Aespa

Appearance

A short, willowy frame supports the mind of Aespa, shoulder-length auburn hair framing her face. The young girl holds a vibrant green stare, so filled with the curiosity that has fueled her delving into the discipline of necromancy. Perhaps, if one looks deeper, they would find a shadow, a darkness that comes with the constant, grisly sight of the dead, though it is deeply submerged if present at all. For a teenager, Aespa's appearance is remarkably presentable, her attire neat and usually unsoiled by dirt or grime. The notable exception would be the girl's fingernails, which at times may show very slight signs of dried blood or dirt.

Pictures to be added.

Aespa

Personality

Stolen away from her family from a young age, Aespa was groomed, steered into a direction by people who she has never met. Driven into the care of a cold, distant caretaker, Aespa is allotted a measure of freedom, primarily from the chores that a girl her age would normally be assigned. However, this very same freedom is driven away by the studies that the Coven has administered upon her. A child's curiosity has been warped and twisted, turning into a profane fascination with that which has passed from the world. The dead enthrall the young necromancer, just as she continues to learn to enthrall the dead. Fear of the dead has long passed from the girl's mind, instead seeing corpses merely as bodies to be lifted from the earth and controlled. Where another would learn to play with dolls and toys, Aespa learned instead to see the world in an entirely different perspective. The fate of the Orphaned has taken hold in the child, her true personality suppressed as ideals and information has been thrust upon her. Talking to Aespa reveals a very intelligent girl, an inquisitive spirit drawn out and intensified, bringing into being a child who craves secrets, adores facts, but above all (and ironically), she despises untruths and woven lies.

Traits and Quirks

Honesty - Aespa is an honest child by nature, and when she is otherwise incapable of telling the truth (be it through promise or simple ignorance), she will simply forgo speaking and shake her head until the subject is changed.

Stubborn - In all regards of Aespa's life, she is stalwart and steadfast. She seeks to solve one problem at a time, and if unable, she refuses to move on, instead searching in vain for a solution.

Curiosity - Beaten into the child throughout her short life, Aespa has fostered a powerful curiosity that drives the child into furthering her knowledge of the world. This knowledge has since been harnessed by her caretaker and channeled into the crafty discipline of Necromancy.

Patience - When in a nurturing environment, such as a lesson from her caretaker, Aespa proves to be incredibly patient, finding it easy to stay still for hours at a time, so long as she is told the reason behind such stillness.

Aespa

History

Once, perhaps, Aespa had been the adored child of a young family. Perhaps the girl had once received the gentle guidance of a parent, prodded towards an ordinary education. However, the life that Aespa could no longer remember with any sort of clarity was long behind her. All that continues to linger is an echo, a residual parental influence upon the child's impressionable mind, shown only by the name that she chooses to keep. Aespa. A name better left forgotten, rarely used and scarcely heard. Only when the child is alone does she utter it, a rare occurrence in it of itself. However, forgotten words and abandoned memories hide beneath the surface of young Aespa's mind, enclosed by an arcane influence that the child is perhaps aware of. But, would she choose to break it if she could?

Probably not.

A peek into the past... Location: A road leading towards from the city of Yaralon.

"Aespa?" The name was spoken with a pained groan, laboured breathing cutting through the air as the child's gaze darted furiously. Aespa had no idea what was going on. The world had turned over, horses whinnying madly before skittering off. A carriage lay on its side, Aespa's form stuck beneath a heavy pile of luggage as the breathing was cut short, replaced by a sickening crunch and punctuated by a quiet groan. Aespa struggled beneath the weight pinning her down, shifting her body in an attempt to wrest herself from the unyielding grasp of gravity as the footsteps started anew. There had been, at first, only one set, yet... several more seemed to have arisen. Several hands grasped next at the body of the carriage that had transported Aespa and her mother, the child seeking to rise from her position, yet still unable until the carriage shifted. Weight loosed from Aespa's form, the child's small frame shuffled about the carriage as the entire structure was moved, a foul stench permeating into the carriage's space. Bile welled in Aespa's throat, the stench bringing small tears to the corner of her eyes. Smack. The shifting had been too sudden, and before Aespa could react, the side of her head made contact with the carriage's seat. The world around Aespa went dark, and she saw no more.

