Nir'wei seemed to grasp the concept of a soul trap quickly enough, and theorized that the horse's own soul was the one stuck in the well. What he'd just described was a Revenant, and from the look on his face the thought of it absolutely disgusted him. However Tio frowned at the thought. It was certainly close to being a Revenant, but something about it just wasn't quite right. "No... I don't think it's this horse's soul trapped in the well." He muttered. "It's certainly a horse's soul, but the pale horse itself is still technically alive. It's heart is beating, and it's acting too freely for an undead. I think we're dealing with something new here; something both living and undead at the same time."
He tilted his head to the side, as if looking at the well from another angle would shed some light on the matter. "I have no idea how this came about, but I think that somehow this horse was temporarily killed, imbued with the soul trap, and then brought back to life again." VonDwight could feasibly manage something like that with the help of a Phoenix Stone, but he wasn't willing to share that information. "The soul trap is still connected up properly, and so forces the body to stay alive. But the necromantic energy isn't meant for a living body, and so leaves it permanently weak and deathly. This is an existence that isn't meant to be." He sighed regretfully. "This horse is on the brink of death, and all the well is doing is stopping it from crossing the final boundary. You're right; it needs to be allowed to pass away in peace. The greatest kindness we can afford it now is put an end to its misery."
Picking up the knife again once more, Tio reached into the wound and, as gently as be could manage, severed the puckered flesh connecting the well to the rest of the body. A small tremor ran up the horse's body, and slowly it started to age right before their eyes as the forgotten years caught up with it. Strangely enough the steed didn't seem to be alarmed or in pain from the action, just... relieved. The impurity in its body had been removed, and now it was finally free to move on to better things. Gradually it closed its eyes, like it was simply going to sleep for a while, and the time between its breaths grew longer and longer until, eventually, they stopped completely.
Tio looked down at the well in his hands, his expression marred with disapproval. It was a shame to waste a perfectly good well, but the soul trapped within deserved freedom just as much as the horse did. He tossed the well over to Nir'wei. "I need you and Traveller to do one more task to bring this to a close. Fly up over the volcano and drop that well in. There aren't many things that can destroy a powerful well like that, but magma should do the trick.
He gathered up his things and turned to head out of the cave. Just before he reached the exit however he looked back at the Sev'ryn."Thank you for your help today. I hope you don't run into another situation like this one again, but if you do give me a shout and I'll be there. Good luck to you."
