Volunteer Applications and Guidelines

Overview

So, you’ve been playing on Standing Trials and enjoy it enough that you want to contribute? Awesome! We have two volunteer roles available that offer greater contribution for the site as a whole, but don’t have the same requirements as staff. These roles are Peer Reviewer and Wiki Worker.

Peer Reviewers (PR) are… part of an active team that volunteers to grade roleplay threads primarily, with optional tasks as listed below.

Wiki Workers (WW) are… part of an active team that volunteers to organize and migrate information and data to the wiki, and generally make the wiki a more welcoming, presentable, and lore-correct set of documents. Wiki workers are also encouraged to take on minor PSF support roles where they can, and optional tasks as listed below.

Both of these roles also have enhanced options to provide in-depth support and be involved with some discussions that involve the site’s direction.

Here are some things that both Peer Reviewers and Wiki Workers can be involved in:

  • Character Sheet (CS) Approvals
  • Prophet Support Forum (PSF) support
  • Guest Storytelling (GST)
  • Create the World (CtW) development
  • Approving Wealth Requests
  • Approving Point Bank Requests

A Note on Development: Our volunteers are able to request the opportunity to develop aspects of our site not normally open to non-staff. However, this is not a guarantee and any development will be subject to a very rigorous approval process.

A Note on the Discord Chat: Membership in Staff Chat is a privilege, not a right of any peer reviewer or wiki worker. You may be removed from chat at any time for toxic, negative, or otherwise bad behavior.

Becoming a Peer Reviewer

A Peer Reviewer’s role in the site is an important one, the very thing that keeps the roleplaying game side of the site vital and progression ongoing. As a Peer Reviewer, it’s up to you to approve aspects of player progression involving skills, xp, and just overall character development. It’s also required that you understand what’s going on in the story you are reviewing, and that the story elements in whatever thread you are reviewing doesn’t contradict site lore.

Being a Peer Reviewer is ideal for those who have a critical eye for detail, and a willingness to work with other volunteers to make certain that the threads and stories approved on the site are appropriate to the setting, lore, and spirit of the rules. It’s also fun to read stories that our members cook up and to give meaningful commentary on it.

Peer Reviewers are expected to check in with staff every once in a while, or when they’re having an issue with a particular thread they’re reviewing where they’re unsure if the rules are being followed or the lore upheld through the narrative of the story.

Requirements

It is important that you have gained enough experience to apply to become a Peer Reviewer. The staff at Standing Trials requires that you have completed these goals:

  • Remain an active member of the site for two months
  • Have eight completed and reviewed threads, either collaborative or solo threads
  • Have no outstanding warnings with the staff and a good track record
  • Openly communicate with staff to constructively and positively resolve any review issues.
  • Have at least one current staff member willing to vouch for you with a Recommendation in the Prophet Support Forum (PSF)

Activity Requirements

We understand that life happens and sometimes there might be times when you are unable to give time to Peer Reviewing. If that is the case we ask that you let us know and we will discuss with you what would be best for all concerned. This does not impact your ability to return to Peer Reviewing, should you decide to leave / take a break. .

Peer Reviewers who have not been active for three months - or whose activity has been very minimal - without discussing / notifying of absence will be removed. This will impact your ability to return and, should you wish to do so, we will require a further two months of activity from you.

Becoming a Wiki Worker

A Wiki Worker's role on the site is an important one, as they work with the foundation of our knowledge base - the wiki. As a Wiki Worker you will work within a team on specific projects.

The Wiki Workers tend to have two or three projects at any one time. The Wiki Worker gets information on to the wiki - everything from resources, to the individual City Wikis.

Being a Wiki Worker is ideal for those who enjoy working with lore, and have the ability to work in a team and focus on specific tasks. Wiki Workers are expected to maintain activity and to regularly update the staff on the progress of what they are doing.