Had hours passed? Or days? Aespa had no grasp of the passage of time, yet when she awoke, she was on the road again. A different carriage greeted Aespa's gaze as she cast it about, searching for the woman who had birthed her, but hope did not exist there. She'd heard the noise, after all. Mommy's... dead. Tears stung at Aespa's eyes, blurring her vision as hands balled into fists. Raising them to her lips, she screamed into her hands, biting into the knuckle of her right hand. However, just as quickly, her vision began to swim. Feelings arose within her, sensations that she couldn't quite understand. A powerful presence invaded her, and as the tears were blinked away, Aespa looked up to find a hooded figure immediately in front of her. To the figure's right, there was a woman, young looking, though with hollow eyes, her skin pale and blackened very slightly beneath the eyes, as if she were plagued with insomnia. But, Aespa didn't care. She couldn't muster the desire to investigate the matter, shaking her head as she hid her face from both figures. However, the hooded figure did not relent. A hand stretched forth, cupping beneath Aespa's jaw and forcing the child to look up as words began to fill the carriage. Aespa's eyes became heavy, her eyes half-open as the words continued to flow. Faces materialized within Aespa's mind, images blurring, fading entirely, replaced and expunged as thoughts seemed to weave into her brain of their own accord. "Mother...?" she called out, looking towards the stranger, a weary smile manifested upon her features as she fell forward, into the woman's lap.

The next day... in a small inn's room. Location: unknown.

"Child, it is time to begin your education."

Aespa heard her mother speaking, the voice different than she recalled, but the eyes that looked upon her were all too familiar. She looked tired, she always did, yet a single mother's life was not one of respite.

"Education?" she asked, a small smile beginning to form upon the girl's features. Mother had always been teaching her. What was different now?

"Yes, my child. You are to learn to tap into a power that few could even begin to understand.A new world of understanding will be yours to tap into. For that is the greatest gift your 'mother' can give to you." A smile materialized upon mother's expression as she spoke, Aespa nodding as a giggle parted her lips.

"New world? Power?" Mother was always cryptic, but for once, such language caught young Aespa's attention.

"Yes, child. Now come, your learning is to begin now."

A year passes, the Lich Tesya taking the identity of Aespa's adopted mother in stride. Never did the girl ask what her mother's fate was, for in her mind, it simply was, a life unchanged from what she had been living before. Attunement had come naturally to the inquisitive child, Aespa taking to the understanding of arcana and the human body. As her understanding of Attunement grew, Teysa began to challenge Aespa's talents, her tutelage intensifying in difficulty as the discipline of Necromancy was brought into the fray.

Location: On the road, heading north towards the city of Viden.

"Where'd you find it?" she asked, looking to the bundle situated across the carriage. Mother was seated next to Aespa. There was no smile set upon her features, the necromancer shaking her head as she clarified, "I procured it, my child. A body found is liable to be laden with defects, and acquiring what one needs is much simpler if one has control over the entire process. In any case, show me what you have learned." Mother never said Aespa's name anymore. But, Aespa wasn't bothered. Mother obviously loved her, and she worked hard to make sure Aespa would never have to feel powerless. Or feel alone. A smile materialized upon the young sorceress' lips as she looked to Mother, nodding.

"Of course," she made her way out of the carriage, grounding herself before pulling on the bagged body. With effort, Aespa brought the bagged form to the ground, reaching into her pocket to take the knife that Mother loaned her. Splitting the packaging open, the corpse of a child no older than Aespa herself presented itself. The child let a curious expression set upon her lips as a hand moved to trail along the jawline of the body beneath her. Stretched over the body as she worked to unwrap the bagging completely. Hands pulled, Aespa dragging forward until eventually, the body was freed from its trappings, set on dry ground as the young sorceress began her work.

