42nd of Ashan 718

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Amaris would not claim to understand the entirety of what was happening. Things were progressing by the trill, a man appearing with information for Taysin - some of it they weren't sure they were supposed to be hearing. Little bits and pieces they could catch, but there were words that they didn't quite have a meaning for. Graft, FRA; both foreign to them, but not to the agents. The other was promptly shushed by Taysin and the mixed blood remained mute. Had they the time, they would ask about it, but soon enough Taysin was headed out the door with a call to Virikai. The mixed blood looked to the lord in question, only for the child he'd been speaking to coming up to them.

It was a quick hand-off; the tunawa placed quickly in their palm as the redheaded girl scurried off seeing that their time here was at an abrupt end. One of the twins, as well, came back to them with a set of bangles, explaining that they were able to 'know things'. What things? How? More questions they could not ask as the urgency of the situation wouldn't allow it. They frowned, watching the girl walk off for a trill before their attention was diverted to Virikai.

He seemed, for the most part, exasperated. He didn't much like children, did he? It was a pointless thought, and distracting enough that they had almost missed what he'd said. It occurred to them, though, that they could just barely understand it. The Ancient Tongue was not their native language; it was not something they had studied too intensively and had not gotten much practice in it, either. They swallowed, hesitating as they tried to pick out the words they did know. It was a question - they understood that much from his tone. And so a trill or two would pass before they nodded, assuming that was the answer he needed.

It would appear so, because off he went, and the mixed blood would scramble to follow after him, cradling both bangles and Leeloo in hand as they went.

Treela held tight to Leeloo after Virikai told her to come along and that they were leaving. Leeloo looked up at the girl with a smile. "Yeh?" Everyone else had moved on already, leaving only the two alone. With a smile a bracelet was put around her figure much lick a sash would on a normal sized humanoid. It was pretty, and Leeloo vocalized her happiness with the coo of a dove. While Treela never said what the item was for Leeloo accepted it."Tree-la! See bye-bye!" The young girl placed a kiss on the Tunawa's head before returning her to the group. She waved back at her new friend, then turned her attention to the new human she was placed on.

Leeloo looked up at her new partner before swiftly climbing up their arm and onto their shoulder, "Hallo." As they rejoined the group, Leeloo had no idea where they were headed. She was messing with the gift Treela had given her. Occasionally humming to this new person who carried her. She had heard the others speak and mumbled the meaningless words she had heard, "Viri-di-an. Bod-dies. Bod-dies. Tol-lann. Bod-dies. Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies. Tings ouut. Woork tings ouut." These words held meanings, Leeloo knew that much. Now she just needed to understand these meanings. Tollan was the boy's name. Bodies, that word held something. Something told her to start paying attention to what was going on around her.

Watching things in front of her the halls and corridors went on forever. The Tunawa could only imagine how easily one could get lost here, which made her glad to be on a shoulder and in a group. As they furthered on a smell made Leeloo wrinkle her nose. It was an overly clean smell, a sterile smell. Leeloo had never smell anything like this and doubted it was a natural smell and more a created smell. All in all, she did not like this smell.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

The tension between the two men wasn't doing Devin any favours. Yorrick's opinion of him was fast declining and while his kindness to the girl was noted, it did little to soften him. He simply rowed ashore, eyes fixed on Devin and the girl, more interested in the girl, especially given the state she was in. She had a colourful box with her, one that she claimed Linika had bestowed on her. From what the IA agent could tell, the Naerrik had turned out to be the more sympathetic of the two to the child's plight. She was the one that had risked her life and had managed to calm the child down before she did something stupid like sink her damaged boat prior to rescuers reaching her. Yorrick didn't have the same automatic prejudices that the Eídisi did, the very prejudice that had made Taysin ask him to take Linika off her hands. Still, it didn't stop him from distrusting them greatly. The ones that came to the city were typically loyal to Audrae and potential spies. They couldn't be trusted usually but this one... she surprised him greatly.

When they got ashore, Devin was left in charge of the girl but Linika managed to swoop in, despite the evident chill that had affected her. She hardly seemed able to stand and yet there she was pulling away her damp cloak and settling the warm, dry blanket around her more tightly. Yorrick found himself staring at her, searching her face for some sign of something to explain her motivations. It was while she talked, seemingly oblivious to what was going on, that he stood there and stared at her face, or more specifically her eye.

