"Is Freedom Always This Complicated?"
So, let's get this out of the way. I'm doing this because I'm doing the Cylus writing challenge. If I wasn't doing that, I wouldn't ever do this ~ not my way, really. Please don't get me wrong, that's not because I think journals / vlogs etc are a bad idea. Quite the opposite, I think they're great ~ just not something that I do, usually. So, I'm really grateful and pleased about this challenge - it's always good to do new things.
So, here I'm going to " Create a vlog or write a personal journal entry talking about your PC". The PC in question is Faith and I haven't invited questions ~ although I will at the end of this. So I'm just going to talk about her and her very complicated life.
Faith is, to my mind, a very straightforward person. Padraig might, I suspect, disagree! However, she has clear priorities, strong morals and a fundamentally very optimistic attitude. She loves completely ~ and of course, I mean Padraig there but not just him. She loves her friends, she loves her life and she's very grateful for every opportunity she's had. Her devotion to Famula is unshakeable, to Vri too these days (since the Famula mark, in fact). She's very naive about some things, very wise about others; as she's grown as a pc, as she's had more and more experiences she's found herself more. These days, she's comfortable in herself and, for the first time, she understands her place in the world.
Which is more or less the same as it was when she was a slave. It is, as she sees it, her duty to serve. Be that through her work as a medic, through loving and supporting her friends and family ~ whatever it is, it's her duty to do it. Her medical skill is good enough now that she's going to start really specialising and she wants to look at incurable diseases and cure them. Ironically, maybe, she sees that as her duty to Famula and Vri. To make sure that everyone gets the lifetime they should before they die.
One thing she does, which I guess might not be readily and immediately apparent, is communicate a lot with her hands. I don't mean gestures there ~ Faith is an incredibly disciplined woman and she's usually very still. Her back is straight, her face carefully neutral ~ all things which have been schooled into her from birth. However, since I started playing her, when she feels an emotion or is needing to get ahold of herself, she looks at her hands. They're usually clasped together and the way that they are (relaxed, clenched tightly, wrapped around each other, steepled etc) each signify something different.
Throughout her years as a slave, Faith got very good at putting aside her own thoughts, fears, wants, needs and.. everything really. The way that she does that is to visualise putting the thought / emotion / whatever into her hands. That's why her hands are clasped, because she's holding whatever it is that she isn't allowing herself to feel and then, later, she drops it.
Last thing, I guess is to say that there's a side of Faith that only Padraig sees. She's whimsical and has a very quirky sense of humour. Their relationship has been defined from day 1 by snipping at each other, as they call it. It makes me smile, but to her it's incredibly significant. Even with Tristan, she was about as far away from argumentative as it's possible to be. Padraig? No, she'll scrap with him. Maybe that's because of their relationship now, but it wasn't always the case ~ they were student / teacher and friends for a full season before Tristan freed her ~ and they snipped a lot then, too. I guess it's just them? Maybe he's the only person who just genuinely stopped seeing the brands? I don't know, I just know that it is.
Where now? Who knows?! She has no clue, I don't plan. Life will continue to throw things at her, at them ~ I guess things are a new chapter for her and Pad now they're on Scalvoris ~ I'm excited to see what happens.
So. Any questions / comments I'm happy to answer.
