The Lightning Dome
In the Glass Quarter, near the great stone stairs that take locals and pilgrims up to the Sky Quarter, lies a large, round arena carved from the very same stone as that staircase. The landmark location is known as the Lightning Dome and is an arena built to bring spectacles and shows to the people of Rharne. In Ashan 722, the Lightning Dome came under the management of the Thunder Priesthood in partnership with the Order of the Adunih and they have taken what was there previously and improved upon it. Great celebrations are held here, tournaments, plays, exciting displays of magic and acrobatics and, of course, music. It is never quiet here, in the heart of the city of revelry and filled with those dedicated to the Immortal of Sound. It is even used for occasional city gatherings and important announcements.
The Lightning Dome's mission is twofold. It brings fun and excitement to Rharnians, and has become the city's go-to place for live, large-scale entertainment. It also represents the spirit and heart of the Thunder Priesthood; it is a joyous celebration of life, the Rharnian way. The proprietors of the Lightning Dome work hard to keep the arena neat and tidy, though this can often be a challenge given that the arena can seat several thousand citizens. Banners of Ilaren's symbols fly high above the stone structure and there is symbology of Ilaren proudly on display all over - from the flags and hanging tapestries to the very obvious Thunder Priesthood presence, this is a place dedicated to Ilaren. However, this place is jointly owned by the Order of the Adunih and the bright colours of the Adunih members' cloaks are as common a sight as the Thunder Priesthood. There are symbols of Moseke being revered here, too, and the reason for that is apparent in the main arena.
In the main arena there is a huge willow tree. It is well known to all in Rharne how that tree came to be there , but should anyone not know, then they will be told of the tournament where a sessfiend was nearly released into Rharne, where there was a battle to the death in this arena and where Faith Augustin had prayed to Moseke who had grown this tree here - this tree which healed those who were injured. Faith had been held in this tree for a full Cycle, her own body healing after she had battled the sessfiend, but she had emerged and the tree remained.
Directly beneath the Dome sits the barracks, which are used during combat events and are large enough to shelter 40 men and women. The barracks are broken into two sections: (1) training, and (2) rest. The training area is where combatants can warm-up and get some additional practice with training dummies prior to their fights. The rest area is where combatants can sit and wait for their next round, or rest and wash up after an arduous round within the arena. Near the training area is a small forge, but the public are not usually given access to these areas. Security here is much higher since the Thunder Priesthood and Order of the Adunih took over.
