The third break past midnight.
That was the time, she knew, and Faith also knew that this was the time of night when everything felt most hopeless. When someone was ill, they were more likely to die at this time - Faith's obsession with finding patterns of diseases had caused her to consider many things and that was one. So, as Skeet came in, Faith took out the small sphere she had - it was about the size of a marble and it shone with sunlight. "Take this and give it to Roberta. Get as many lanterns and candles, lights of every description. If Padraig's there, ask him to use his Nalos mark." Skeet raised an eyebrow. "Chase away the darkness, Skeet. These people who are trapped, they have nothing to tell them where they are or what has happened. They need.... lanterns." Skeet took the marble, hanging in a small leather bag. Inside it, the marble was nestled in a delicate lace cover which Faith had made for it, a silk cord stemming from it. The marble shone, constantly, with sunlight. Skeet hung it around her neck and then she left.
"Alright, so we have the map and the best reports we can." Faith knew that, at this point they had all the information and now they needed to just organise it better. "We have three areas," just for a second she paused and Alissa looked at her with a raised eyebrow. Faith smiled to her self-proclaimed bodyguard. "Life, death and the in between. Moseke, Vri and Famula. Moseke in the field hospital, Vri in the morgue and Famula in the digging operation." Alissa looked at her and frowned slightly. "What? Why?"
Faith looked up and smiled a slight, tight smile. "Because people need someone to stand behind. At the moment, who's giving them a reason to live? To fight? To volunteer? If we have an identity, maybe that will help. We have to give those people reason to hope, and the ones looking for the ones that are still trapped, we have to give them energy." Alissa looked at her and shook her head. "You do." Faith's expression to that told, just for a brief moment, what she was feeling and the depths of her frustration. "Me? While we are talking here, people are dying and I am not out there helping!" She breathed in and sighed, "my apologies. I find it frustrating." Alissa nodded her head. "I understand. But you couldn't have helped me if you'd been cooking in Cally's. Or all the people like me who have lives because of you. The searchers are using your name, the healers are calling the tent 'Faith's', you have to accept that this is who you are. Sometimes, that's going to mean organising behind the scenes, but as long as you're seen, then that's the important thing."
Faith looked at Alissa and smiled. "And, right now, what I need to do is go and look at what's happening. What's needed, what's working what isn't. Then, I can put it right." Alissa smiled and nodded. "Come on then, lets do that."
