Learning To Ride

(Qit'ria) Patrick and Lush are getting into shenanigans on their own.

Beyond the city of Rharne lies the Stormlands, which is home to a number of farms, forests, fields, Lake Lovalus, and the River Zynyx. This subforum also includes the Stormwastes to the south.

atrick opened his eyes as he laid upside down up against the trunk of a tree, his entire body locked in a cramp after the hard ass tumble he'd taken. Ri'ku hovered upside down in front of his face hoping to check and make sure he had been alright, while Lush laughed as loud as lion's could during his roll on the ground. Clearly he had found the hard landing his friend endured to be the stuff of hilariousness, as Patrick couldn't help but groan now that he felt his age caught up to him.

Used to be he could hit the ground hard as he did now, and get up with barely any aches or scratches. As he eased up to relax some already he felt his lower back muscles flare up, which made the turn over onto his side that much difficult in his attempt to do so. "Yeah yeah, laugh it out you overgrown feline."

"I'm sorry!" Lush managed to heave between bursts of laughter. "Maybe next time, you won't pull so hard!"

"Nothing you can't drink off later though!" Ri'ku reassured him as she bobbed up and down eagerly, while Patrick slowly pushed himself off the ground and back onto his feet.

"Yeah I definitely think I'll open that bottle of rum later... oof!" He groaned with his hands used to press into his lower back some, as the two still giggled at his untimely demise.

Earlier...

Patrick had dressed up his green shirt and blue trousers after he'd finished a shift at the Bronze Boar, and with daylight still left to burn he had today would be the day. "Hey!" The Rharnian called out as he approached the snoozing lion just outside his house, a boot tapped against the underside of Lush's paw to stir the animal. "You're getting fat just lion around like that."

"Oh, good one!" Lush remarked with a mighty yawn as he stretched to help awaken, his yellow eyes on Patrick who wafted the ever late morning breath away. "And who are you to tell me whether I'm fat or not?! I spend a great deal of time running after deer within the wilds!"

"Do you?" The Rharnian tested with a crossing of his arms. "Whattya say we put that to the test then?"

"What? You want to go chasing deer with me?"

"Not exactly," Patrick remarked with a casual grin while Ri'ku then fluttered out the window of his cabin, "Have you ever considered the possibility of letting others ride you?"

Lush's eyes narrowed and then widened as he realized what Patrick was getting at. "Oh... I hate you already."

Present time

After their little crash course Patrick realized just how impressive a lion truly was, his speed and power something not to take lightly as a considerable mount. However Lush clearly had only a short amount of stamina, and quite honestly the Rharnian felt too much in pain to just hop back on. Thus they sat out by the shores of the lake, the Rharnian and his buddy lion relaxed while the pixie fluttered about curiously along the shore. "This kind of weather makes me want to nap."

"It's always like this really." Patrick responded as he leaned back a little, curious as to how much time was left before the sun would set. "Before too long it'll be hot and humid as fuck."

"Yeah, don't think I'll be inclined to go on runs with you then." Lush remarked as he scooted his paws forward to lay about, a few lazy pants given as he started to yawn yet again. "Some fish from the lake sounds about good right now."

"Well go fishing then." Patrick encouraged with a grin.

"Nah, you should instead. I seemed to have found myself too comfy all of a sudden." The lion argued with yellow eyes on him, as he did what felines normally do and slowly close them every now and then. Patrick couldn't help but chuckle and look back over to where he last saw Ri'ku, the little glittering creature now investigating some of the flowers and bushes nearby.

Qit'ria was in a bit of a better mood today, walking around the lake, Caza hanging from her chest by the vines, forming a sort of baby carrier. Qit had walked through the Beneath earlier this day, as she was starting to find it easier and easier to do. It still took a long while and a lot of energy, but at least it wasn't a foreign experience. She walked over the grass, still not feeling it, but trying to ignore that lack of feeling. It had been many days since she'd died but she still wasn't used to not being alive. Truly alive.

But, Faith was keeping her busy. Letting her help out with the Order. That was becoming... difficult. Qit could feel herself... learning and remembering things, but somehow it just wasn't... working. There was some sort of disconnect. Faith had told her that ghosts really struggle to... improve. To grow. For to grow was for the living. It was disheartening. But Faith was ever patient, and always had a smile upon her face.

And if Faith was going to put that much effort making Qit comfortable in this new.. deathstyle, Qit could put forth the effort to make it worthwhile. And so, she did. Her days were spent taking care of her child, learning how to ghost better, and helping out in the Order. It was nice to have purpose. But still, she wished for more. Faith had promised they'd find a way to bring her back, but they weren't any closer yet. And Faith was... busy. Qit knew Faith was hunting down the person who sent all those undead, the person ultimately responsible for her death. Qit wanted to help... but she'd told Faith that she couldn't. It was... too close. If she did, she might lose herself, again, and she didn't want to make her child a true orphan.

For the first time, Qit was not joining the fight.

