Lavender was pacing back and forth in the room, growing a bit impatient. Nalin had gone through the suggested treatment that Faith had for them on her agenda. And though Nalin said he was relatively okay, Lavender seemed upset that they hadn't really gotten a clear answer yet as to if they were in the clear yet. Lavender had even thrown her pillow to the ground out of frustration that she couldn't scream.

The nurse's came in once in a while and would eventually managed to get her to sit down so they could do some basic checks, but as soon as they left she would be back up and roaming around. Frustrations still getting to her. Nalin could see it on her face. He could do nothing but smile at it. He felt so weak at this moment. Sure they'd spent time building him up, but everything happened so fast, and Lavender swore that he almost died twice in the process of trying to get cured.

Nalin didn't really feel any different, just really tired. Exhausted even. He was actually starting to nod off when he heard the door open and he saw a familiar figure. His doctor, Faith. She had been handling everything so well, not that he understood anything that she'd done, but he was still alive, and that he was grateful for.

"So? We think it work? Or.. still on watch? Cause.. can't lie... I feel dead... dying... I don't know.. but so tired... hard to..."

Nalin let's off a big yawn and decided to let that be the end of his sentence. He blinked and almost let his eyes close before he shakes his head to wake himself up and look up to Faith. He was smiling like normal, but it was weak, tired, and he seemed ready to just end it all anyways. After all that treatment. That only came off in his eyes though. One of those.. "Please kill me now looks" without really being serious. Though, it was unknown even to him if he was serious about that thought.

Treatment Overview

The treatment for Nalin had happened and it had been a tricky time. Faith had done a lot of preparation, testing and re testing the blood she had, She had tested on first the blood and then on live animal subjects. She was as prepared as she could have been but, of course, things did not happen easily or go entirely according to plan. She had started with the ice treatment, bringing his body temperature down to what she needed. Nalin had been taking the supplements to increase his immune system and strength. They had worked and he was stronger, much stronger, but as she had known it would, the treatment was hard on him. More than hard, in fairness and Faith had to monitor and change the treatment as she had administered it. This was not unexpected, moving from animals to people was bound to come with changes, but the issue was always that those changes were unknown.

Faith's natural tendency was towards caution and, as such, she had known that she needed to be aware of that and had to mitigate against it. As it turned out, her caution had served Nalin well in this instance. She had been able to pull him through by going more slowly than she might otherwise have gone, opting to give the heat treatment twice rather risking it just once. But she had been very glad that she had done that for two reasons. First, once she was working on Nalin, it became obvious that the cold treatment put the parasite into a sort of state of hibernation, rather than killed it. That meant that the sudden heating of his blood had been needed in order to actually kill the thing. It had worked, though and Faith was pleased with it.

So, Nalin was tired and his body had been through an awful lot. But Faith was pleased. It had gone as well as she could have hoped. She was tired, emotionally and physically drained - it had been a long process and she had needed to be alert for all the breaks it took and it had taken a lot. But Faith was pleased and so she made her way down to see Nalin with what she considered to be very good news. The young woman made her way in and she smiled at both of them. "I think it worked." Faith said, with a smile. "Right now, your blood is clear, there is no parasite in there. I want to keep an eye over the next few weeks, though, test regularly." It was standard process to do that, and it was something which she fully believed in. Always be cautious, but equally?

"But I am as confident as I can be. Now, our job is to build you back up, make you stronger. It will be a slow thing, your body has taken a lot. But we will make you stronger and build up strength inside and out." She smiled at him and at Lavender. "We have taken four blood samples, all clear. So, from here we need to build you up, keep an eye on your symptoms and also, we need to treat Lavender." That, Faith explained, would be far less debilitating than the treatment for Nalin, but it would be something which she would need Nalin's support for, Faith was sure and she said so. "If you want to, we can wait until you're a bit stronger before we start that, Nalin? What would you two like to do?"

Nalin looked relieved. It was pretty much over. Faith was confident in the results. That was good. If it comes back she'll know for sure. If there are even the smallest traces still in his blood. It would take a while for the creature to mature again anyways from what he thought he understood from Peg and the time it took to mature in him the first time.

Nalin took a deep breath and relaxed into the soft and gentle hand that was placed on his cheek. Looking up to see his sister crying happy tears. She kissed his forehead and Nalin just chuckled meekly. He felt so weak, but at the same time, he felt so much stronger than before. Right at this moment he couldn't be any luckier to have his sister with him and to have this woman, Faith, believe in herself and help them to get better. But, they weren't both better, not yet at least. He blinked and looked over to Faith for a moment and then smiled and looked to Lavender.

"Saved me.... now... while I recover... help sister. She needs capability to talk. I... want to hear her voice... I... will focus on healing... faster knowing... she is getting help she needs."

He smiled softly and looked to his sister. She for a moment looked a little scared as she looked between him and Faith. She visibly gulped and squeezed his hand. He could feel her shaking. He squeezed back and his free hand moved up and started moving into familiar movements even with his mind as foggy as it was.

"You will be fine my little flower. We are in this together. It worked for me, whatever she needs to do for you will work too. I know it. Just have trust. You know that she's capable. She brings so much hope to others. Even if she doesn't know it she has quite the connection with Xiur. Please. No more worry. Chin up. You're strong. Stronger than any other woman I know. Move forward."

