Zihida delivers a stern warning to Ko'sva

1st of Ymiden 718

Almund is a thriving township with a dark side. With houses made from the wooden bodies of decommissioned ships, there are many opportunities here, coupled with many dangers.

Well, doll, that was a sarding experience,” said a beige skinned woman of Biqaj descent. My latest client glanced downwards towards me. The golden haired Biqaj woman, whose name evaded me, observed my disrobed figure sprawled off across a moderate (full) sized bed. Soon after, the woman rested her fingers on a bright red welt ever so present on my upper back. Our Biqaj, whom I would’ve estimated to be in her mid-twenties, began to push her shiny blue fingernails into the welt. “Ugh…” I groaned softly as I shifted my stomach to ease the sting. “Dear husband,” the woman said, looking up towards a brown haired human male who stood at approximately six feet tall. “This one still needs to learn manners doesn’t she?” The Biqaj woman asked of her apparent lover. He buttoned up his black trousers before walking towards the bed.

The man grabbed hold of my chin with a fair amount of aggression behind his firm grip. I looked up at him with an aura of helplessness, and a vibe of passion. Gently, I bit down on my bottom lip. This action only seemed to enhance his participation. My face was forcefully turned towards the Biqaj wife. “What do you say when Vashath treats you nicely, Ko Ko?” Now, for backstory, this was a themed room designed for individuals who dabbled in questionable tastes. This was a job I had been given due to the public perception of Aukari having an affinity for violence. I had to play to the crowd for profit.

Before I could answer I felt a hard whiplash across my face. Vashath let out a high pitched giggle at the sight of her husband delivering a slap across my cheek. “Answer me, foul born!” I finally uttered the words… “Thank you, ma’am.” Deep down I thought to myself - “This is feking degrading. Keep calm. Make these people happy so they come back. This keeps you from starving.

What they say about the Aukari is true, Robert. They are violent animals.” Vashath said to her husband. He nodded in agreement. The half of myself that was Aukari felt strongly about the prejudices I had grown to be accustomed to in Almund. The woman pulled on her cloak. I finally stood out of the bed, wrapping myself in the sweaty white sheets that covered the room’s bed. “I hope you two enjoyed your time here. Safe travels back home,” I responded, attempting to shift the subject away from discrimination. Once again adhering to the rumors spread throughout the Siren’s Embrace regulars about Aukari, I grabbed the Biqaj woman by her blue blouse roughly. After pulling her closer to my body, I planted a swift kiss on her lips. Vashath reciprocated prior to following her lover to the exit.

I sat back down on the bed - pondering what had transpired. Lisha, my Eidisi friend, barged into the room. I shifted my empty gaze up towards her. “What happened, Lisha? I just made the Embrace a whopping five silvers,” my companion ignored that. The news that would follow was much more daunting than a meager payday….“Zihida wants to see you. She’s enraged…

Reinhardt's Rage

Huh?!” The flame haired half-breed blurted out in a fit of an emotion that had proven to be hideously tumultuous in past arcs: fear. She could not fathom any reasoning as to why her boss, Zihida Reinhardt, would be enveloped in a fit over rage. What could the redhead have done to upset that larger than life persona? Ko found herself wrapped up in…undesirable wrapping. Yet, the used up bed sheets would have to do.

When Zihida called it was always best to avoid keeping the Biqaj seductress waiting too lengthy a time. Ko’sva tucked bed covering just under the inside of her left arm in order to cover those products. Shortly following, Ko snooped down the halls of the Embrace - eventually turning a sharp corner. “What could she be mad about?!” Ko blurted aloud, feeling fairly confident that no one was around to hear her rant. “It isn’t like she’s the one getting her face spat on in that lower level room…

No, I’m not the one being humiliated. You’re right,” a voice called out from in front of Ko’sva. Now, if you would’ve asked the redhead, all of the melanin in her skin could’ve vanished right then and there. That was the type of jolt Zihida Reinhardt’s appearance sent through the half-blood’s body. Before Ko could apologize for the insolence which flowed from her rosy pink lips, Zihida continued speaking. “But I’m also not you. I’m a woman of status here on this Island. You? You work for me just as your equally frustrating mother used to,” Zihida added as she tightened a grip around the fire haired woman’s right forearm with her palm.