Xypha.

A Naerrik marked by Yvithia.

A Naerrik Xypha.

Taysin would never believe this when he told her; she'd be disgusted and horrified. Yorrick couldn't believe it at all. In fact, while that silvery blue mark was staring right back at him, the IA agent had forgotten about Elyne and Devin, hardly noticing the others who were rushing over. They were the very search parties that he himself had organised but right now, he was too shocked to think. When he managed to shake his head, to snap out of it a little, he realised that Devin was gone.

"Shit? Where did the weirdo go?" he gasped out, staring at where he'd stood just moments before. "Damn! The unreliable son of a- We'll just have to go without him. We don't have time to wait around for him while he does... whatever it is, he's doing."

He gave orders for them to carry the girl to the Infirmary before he turned his attention to Linika, unwinding his scarf and placing it over the Naer's head. "I can see your mark and you obviously didn't want anyone to know that it was there so... use that to obscure it a bit, put it in shadow," he warned her in a low hiss. For now, he was the only one who seemed to know about it and if she was wise, she'd accept the gesture of kindness and say nothing.
---
Devin had wandered off in pursuit of his stone, the one that he'd hidden from the view of others earlier. He would be able to draw back the blue cloth and remain undisturbed during the few bits it'd take to dig it out. He would find the stone warm to the touch as if someone had warmed it in the grasp rather than sitting on the floor of a cold and damp shed. When he laid hands on it, a gentle warmth would spread through him, doing wonders to combat the cold although after a time, he'd find it uncomfortable to hold as the heat would continue to build until he started to sweat and then feel drained and faint if he held on for longer. As soon as it went into his pocket, the massive heat that had built within him would begin to ebb, as long as it was no longer in contact with is skin.

However, while he'd been undisturbed, he wasn't unwatched. In fact, while he'd been digging, a fisherman had wandered in to get something but had stopped to stand and stare at the young man who was rooting away in a bunch of scrap. Once he'd untangled himself from the heap, the fisherman stared for a few more moments before he broke the silence.

"Are you one of those searchers? Do you not know they found the girl?" he asked, arms crossed over his chest as he regarded him with his head cocked to one side. He was human with long, dark hair and rugged features. He was young enough, in his mid-twenties, although he carried the bearing of someone older. "The little thing looked half-frozen. They'll have a hard time warming her up, but I saw them heading off towards the Infirmary so if you want to catch them, you'd better make a run for it," he explained, jerking his thumb towards the Videnese tunnels. His eyes moved up and down he young man, a soft smile on his lips, eyeing him admiringly before he moved over to grab up the blue cloth that Devin had used earlier to cover his prize up, draping it over his arm, before he wandered away to examine the fishing nets, effectively dismissing him.
---
Meanwhile, back with Yorrick's party, the IA agent had chosen to support the Naer, giving her someone to lean on while she was still so weak. The child was being carried ahead of them, the men who bore her moving as swiftly as they could while the IA agent and Elyne's main rescuer moved as swiftly as they could.

"I never would have believed that someone like you... well, I know that Yvithia moves in mysterious ways but this... this is a new one," he murmured. "How did you- How did a Naer gain her favour?" Yorrick asked softly, careful to keep his voice low so that the others wouldn't hear.

He fell into a pensive silence, the group moving swiftly so they could get back to the Academy grounds and to the Infirmary. Yorrick wondered if Taysin's group had found any sign of the boy.

By the time Yorrick's group appeared at the Infirmary, it was almost evening, and Taysin's group had not found the boy.
---
Taysin had answered Virikai's request for more information about the location by simply flashing images between the Infirmary and the Viridian Wing. The two sections were attached and in truth, they hadn't narrowed it down further than that. She'd also conveyed telepathically that she intended to try the Infirmary first. Thus, the lordling had been able to lead the way, his companions following. Amaris would have discovered a great friendliness towards the Tunawa, simply by virtue of her presence. The mixed blood might be supposed at their positive feelings towards the little creature, especially given that the two hadn't interacted. However, if Virikai had been the one to carry her, he would have felt it too; it was difficult to feel negatively about the plant-like being. It was something he'd discover if he had reason to touch her although he would feel it to some degree while in her near vicinity.

