrench to see him go through such agony but overall she felt like this was right. She’d never seen an initiation fail, but she’d been told that the chance of dying was pretty significant. She didn’t even remember one of her own initiations that well although she did know the process. She waited and watched as her own penalties started to hit her. She became extremely exhausted and by the time Abathor started breaking his own limbs she was already too out of it to do much else. She had planned on using her magic to help Abathor heal, but using her magic to initiate was looking like it was going to force her to overstep.

It was all worth it though. She doubted Abathor would die from the initiation at this point and she didn’t think that she had crossed over into moderate overstepping (not that she would even know what that’s like). She simply felt like she had used too many runes and the dizziness along with numbness was enough to make her lie down on the floor and take a nap. She really should have brought her teacher here for this but something about that idea told her he would have stopped it from even happening in the first place. With any luck Hina would wake up the next day and see Abathor lying next to her, very much alive.

[Abathor]

Abathor is very awake. How can Hina sleep when he is in so much pain. His legs and arms are all broken now and he lays there crying. The magic pain is gone and the initiation is done but he has new pain. Will he ever walk again he wonders. He lets out silent cries and does not want to sleep. He cannot even hold his broom to take control of his magic. His magic goes out and touches Hina’s emotions and tries to make her so emotion she wakes up.

It cannot because he does not have much ether left to give. He is there laying and quiet and sad and paining. He does not dare to move or else he will mess up his bones. He trusts Hina to wake up tomorrow and help bandage him and heal him. There is nothing for him to do but wait but he must occupy his time somehow. He can hum a little so he hums a little tune he learned in jail.

He needs to stop thinking about jail time. It is free time now. Thinking of jail reminds him that he is oppressed by mean people with no magic.

Hmm Hmm Hmm he sings and stops. His chest hurts now too. There is a permanent scar there he knows already from what Hina did to him but he does not know what it is for or what it means or what it does.

The sunlight is all gone when he goes to sleep.

Comments: This has been a work in progress for a minute, nice to see it come to fruition! An interesting read, the dynamic between them is strangely fascinating. Good job guys, just a small note for Abathor to double check punctuation on dialogue but it still flowed very well! Also, if either of you would like the rest of your lores, let me know!
