Gennadiya's Father
The Autopsy room was quiet as Genna looked over the latest two kill. Normally she didn’t take two at a time. Though in this case one was badly damaged and the other had exploded so she was looking at them at the same time. The Lysorian woman stood in her normal work clothing though her gloves currently were off as she badly sketched a general layout the body pieces and made notes next to them luckily her hand writing was much neater then her drawing.
She set the journal with her notes aside and retrieved the gloves. Then she moved into searching the creature. Normally she would follow a specific process but with one of the corpse in pieces there was something critical to attend to first. Genna found the what was left of the brain and very carefully dissected it until she found a crystal piece lodged there. Not touching directly she removed it and placed it in a small bag marked Firespitter. She was sure this gem was connected to these beast and it was best to be safe. She paused and took notes before slipping a clean pair of gloves on and moved to the more in tact of the two and took a vial out. Given how bad these were damaged it took Genna while to get a descent sample.
A new level had begun with these Autopsy’s. Checking the nature of the blood which she hadn’t been equipped to do earlier. Now she did so. She extracted part of blood and slipped in onto one of the slides and slipped it under the magnifier. Slipping the right hand glove off she began to take notes.
While she was studying the patterns in the blood Genna heard someone walk into the room. “With you in a minute.” She called softly as she continued jotting notes down. Soon she had finished her notes having observed similar patterns to other blood samples she had viewed.
Gennadiya straightened up and turned with a smile towards the door to see who it was. She assumed it wouldn’t be Faith she would have moved away from the door. It might have been Mathias that or it else be a messenger. The young woman’s greeting froze on her lips as she saw who it was.
There was a middle aged man standing in the entryway. He was dressed for travel and clothing showed the signs of long travel. A wide brimmed hat sat on his head as protection against the fierce sun which was especially important giving his fair skin. It was hard to tell with the hat but the man had blond hair under his hat. His expression was a mix of shock and excitement.
“Father.” Genna said dropping the quill and racing the short distance between them. Whatever her father may have thought about when he first entered it was forgotten. He threw his arms wide and enveloped Genna in a fatherly hug. The young Lysorian wrapped her arms firmly around Kolya and held her father close. They stood together like that for a long moment as father and daughter just relished being with each other again.
After a while the two let go of each other and took a step back. Genna’s expression was pleased and there were tears at the corner of her eyes. Kolya stood looking into her face a fatherly smile on his lips. At this distance and with them so close together it was easy to see the similarities in facial structures but what was the most obvious was the matching coloration. Genna’s fair skin was a bit more pink from her active lifestyle but her father’s was unhealthy.
“Father it is wonderful to see you.” Genna said total oblivious to their surroundings. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Genna said knowing perfectly well that her father was here to see her but sure why he didn’t mention anything about it.
Her father at this point actually looked away from her and looked around the room. His expression serious and critical. Genna looked around and honestly knew that she had had cleaner work stations but given that she had had to convert and up till recently by herself she was proud of it. It was clean and organized. The furniture was what ever she could find that worked it it wasn’t really meant to be permanent.
“I got your last letter saying you had come to this place to help in the siege. You mentioned that on your first day you were attacked by a bunch of grossly mutated dogs and that you actually stabbed on in the eye.” The soft voices Kolya said looking back at his daughter. “That as after helping with a plague in the city of Rharne and helping someone named Faith, who apparently has abundance of yours, fight against a Necromancer.”
“Yes, sorry I couldn’t tell you more about that one we didn’t know if her spies would intercept people’s letters.” Genna said casually. Saying it like her father did made it sound far more impressive then it really was.
“When you were in Ne’haer you only took care of sick people. You were relatively safe not to mention I could see you a few times a season.” Her father replied giving her a look.
“You want me to come home.” Genna stated. She looked at with a flat expression. Genna wasn’t angry, she knew her father loved her and he was honestly worried about her. Actually she felt a little flutter in her being at the obvious sign of concern. Her father loved her enough to drop everything and come here to her.
“Yes I do. I know I can’t make you. I never could make you do anything. Even as a child, but I can ask. Please come back to Lysoria. Come back and practice your art at home.” He looked around room at the two corpses and his face twisted in disgust. Genna looked over and then and then turned back to her father and gave him a smile. “Not what ever butcher they have you doing here.”
“Father, any good doctor has taken apart a few bodies in their time.” He gave her a horrified look. She stepped forward and hugged her father. “I am so glad that you have come and I hope you will stay for a while, but no I am not leaving.” Genna motioned for her father to take a seat and she sat by him. “There really are a number of reasons why. The first is I have promised to help in this siege and I can’t abandon it now.” She left it unsaid that he had taught her the importance of keeping her word. Though his expression said clearly that he drew the parallel with his own teachings. She took her father’s hands in her own and looked into his face. “I also have made a home hear, in Ne’haer I worked but never progressed I just worked. Here I have found my inspiration and have grown so much.” Genna just shrugged at that point.
It was as she was holding her fathers hands she felt something odd about his hands. She did get a chance to really focus though as Kolya sighed and spoke. “I expected as much.” He said with a smile and a defeated sigh. “You will commit your heart to some when you decide to do it. Well in that case we will just go with my back up plan.” He said taking his hands out of hers.
“Back up plan.” Genna asked surprised.
“Yes, since you are all I have and at least for now I am all you have then that means I will just have to move to Rharne.”
She set the journal with her notes aside and retrieved the gloves. Then she moved into searching the creature.