As she babbled away, mimicking the sounds that she'd heard as Tunawa were inclined to do, Leeloo was unaware that she was spouting highly useful information, vitally important to their search, although Virikai hadn't understood its significance when Treela spouted it. Besides, how could he possibly guess what corpses had to do with a missing child?

Once they reached the Infirmary, they'd help the other IA agents to search, watching Taysin grow more and more agitated as time went on. A thorough search of the Infirmary turned up nothing important and thus, they were sent walking through the corridors of the Viridian Wing. Labs, classrooms and everything vital to scientific learning was present here but they didn't reveal a child. It didn't help that they were sometimes forced to disrupt classes, things slowed down as the IA shuffled students out of the searchers' way. The only thing of note that turned up was near the Medical Cold Storage section: the clothes that Tollan was reported to have been wearing when he disappeared.

After breaks had passed, Taysin's little team of thinkers were gathered in the Infirmary once more, the IA still conducting fruitless searches. The Eídisi sat on one of the empty beds, her helpers ranged around her while she stared into space. "I don't understand it. He's definitely here. There were witnesses although they were tricky to turn up but they've confirmed that no one saw him leave. Besides, he's naked. Where could he have gone naked? Especially with no one to see him," she pointed out, thinking aloud for the benefit of the others. She looked to Amaris, Virikai, Leeloo, others. "Where could he hide?" she questioned in Common before voicing the same question in Xanthea.

Shortly after she finished her speech, the IA agent as close to despair as they were likely to see her, that a group of people burst into the Infirmary. Some bore a small body that they'd struggled to keep warm, talking to her constantly in an effort to keep her awake. With them came Yorrick and Linika with Devin sure to be trailing behind unless he'd simply decided to go home. Yorrick would help guide Linika to the necessary medical personnel before making a beeline to his colleague, a rapid exchange of information taking place under their breath as they filled each other in. He passed something on that made Taysin's eyebrows scale her forehead, shooting an incredulous look in the Naer's direction.

The Naer would be ushered behind a screen for privacy so she could peel off her wet clothes before being provided with plenty of warm blankets and fluids. If she chose, she could fight her way to rejoin those searching for the boy or she could get to the girl's side where her own treatment could continue.

"I don't understand how she didn't freeze and your boy, he has to still be here. If he went outside, this is one of the few places in the city where he'd find snow. He'd be at risk of hypothermia within no time at all. Do you think someone is hiding him for some reason?" Yorrick asked Taysin aloud, looking to the others in the group as if expecting input from them.

The Eídisi shook his head. "There's nowhere for him to hide. We've even had certain agents - the ones with permission - searching the restricted levels. Every space, big or small has been checked, no matter how unlikely. The only places we haven't looked are the experimental tanks and the cadavers. There's no way he could survive in either of those places. He'd drown in one or melt, depending on which tanks you checked and he'd die of cold in storage. It's cold enough in there to stop the medical bodies from discomposing and the boy has no clothes. Even clothed, he wouldn't stand much chance," she explained briskly, shaking her head.

"I can't understand it. He can't have simply disappeared!" she groaned.

"Do any of you have any theories?" Yorrick asked those assembled.

NPCs

Taysin
Race: Eídisi
Age: 55
Skills: Leadership - Expert
Investigation - Expert
Intelligence - Expert
Hunting - Competent
Rhetoric - Competent
Linguistics - Competent
Languages: Common (Fluent), Xanthea (Conversational), Rakahi (Broken)
Marks: Xypha - Adored

A senior investigator within the Intelligence Authority, Taysin doesn't deal with typical matters of law and order. She doesn't investigate petty crime but is instead typically given the job of keeping an eye on those from potential problem races (Ithecal, Naerrik, etc.) and suspicious individuals. Her job isn't simply surveillance however, as she also tracks down items that have been smuggled into the city.