Slowly Nalin smiled as he watched Lavender think it through. She was strong. He could see the light in her eyes re-ignite. She would be fine. She nodded and stood up and looked to Faith before walking around the bed with tears still in her eyes and hugging her tight. The only way she could say thank you. Nalin watched as Lavender shook while holding to Faith. She was scared, but she would be okay. She was stronger than he would ever be. That said a lot. Especially with how hostile she'd originally been to Faith.

Eventually she pulls away and Nalin just smiles at the two women. They were both strong. Nalin just knew that Faith could do anything she put her mind to.

Treatment Overview

It was a lot for him, for them both to take in and Faith knew that there would be a lot of adjustment for the two of them. People who had recovered from an illness previously believed to be terminal had a tendency to experience a whole range of emotions unsurprisingly. From the very real battering his body had taken to the emotional and psychological damage. The bottom line of it was that Nalin and Lavender both were likely to be quite vulnerable and raw, emotionally, for a while now. She would keep an eye on them both, but a lot of it would depend on their own process, strength of character and so on. Either way, they had time to come to terms with what had happened and that was something which relieved her enormously.

Then Nalin spoke about his sister and how now it was time to heal her and Faith had to agree. The cure had worked and it would be much easier on Lavender, she thought. It wasn't her whole body for one and she wasn't as weak and damaged as Nalin had been. So, she nodded and then, of all things Lavender came and hugged her. Faith was not, by nature, a hugger and she was quite aware of her own personal space, but she had been working as a doctor for a long time now and she had been ambush-hugged more times than she cared to count, so she simply hugged back and smiled. "I'll do my best, I promise you." Faith never promised to cure, to make better - it wasn't fair or right to make promises she simply could not guarantee.

For Lavender, she said, the treatment would be far less invasive, far less painful. It would take a few trials and before she began she wanted to make sure that there had been no changes since she had examined Lavender last. That was where they would start, she said then, over the course of four trials, there would be a regime of oral medicine, injections and topical creams and poultices. It would be the cold and hot treatment, certainly, but it was much more focused and so Faith could make sure that there was far less discomfort.

"And you'll be able to be here together. I've changed both your menus so that will help Nalin to heal more quickly and Lavender it will make the treatment more effective for you," Faith smiled and sat down, her hand moving to Nalin's wrist as she took his pulse. "So, are there questions?" She was sure there would be, she wanted to make sure that they fully understood both what had happened and what happened now.

"Yes?" Faith said, smiling to the green cloaked young girl who had knocked the door. Why they insisted on looking nervous around her, Faith simply didn't know. Still, she was feeling tired and had a limited patience; a fact which she recognised. She was working too hard, Padraig told her. What got to her about that was that she knew he was doing the same, and she knew he was right. They were both caught in a cycle of work, work, work which neither of them seemed able to break out of. She was tired and felt unable to continue at the pace she was. Yet, if she did not, who would? Things would have to change, and she and Padraig would have to discuss it but, right now, Faith simply smiled and motioned to the young girl to sit down.

"How is she?" Faith asked and then listened to the report. Lavendar was responding to the treatment, quickly and with minimal side effects. This was a very good thing as far as the young doctor was concerned and so she looked at the written observations handed to her. "Here," she turned the parchment so that the two of them were looking at the information written down. "Her heart rate increased during the time you were taking the measurements, look. It's higher at the second taking. Why might that be?" The green cloaked girl, by the name of Anna, looked at Faith and frowned slightly, as though she was unsure of her answer. But Faith knew better, knew that the girl in fact had an idea, she was just unsure of saying it.

So, Faith waited, giving Anna time to get her thoughts in order.

After a few moments, the nervous greencloaked girl spoke. "She was anxious about me being there, taking the measurements?" Faith nodded her head, smiling. i["Exactly that, yes. Our presence reminds people that they are ill, that they are afraid. So, when we start taking measurements and observations, they grow moreso. It's nothing to worry about, it's not a large increase. "[/i]

Lowering her head to the rest of the observations, Faith nodded.

"You did it," Anna said. "You cured Inkbloom."

Faith looked up in surprise and smiled. "And that's just the beginning. Finding a cure is no good if people don't know about it. So, we're going to write to every Order of the Adunih, every Healing group we know of. The Medicine House in Desnind, the Doctors in Andaris. All of the Universities, too - a letter telling them what has been done here, and how we cured it. Because Inkbloom is rare and seems to be Scalvoris specific, we'll include information on the disease, too. Will you help me?" Anna nodded her head and the two of them spent the next few breaks doing just that.

Because, Faith believed, finding a cure was not the last step. Telling people about it came next.

Comments: So many abandoned threads lately but you wrapped this one just fine, it read so smoothly I couldn't even tell. I've yet to get deep into Faiths healing stories so it was nice to see her so in her element and curing people! I particular enjoyed her own thoughts on the matter and how driven she is, the fact that the first thing she wants to do is share the cure said a lot about her for a thread that got cut off. Good job :D

If you feel I've missed anything or if you have questions about your review, please don't hesitate to send me a quick PM or ping me in Discord. Thanks!