The brothel owner pulled Ko’sva into a familiar room. Ko had not been inside of Reinhardt’s private space many times. That privilege was usually reserved for Yuloen and Zaxis - Zihida’s most trusted hands. Common whores like Ko’sva barely got a second glance from the Biqaj head of the Embrace unless they became big draws to the Almund locals or needed to be dealt with. Ko’sva was forcefully placed in a chair positioned close to Zihida’s desk. “Can you read, Ko Ko? Take a look at this.” The owner asked of Ko’sva - sliding a piece of paper to the light skinned lady. Scribbled on the paper, there were multiple messages:
The Aukari stole eight coppers from me! Horrible service!

I could’ve sworn she was going to burn the place down. The way that rookid glanced at the candles was frightening!

Miss Reinhardt, your renown premises should put safety first. An Aukari is never safe! A cousin of mine was almost killed by one!

Some easier words were fairly simple to pick out of the sentences for Ko’sva, but she wasn’t much of a reader. “Your...re-known prem.. Of...b-eh. I’m really trying Miss Reinhardt,” Ko’sva nervously looked up towards Zihida - unable to read that particular bit. The Biqaj shook her head with a sigh. “Skinny woman, these are customer service reviews: a major part of business management. People are starting to talk about you being a nuisance!” Zihida took a seat for herself on top of the desk. Everyone in the city knew that business affairs always came first as it pertained to this older woman. Ko’sva began to trip herself up verbally in search of a response.

Reinhardt's Rage

Tensions began to rise even further as she struggled to relay a decisive message to her employer. “Miss Reinhardt, baby, all I can say is...my apologies. I’m really sorry the color of my hair is costing you nels.” Ko responded submissively whilst grabbing a handful of her curly red locks in a rough manner. It was as if the mixed-blood blamed herself for being something that everyone else didn’t understand. As stated before, Ko’sva had grown up with prejudices. Part of her resented them, but accepted them as part of everyday life on Scalvoris Island. If the flame haired woman became enraged about the profanities thrown in her direction each trial she would lose control again - that was frightening.

This was life in a place where her people weren’t the majority...

But one thing ma’am, I share most of what I steal with the rest of the whores. That has to count for something at least.” The redhead stated as she reached her arms upwards to embrace the shoulders of Zihida - brushing her palms upwards and then downwards. Perhaps this wasn’t the best method of rectifying the issue at hand. However, thus far in Ko’s life, the majority of positive affirmation she had received in her lifetime occurred in physically intimate situations.

Zihida slowly pulled Ko’s arms from her shoulders with a scoff - grabbing hold of the half-Aukari’s hands. The Biqaj leaned forward up until the point where her nose was a mere inch away from that of Ko’sva. “You’ve always been a cute one, but coins even cuter....So, listen closely, Ko Ko. I’ve known your mother long enough to give you this one warning. Your sarding job is to generate revenue for me. Not to steal nels for yourself and the rest of my workers. Quit the thieving, and make yourself invisible around here unless a client requests you.” Zihida explained to the younger mixed female. To Ko, this meant that she would become even more of a curiosity...and less of a person. All because some locals feared the destruction she could cause.

If that’s a problem, you can walk out the door now. Do you understand me, skinny thing?” Zihida asked for clarification. Ko’sva’s eyes became quite a bit watery as she nodded in agreement. To an extent, Ko looked at Zihida as another maternal figure simply because she was around. Dastardly as Reinhardt may have been, she interacted with her employees. No one else cared about a brothel prostitute’s well being. Now, Ko felt worthless to Zihida. Absolutely worthless.

Poor Ko Ko. It was a little weird of a shift from first person to third, but over all well written and an enjoyable - if not unfortunate - snapshot into Ko Ko's life. I'm glad she has a friend, but it's a huge bummer no one likes her because they're all racist af. I'm interested to see where she'll end up; only time will tell!