Taysin may come across as quite haughty to those that she deems as being lesser races but she will show a warmer demeanour to those who prove their intelligence to her either through words or deeds. She is a good communicator who is quite determined to have her own opinion heard but who will also do her best to hear as many points of view as she can when considering a dilemma.
Yorrick Farrow
Race: Human
Age: 32
Skills: Investigation - Expert
Intimidation - Expert
Intelligence - Competent
Empathy - High Competent
Unarmed Combat (Mixed Martial Arts) - Competent
Persuasion - Competent

Yorrick is a quiet, aloof-seeming man. He's a man of few words and when he does speak, it's usually wise to pay attention to him because he's considered his words very carefully indeed. He spends more time watching others, observing both physical body language and his target's Tangle. He is has a scholarly curiosity about the emotions of others but he doesn't take pleasure in playing with them although he considers it necessary. Yorrick works with the IA and typical work involves calming suspects and making them cooperative, gaining a sense of the Videnese population's satisfaction levels and supporting his colleagues where necessary.
Gara Vraskai qalar-Treid
Race: Ellune
Skills: Socialisation - Expert
Endurance - Expert
Strength - Competent
Detection - Competent
Intimidation - Novice
Languages: Leni (Fluent), Common (Conversational)

A history student from Oscillus, Gara is quiet and thoughtful, ready to help those that she perceives as being in need. At 8 foot tall with skin that typically appears frosted, the black haired woman may appear rather intimidating but like many of her race, she is a gentle giant. She is naturally inquisitive and has decent observation skills.

She aided Leeloo when she was escaping from her master and gave her a place to stay.

Objectives

Tick tock, time's running out. I'm thinking that this freedom thing is going well, especially as I'm pretty sure that there's only going to be 3 or 4 posts more from me. If you handle things incredibly quickly, it might come down to 2 but we'll see. At this point, your choices make a fair bit of difference and with the increase in pace, I don't want to cramp anyone's style so play it safe or go wild, it's up to you!

Posting Rules

I will be posting again in one week on 20th June. You must post once between now and then. Any additional posts will be deleted. Missing a turn will have IC consequences, even if that means that you do not gain the advantages of others in your group.

Please do not control the NPCs unless you are given explicit permission to do so.

Complete the must do objectives or suffer the (IC) consequences.

There is no posting order. Respect the other players and have fun!

Consequences

United as Outcasts: In an unexpected twist, Linika has allied herself with Elyne and seems ready to go against everyone else. Given her current behaviour, it is very much expected that she will adopt her. There are potential consequences, both positive and negative, and not necessarily in the ways you might expect. How you proceed next will determine the outcome.
You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat It: Devin chose to try to get everything he could out of the situation and thus, abandoned the girl in order to seek the stone. As a result, he has ruined all hope of being trusted with the child again and has lost respect from the others in his party.

By the time Virikai trailed after Taysin into the Viden Infirmary, he was tired, frustrated, and closer to believing the whole thing to be a ruse. A man of limited patience, the Talius scion hadn’t expected the venture to be simple, but he certainly hadn’t expected to have to scour every lecture theatre and laboratory within the Viridian Wing for a child. It was this skepticism and dissatisfaction that caused an unconscious spike in his gifted abilities from Yvithia. Returning to the room, he became keenly aware of voices echoing in his mind.

Whispers, shouts, moans, anything and everything. He didn’t.. what? And Taysin was speaking to him, well... to all of them. Her lips were moving, at least, though he could hear half-formed ideas and plans amidst the spoken word. Each idea brushed aside before Virikai could truly latch onto it. Blinking rapidly, he rubbed at his temples and stepped away, there to see the other Agent, Yorr-something or other, walking past, and then heard his voice, though his lips certainly weren’t moving. What was happening to him? Was Yvithia aiding him in some way?

Linika was a Xyph. Yes, that he knew. He saw an image of the water logged outcast’s make-up dripping down her face before a... respectful? Agent offered her something to cover it up again. So her secret was out, but how? The thoughts of others were forcing what he wanted to see and hear aside, and with no control over the torrenting cacophony in his mind he could do little more than try to catch Linika’s eye as she was jostled past him. He made no attempt to open his own link with her again - Immortals only knew what he would end up passing on, with the whirlwind of thoughts in his mind.

Instead, he moved his fingers in rapid hand movements by his side, as subtly as he could (it wasn’t public knowledge that he was near-fluent in the language of the hated naerikk race), indicating his frustration, his utter disbelief at the incompetency of everyone around him, and his hope - yes, hope, that Linika had had more luck. What a world, where Virikai Talius actually wished well on the pariah.

