Storyteller Team

A Storyteller's main focus is on what the name suggestions: the story. Storytellers are very important to the functionality of Standing Trials and the overall plotline driving the site. These moderators mostly handle city moderation and structure, building and updating lore, calendars, locations, approving jobs and wage requests, approving city development requests and sponsoring, planning, and completing moderated threads. They review threads, plan and lead global plotlines, participate in Immortal meetups with characters, and organize city events. Another responsibility of a Storyteller is to maintain player interest. Storytellers play one of the most critical roles as they are the energy that inspires players to write and remain with us.

As Storytellers progress in seniority, more responsibilities become accessible should you wish to apply for them. These responsibilities are purely at request and come with the expectation that you will commit to handling and/or finishing them. If you’re not able to, then after a maximum of a month’s time, your duties will be evaluated by your Team Lead.

Below are the Storyteller ranks. These ranks are based solely off of seniority. When a moderator has reached their ‘rank up day' please remember to apply to the support forum if you’re interested in ascending to other responsibilities. Please keep in mind that the duties listed below for your rank come second to your character and first to any cross role participation. That means if you have a modded thread that’s waiting for your reply while you’re also developing a blessing with another person, the modded thread comes first.

Applications & Access: These are tasks that you can apply for in the Support Forum to take responsibility of. These are separate from the primary duties of your Storyteller role, but parallel them in many ways.

If you have a question about something not listed in the below information, please contact your Storyteller Team Lead.

Developer Team

Developers are tasked with creating, expanding and/or organizing information for world building purposes. These individuals are responsible for world development, building off of and creating meta-plots, developing history, skills, races, Immortals, blessings and curse, etc. Developers are the suppliers to Storyteller (and player) demand. They provide information for all characters to use within story and create goals for character advancements and achievements. Developers create the foundation for plot and work in tandem with Storytellers to ensure all the puzzle pieces mesh nicely. Development-oriented people normally focus on world building essentially with afterthoughts for city development.

As Developers progress in seniority, more responsibilities become accessible to them, should the individual wish to apply for them. These responsibilities are purely at request and come with the expectation that you will commit to handling and/or finishing them. If you’re not able to, then after a maximum of a month’s time, your duties will be evaluated by a Team Lead.

Advocate Team

Advocates ensure that the ship remains sailing. What this means is that the responsibilities of an Advocate align closely with community management and player & staff relations. They handle conflict mediation between staff and players, welcome new players to the site in the Welcome Wagon, review staff applications, and onboard new staff members. They review Character Sheets, manage the Q&A forum and facilitate the answering of questions coming into the forum, manage the Bugs and Suggestions Forum, make updates to the Player Guides forum, manage the player Suggestion Box and Staff Lounge suggestion thread, run advertising and social media efforts, and much more. Advocates are critical to the site as these individuals are often some of the first people a player comes across when joining. Due to the sensitive nature of the role, applications for Advocate positions will be reviewed much more closely than any other position.

Below are the Advocate ranks. These ranks are based solely off of seniority. When a moderator has reached their 'rank up day' please remember to message an admin so they may place you in the appropriate group. Please keep in mind that the duties listed below for your level come second to your character and first to any cross role participation. That means if you have a character sheet to review and a thread you’re moderating, the character sheet comes first.

Team Leads

Team Leads are individuals who have applied to become a guiding hand among their chosen team, to help train new team members, and to ensure that the actions of their team and their peers follow the guidelines set by the site’s TOU and Prophet Handbook. They look over information to make sure things correlate appropriately, set up meetings and communicate effectively.

Generally, each team will have between 1-3 Team Leads. There is no set number of Team Leads that can run a particular team, but a ‘check and balance’ system is what we ultimately want to accomplish with this.

Responsibilities

  • Team development / plot / guide approvals.
  • Drive direction and priorities for team.
  • Drive completion of “to do” list items and discussions/open questions.
  • Be involved in the selection/interview process for players who are applying for staff and want to be part of your team.
  • Advise the Advocate team when there are gaps that need to be filled on staff (ie. more storytellers are needed & where, etc).
  • Has the final say in decision-making
  • Schedule team discussions to communicate goals, activity, ideas, etc.

City Moderation Between Teams

City development and moderation is definitely possible between teams and is, at times, encouraged based on player/staff activity. Since we’re focusing on an entire world, we need as many hands as are willing.

When it comes to the city development, however, Developers and Advocates may only focus on the city from an OOC perspective if they have Storytellers situated in their area. This includes:

  • Developing locations & lore
  • Approving jobs & wages
  • Creating seasonal calendars, odd jobs, and bounty boards
  • Approving development submissions
  • Structuring and moderating the city from an OOC perspective

It is not required for Advocates or Developers to moderate a city. This is purely a responsibility that is applied for through the Prophet Support Forum.

All cities must have a Storyteller. Regardless of whether a moderator is developing a city by themselves, they are only offered a limited time to construct information (if needed) before they are requested to choose a Storyteller or one is provided to them. At no point should a city be run strictly by one non-Storyteller. This may happen only if we do not have the available staff or activity to see a Storyteller added to an area. If a city does not have a Storyteller, the Advocates or Developers are able to run moderated threads within the city (but are encouraged to find a Storyteller as soon as possible).

Overlapping Responsibilities

These activities are items that, while they may technically reside under a specific team, don't need permission from that team in order for a staff member to take them on. Please note that these items are not required - they are simply activities that can be completed without permission from the team who is primarily responsible for them.

  • OOC moderation of the cities that you are supporting
  • Reviewing threads
  • Updating the wiki
  • Responding to questions in the Q&A and Bugs & Suggestions forums
  • Welcoming new players in the Welcome Forum
  • Providing feedback on development items (including but not limited to CTW items, blessings, Immortals, player guides, staff guides, magic, etc) [Note: This is optional. Not everyone is required to provide their feedback before development items are approved and go live.]
  • Advertising the site & recruiting players
  • Contributing suggestions for social media posts

FAQ

Q: I’m a Storyteller and I have an idea for a blessing. Even though I’m not a Developer, can I still develop it?
A: Yes, though you will need to partner up with the Developer who is listed as having ‘claimed’ development of the blessing in question. This information can be found in the Developers’ Section. If no one has laid claim to the development of the blessing, you should seek out a Developer to partner up with to develop it. If there is no one able to join you in development of the project, please let us know when you submit the request to work on the blessing in the Support Forum.

Q: How do I know who my Team Lead is?
A: Team Leads are listed on the Staff List and in the Staff Guide to Staff.

Q: Can there be multiple Team Leads?
A: Yes.

Q: I’m a Rank 2 Advocate and I like where I’m at, but I qualify for the next Rank. Do I have to apply for it and move up?
A: No, you do not have to apply for the next Rank within your team if you are happy with where you are right now.

Q: Can I still moderate a city if I’m a Developer or Advocate?
A: Yes! You’ll need to apply for the permission to moderate a city in the Prophet Support Forum.