But for now, she was walking with her child, looking terribly transparent and ghost like. People were starting to get used to seeing her around Faith's home and the Order, and so most were not quite so shocked. Then a scent caught her nose. Ephemera. This one was... strange, strong, pungent, feline. And it wasn't in the Beneath like most. A spirit in the open.

She followed her ghostly nose, until she chanced upon a man and a spirit and... some sort of insect person thing all having a nice chat. The spirit was some sort of large cat, she could see it glowing with power, power that she'd learned most living people could not see. She called out, "Hello." She held up Caza, who was staring and giggling and clapping at the spirit, "Can baby pet you spirit? She love spirit."

atrick hadn't expected to see what had randomly occurred but... there it was. A ghost carrying a baby, if that's what some would call it, came along the shoreline and walked up to them. Initially Ri'ku flew over to orbit the two curiously, somehow amazed with how 'cute' the child was. Initially Patrick had to check and make sure the Smooglenuff locket he carried with him wasn't in his pocket, as that would normally cause other lingering ghosts to appear when they were near. But the trinket wasn't anywhere on his body, which meant this entity had to be manifesting before more.

What was it that she asked? "Um." She'd asked Lush directly and he'd been fast asleep, which warranted a brief nudge from Patrick to stir the lion. "Hey, you got company all of a sudden." The lion looked to him first and then up to the ghost and her child, his bright eyes ponderous as he turned over onto his chest.

"Hullo." He remarked lowly as he didn't quite expect it, the lion then looked to Patrick as he didn't catch what had been requested.

"She had asked if her kid can pet you."

"I suppose... You'll have to tell her yes."

"Why can't you just tell her?" Patrick posed almost argumentative with his tone.

"You know they can't hear me, only you hear what I speak." Lush grunted with another look back to the child, a faint grin formed with his maw as he rose to a sit.

"Oooooh just nod or something! Seriously you two!" Ri'ku, who could be understood, sounded even more aggravated, but that seemed short lived as she hovered close to the child. Finally Lush nodded like the fairy suggested, curious about the child as well as the obvious mother carrying her.

Qit'ria saw the spirit nodded, and she approached gently, Caza clapping more and more the closer they came. "Muchly thanks." Qit knelt down before the lion spirit, holding out Caza who reached out to lightly smack, smoosh, and otherwise play with the spirit's face in a way that only babies can. As Qit watched on happily, her own ghostly form slowly took on the feline features of her old totem, the batpanther. Her head became that of the panther, though she hadn't noticed the transformation herself.

"What spirit are you?" She asked with curiosity, not accusation, "No lion live here. What you feed on?" Perhaps it was a familiar? She knew natural spirits that weren't bonded as familiars needed to be around their concepts. A lion spirit in the wild would be around lions. Otherwise it would starve and return to the Beneath.

She then looked up at Patrick, "Muchly thanks. I Qit'ria, this Blackbird." She set the child down against the ground, to let her continue to play with the spirit as she desired, chortling and giggling all the while. Qit'ria stood up, smiling at Patrick. She looked at the tiny being that was with him. She didn't feel like a spirit, though outwardly she looked like one. Strange. And she talked. Qit smiled at her too, "I Qit'ria."

"Well meet, all you."

As Caza played, the Vines of the Lori that were wrapped around her wrist came to life. They also tried to play with the spirit, for the vines were part of the Great Forest Induk of Desnind. There were no lions in that forest, but still, forest spirits know animal spirits intimately. "What bring you to lake?"

Pat

Overview

This began in a promising manner and I think it would have become a fun story if it had been completed. But "ach und woe" it wasn't, which I can very well understand. Your wordcount is a bit on the lower side but I can't see myself be a prig and tell you that you could have wrapped up solo. I know how "fun" that is, so it's good that you use your time for better ends than posting for the sake of it. I got a laugh and some new insight in Pat and his "feline riding habits" so I'm happy to give you the requested rewards. Enjoy!

Qit

Overview

It’s a bit sad to read about how Qit wanders around as a ghost of who she once was, taking care of her baby on her own and feeling forgotten by Faith who is busy with more urgent things than her promises to Qit. Loyal despite this, Qit wants to help out, but her ability to do it is limited. Seeking comfort in her child she goes to the countryside and lets the baby play with the beings they meet there. It’s short, but it’s well written. It's the beginning of a good read. If you had at the time found it in yourself to complete the story it would have been great, but it’s not always possible for people to follow through with everything. That's just how it is, in real life so also on roleplay websites.

I guess the wordcount rules must be the same for us all. Qit'ria made 798 words in this thread. It's 53% of the soft thread word count and you had abandoned the thread. Even if the rule is a bit flexible and I don’t use to be rigid, 53% is simply too low to give you points and knowledge. Much as I get that it must have been extraordinary pressure that made you drop right out at the time you left I’m sure you understand that it just wouldn’t be fair to other players to stretch the rule this far. So, I’m sorry. No points this time.

But, you’re a highly productive writer and Qit is a great PC with a long good storyline and many interesting themes. I’m convinced that you’ll very soon write new threads and get way more points for her ^^