Waiting for a moment to see if he got a response, Virikai then turned back to the leader of his own group. “The Viridian Wing is...” he trailed off and closed his eyes, counting to three as he breathed deeply, willing the voices to stop. The moans were the worst, he reasoned, as he began to understand what was happening. They were right at the doors of the Infirmary, where the weak and up injured could not escape their own pain, so Virikai would have no reprieve either. “Apologies. The Wing is never without students or academics. Anywhere left unattended would be locked. Unless we are dealing with a mastermind larcenist, the child has been missed...

When Yorrick joined them, the scion’s eyebrow shot up, as he heard and understood more than the rest of the group would. The Facility, that had been searched... why, by Yvithia’s name, would they waste time down there? Annelies and he were here because they were certain the child wasn’t down in Viden’s medical underworld. And what child could manage to get down there, unaided, even by accident?

Then something occurred to him. They had been assuming the children had run away, but there was nothing so say something else was at work. “You have found the girl? Where? We thought the children had run away together. If the boy was not with the girl, then perhaps we should check these two places. We have not yet ruled out a third party.” A far higher chance of him being there than in the Facility, after all, he passed on to Taysin privately, probably amidst hundreds of other garbled thoughts. His attempts at a rebuking tone in his silent message was probably lost for this reason.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Image

The unreliable and completely irresponsible weirdo cast one last glance at Elyne, and then he left. Once the others were out of sight, he quickened his pace because he probably didn’t have a lot of time, and they’d notice that he’d gone missing before long. He half expected somebody to stop him and ask him where he was going, but nothing of that sort happened, and soon he slipped into the shed where he had seen the stone, breathing a huge sigh of relief as he did so. The blue cloth was still in place. He quickly hurried over to it, yanked it away and began to dig his prize out. It was bigger than he had thought at first – and ….

Why was it so warm? He had expected it to be as cold as ice, considering the temperatures that were barely bearable, but it felt as if he were holding a miniature furnace in his hands, and it seemed to grow warmer with each passing trill. Sweat began to bead on his forehead. Soon he didn’t simply feel warm anymore, but hot and kind of faint, as if he had been lying in the sun too long. He quickly slipped the stone into a pocket of his coat. He abruptly stopped sweating. Furrowing his brow, he stuck his hand into his pocket again and let it brush against the stone for a moment. He immediately began to feel warm again.

Apparently, he realized, he had just found a magic item! He had no idea how valuable exactly it was, but it was probably pretty valuable. Maybe he should just take it and leave instead of fighting Linika and Yorrick over Elyne (and her friend who was probably dead anyway). With the money he would get for the stone he would probably be able to get himself a dozen apprentices! With that thought in mind he untangled himself from the heap only to suddenly find himself facing a man. He was a rather nice-looking man, with long dark hair and rugged features and young instead of practically on the brink of retirement like Yorrick. He raised an eyebrow questioningly, and then he smiled at him.

“Of course I know that they found the girl! In fact, I was the one who led them to her. They don’t need my services anymore though”, he informed him and followed him over to the fishing nets. He had abruptly lost interest in grumpy old Yorrick, Linika, the traitor and their friend Gara who could talk even though she was supposed to be mute. He had found somebody so much more interesting, and when he found somebody or something interesting, no matter if it was a man, a woman, an animal or an object, he occasionally forgot everything else.

“I think I need a drink now”, he told him. “It was quite an adventure, and dangerous, too! Do you want to come with me?” he asked. “I could use a bit of company after all this!”

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

It was difficult to hide the embarrassment Linika felt at having failed to realize the exposure of her Xypha mark. It was perhaps even more difficult to come to terms with the genuine thanks she felt toward Yorrick for wrapping his own scarf around her head to help conceal it again. All she could really do was nod, though it may have gone unnoticed amidst her shivering.

It was very nearly an obligation to deny the support he then offered. He was, after all, a human male! But his astonishment was strangely satisfying, and she honestly did not think she could make it to the infirmary from there. She may have chuckled at Yorrick's incredulous look, but with all her shivering, she could not be sure.

“I suspect I am as much a novelty to Her as anything else.” Linika did not bother clarifying who she meant. “Last arc I did something to help...” She suddenly realized that she was not sure how she wanted to refer to Audrae anymore. “...the...one you would expect me to be loyal to; and I guess it helped your queen just as much.”

It surprised her as well that she noticed no compulsion to sneer those last few words either. “Anyway, after...a...bit of an ordeal, she said she respected my loyalty but wanted to redeem me.” Again, no urge to heap disdain upon the idea. She did not go on though. Having no real idea what level of security Yorrick enjoyed, it would not be prudent to declare her primary role as a lure to malcontents and subversives, who would undoubtedly see a naer as a likely willing partner in crime.

But there was no difficulty putting bitterness in her voice as she did allow one detail, “But it has made me a pariah to my own. So please don't view it some undeserved favor. I was already an exile, but now I've had an assassination attempt made on me by my own sisters, who now view me as a traitor.”

They reached the Infirmary, and even as Yorrick was being unnecessarily “helpful” in guiding her around a facility she already knew like the back of her hand, she noted Virikai sending her hand gestures in her native Euthic Sign. An unexpected surge of appreciation brought just a hint of a smile to her face as she signed back 'Agreed. We found the girl. I'm going to adopt her.'

She did not wait to see if the Talius son's jaw would drop open at that last phrase, but her smile widened as she imagined it doing so as she made her way to where the Frostbite was stored. She'd made half the stock herself, and knew exactly how it was used.

Seeing to her own needs as she brought some back for Elyne, she missed much of what was said regarding the success or necessity of the search within the Infirmary itself. She brought the dose of Frostbite back, proposing to administer it to Elyne right then and there. She noted the looks the eidisi woman was sending her way.

Feeling that it was always a good idea to keep her modest Xypha skills in practice, she responded mentally. 'Yes, it's true. Now, Mr. Yorrick, if you and Miss Taysin would be so cooperative as to tell no one else, I will not feel compelled to tell the person I DO answer to that your loose lips might be at odds with whatever agenda your own queen may have in mind. Thank you for your help, Mr. Yorrick, but that will be enough.'

A bluff? Perhaps so. But she strongly suspected that Verity Talius outranked either of these two.

She went to a basin and began wringing the Cavini Cloak out. It appeared that the item was ineffective once soaked with freezing water. It really did not surprise her. It was probably not outright fire-proof either. But it had done its part to keep Elyne warm long enough for the blanket to take over.

Their search had turned up empty with the boy. Having only found his discarded clothes, which wouldn't of been a big deal to Leeloo as Tunawa rarely wore clothes themselves, except in this frozen climate they were necessary. Without his clothes the boy would freeze to death. As they regrouped and thought Leeloo heard a word that Treela had spoken. Was there a connection?

Leeloo was certain the words Treela had spoken meant something. That something could be important. Treela was smarter than Virikai and others gave her credit for. All she had to do was get someone to actually listen to the gibberish she spoke. Perhaps Taysin? Or Virikai? She doubted Virikai would want to hear anything from her at this point. But it might be the only chance to find the boy. Oh well, she'd make them listen. Carefully Leeloo judged the distance of the people and objects around her finding landing and jumping points. Once she found a route that would work, she sized it up and pounced landing and then jumping from there.

She landed on Virikai's shoulder and spoke to him, " Tol-lann! Tol-lann li-kes. Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies. Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies! Kaii, li-kes bod-dies, Tol-lann. Woork tings, bod-dies. Woork bod-dies. Wat meen? Woork bod-dies? Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies! Tink! Im-poor-tant, yes!" Leeloo was doing everything she could to make a ruckus So the group would pay attention and listen. To gain a better sound volume she crawled up onto the lordling's head, "TOL-LANN LI-KES BOD-DIES! TOL-LANN LI-KES BOD-DIES! TOL-LANN WOORK BOD-DIES!" She threw in the new words she had heard surrounding the same word word,"Stopp ee med-di cal bod-dies!" The small Tunawa lept from person to person repeating the two sentences, "Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies! "Stopp ee med-di cal bod-dies! Co-old med-di-cal bod-dies! Co-old stopp bod-dies! Tol-lann li-kes bod-dies! Tol-lann co-old bod-dies! Co-old bod-dies!" She landed back on Amaris.

She stopped her droning only when she noticed the small child that had been hurried in. Leeloo could feel their panic and it had something to do with the child. Suddenly the chatty Tunawa lost all her words. Whatever was happening she wanted to help. She could be of use! For an injured child, Leeloo would give as much of her own sap and life blood as she could.

Time was running out and their placed for looking were looking slim. With the very talkative Tunawa in their hands, they were overcome with only a faint sense of positivity - or maybe it was stronger than they thought, or were no longer used to feeling what positivity was. The mixed blood had managed to store away the bracelets in their pocket, but as of yet were not entirely sure of what they did. With the convergence of the two groups, the urgency of the situation became even more pressing.

And then there was Virikai suggesting they go to both places, but their attention - for the most part - was stolen by a very excitable Leeloo. The Tunawa bounced from one person to the next, repeating the same words she had said when Amaris had held her before. There obviously had to be some significance to them, otherwise the creature would not be so compelled to speak them out so frantically. "I think...it might be in our best interest to check the medical cold storage." It was, without a doubt, some sort of hint. Had the girl she and Virikai spoken to said this about the boy, Tollan? If so, she'd been of more help than one might expect.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Virikai had activated one of his Xypha abilities, Telesthetic Boon, and thus, the situation was more exciting for him than everyone else. If he chose to try to use Emotional Palette as well, he would find himself truly overwhelmed. As it was, there was the frequent hum and whisper of mental voices, only increasing as frustrations ran high. Snatches of Taysin's thoughts flew out into the air, the Eídisi's mind seeming to run in rapid circles that he'd find difficult to follow although he would catch the drift: she was puzzling things through.

It would become rather difficult to concentrate on any one mental voice when Leeloo began to jump around, her mental voice a little crazed as it moved from place to place. When she initially jumped from Amaris to land on Virikai, any sense of irritation he might feel at her intrusion would begin to ebb at the contact. Although he had previously viewed her rather disparagingly as the tree, he would find it difficult not to see her as a friend and that the Tunawa had to have certain positive qualities. However, what those positive qualities might be wouldn't be certain; he would have to discover them for himself. Regardless, he would find his mind turned more positively to her than before.

All who she touched, no matter their previous opinions of the little plant, would find themselves positively disposed to her... for as long as she was in physical contact with them at least. After that, they could feel what they liked and they might not feel too kindly disposed towards her while she was screaming at the top of her lungs, parroting nonsense in a parody of Common that made Taysin cringe. She frowned all the time that the Tunawa hollered although she didn't comment on it, not until after Yorrick had come.

The return of the other party would cause a spike in the mental babble around Virikai, making the lordling feel a little light-headed, overwhelmed by what was happening around him.

So many thoughts.

Too many thoughts.

For those who paid attention, they might see him sway a little on his feet. Taysin did not, more interested in talking to Yorrick, breaking contact with one of her agents so she could switch back to him. However, she was taken by surprise when word came from Linika. Being told that the Naer was a Xypha was one thing but it was another entirely to listen to her. Her face became rigid, Yorrick's thoughts becoming a little worried. Virikai might pick up on the thought streams of either one, the indignation of Taysin and the quiet distress of Yorrick. He tentatively touched her Tangle, gaining a sense of what was going on in there before he drew back with a grimace, too close to a headache to interfere now. Instead, he set a hand on her arm to calm her.

Come here, Naer! Taysin mentally snapped at her, her eyes fixed on Linika.

"Taysin, the Naerrik has earned her place. You must know this or she wouldn't be... you know," the male IA agent murmured to his colleague. It didn't do anything to make her hackles go down although it did stop her focusing too intensely on the Naerrik. Instead, she moved forward to pluck up the Tunawa.

"What was she talking about? Do any of you know? Lord Virikai? You were with her. She can't speak Common but she can repeat what she's heard and maybe... she understands enough," Taysin murmured, turning her gaze to Amaris, not even noticing when she had to look up. "You think she has a point as well. The medical cold storage, do you think it's a viable option? With no clothing? He's not Ellune."

Her brows pulled together, glancing towards the girl before she nodded. "There's no harm in checking, even if it does seem illogical. Virikai, Amaris, Leeloo... Naer, come along!"

"Her name's Linika," Yorrick interjected, moving after her as she headed towards the cold storage unit. If Taysin heard him, she ignored him. With a sigh, he turned his attention to Virikai instead to answer his question. "If they ran away together, they might well have split up. We found her in a little storage shed. No sign of anyone else. What's this about the boy not having clothes? How can he be in the cold without clothes? Surely, he should be- oh dear, that'd be unfortunate if he was... deceased."

It took a few bits for them to reach their destination. When they reached the appropriate door, Taysin pushed it open, revealing the second entrance. In the short space between doorways it was already noticeably cooler but when she opened the main one, the cold was enough to make their breath fog, adding to the mistiness in the air. She shuffled in, light frost crunching underfoot. Bodies seemed neatly stacked on shelves in all shapes and sizes and conditions. They were carefully wrapped up to protect them from frost damage, each a ghostly white silhouette beneath cloth. There were more of them than might have been anticipated and it might not be easy to spot the odd one out, the living among the dead. Some of them were stacked quite high so that the highest shelves could only be checked with the aid of a step.

"By Yvithia, there are scores of them. How many corpses can you need?" Yorrick commented, hands buried in his pockets as he shivered. It might be necessary to grab some more layers or they could simply stick it out, try to endure the chill.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

At Yorrick's response to Taysin's order that she immediately drop what she was doing and heel like a dog, Linika found herself warming to the man. This time, though, she kept her snarky remarks in check and simply announced her intent to stay with Elyne, as if Taysin's command had somehow not registered.

She did allow just a bit of belligerence into the gaze she levelled toward the eidisi woman, "I am going to keep check on Elyn's recuperation. She may have more information once she's recovered." Taysin returned the favor of pretending she hadn't heard by ordering "naer" to "come along". Linika let it roll off her to the extent that she only bit back with the suggestion that the party "Go on ahead. I'll be along shortly."

The line between their eyes could have probably thawed the corpses in the Medical Cold Storage area, but it worked well enough for Linika to have some private time with Elyne. As she waited for signs of the body's return to normal temperature, she began to speak with Elyne. This was as much to keep her conscious as it was to gain any information she might have.

"I'm so glad we got you here. I'm going to take care of you now. The rest have gone on to try to find ...Tollan? wasn't his name?.. They say they found his clothes..." she shook her head, "..but I don't really see how he can hope to survive if he has no clothes on. Did he tell you he was going to get other clothes? I mean, I didn't see any change of clothes for you, in the ship, or the shed. You weren't going to throw yours away, were you?"

Elyne twitched just a bit; enough to make Linika think the questions were making her uncomfortable. "Oh, I'm sorry honey. I didn't mean to upset you. Forget I asked anything. After all, He's half eidisi, I think they have much more resistance to the cold." Linika knew perfectly well that it was the ellune, not the eidisi, that had this trait. But if the child corrected her, it might lead to more. And if that fell through, she could always default to claiming she got the race names confused.

She saw some color returning as she made some small talk, but it looked to blanche just a bit when she said they were going to look in the cold storage area. Whether it was truly indicative of some concern on the part of the little girl or not, Linika let a look of alarm cross her face, "Elyne, what is it? There was some clue they got that said he was in there. I suppose they'll have to search through a ton of iced-up things in there to find him."

She acted if she was on the verge of a chuckle when she instead let a sudden look of anxious realization add to the moment, "Oh! You don't want them to find him, do you? You're worried about this 'disappearing' thing, aren't you?" Her brows narrowed as she paced just a bit. "You know, they'll probably resort to some kind of magic to detect him among whatever else is in there. Unless there's someone else helping him."

She knelt beside the gurney Elyne had been placed upon, bringing her head to the same level and whispering intently. "Sweetheart, I can help. If you know something, if you're afraid they'll find him there. I can make a distraction, go in there shouting that I saw him running down the hall to one of the other wings. They'll believe me. And I can stay back as they go running off. I'll tell them I'm still hypother-...uh...still suffering from the cold. Then when they're gone, I'll get you both out of here."

She waited a few trills, "Honey, do you know where he is?"