Crafted just the day before, Aespa held on to the nexus that she had created. Fingers played at the brooch she treasured so dearly, the conduit that Tesya has given to her clinging to the worn fibers of the girl's shirt until the time came for Aespa to begin the process of raising the corpse. A hand held tightly to the knife, the tip piercing into the flesh of the boy's torso. Here, she was decidedly careful. However, she wasn't strong enough to ensure a proper cut, several jagged slashes at last opening the corpse's chest cavity to the young sorceress. The tip of the knife pierced next into the rotting flesh of the child's heart, Aespa choosing the capillaries there to insert the nexus. Already bonded to Aespa's conduit, the girl was ready. "I can do this..." she spoke quietly, hoping that Mother wouldn't hear...

"I can do this..." she spoke louder, a small smile building upon her features. Eyes closed as Aespa began to focus. She delved into her connection to the arcana that surrounded her. She held her brooch in her hand as she focused, willing Arcana to flow, guided by her and swept through her conduit, surging next through a connection. Arcana welled, an image of a body bathed for a moment in light cast within the sorceress' mind until she began to will the fallen body. However, bridging the connection was not so simple. She tried harder, hands moving to the boy's chest, fingers clumsily working to seal the wounds that she had created. A mockery of stitching, loose and flimsy by nature. Minutes, if not tens of minutes, passed as the sorceress continued the mundane reparation of the body, her mind seeking to form the connection needed. Fingers poked repeatedly by clumsy needlework, Aespa ignored the pain, her eyes opening as her fingers flexed, the young sorceress invoking her will upon the corpse of the child before her. Moments passed in silence until at last...

"Rise."

The command rung clear as in Aespa's mind's eye, she willed for the body to flex its rotting muscles, arms rising, then immediately pressing their hands to the ground. Bent elbows work to unfold, the body rising to its feet as Aespa looked at the form. The body seemed to lean to one side, as if unable to support all of its weight on a certain leg. However, it remained balance, Aespa using her fingers to mime the motion of walking as the corpse turned its form, taking several paces forward. Clearly limping, it wasn't long before the corpse fell to the ground once more, struggling at Aespa's command to rise again until...

"Enough."

Immediately, Aespa stopped, looking back to mother with a curious expression.

"I'm sorry! I should be doing better..." she murmured, shaking her head in frustration.

"Nonsense. You made the boy stand. That was all I sought after. Yet... he walked, as well. How resourceful, Aespa."

The rare usage of the girl's name brought a grin to her features, Aespa nodding twice before Teysa pointed back to the body. "However, you'll need to keep in mind that the heart is rarely a good location for the nexus. Above the musculature or within bone are the options that result in better synchronization with the body. However, we've done enough today. Viden awaits."

Viden. Aespa's new home. The girl nodded, leaving the corpse behind and moving back into the carriage as a new city came to mind, Mother's voice hazy as the child sorceress began to feel her eyes growing heavy... "Sleeep..." she called out, falling onto Mother's lap as the world turned dark.

Fin.

Aespa and Teysa's journey began with manipulation and continues in Viden, a city where the manipulated Orphan will call her home as Teysa's plans for the child she had abducted unfold with her education. Why Viden? Why Aespa? The girl would never know or even think to ask such questions blindly following the Lich who she believed to be her adopted parent, unaware even of the being's true nature.

Relationships

Teysa - "Mother"

Image
Name: Teysa
Marks: None.
Age: 74 arcs.
Race: Lich (Appearance is that of a human.)

Bio/Pertinent Information: Born in Viden, Teysa was one of the first Orphaned to be stolen away to Ellasin's whims. Tutored by the Necromantress herself for a number of arcs, the woman quickly absorbed the knowledge that the Necromantress imparted upon her. However, lacking in the proper discipline to act as an information broker, Ellasin instead opted for the woman to take a different path. A quick blade to the heart ended Teysa's life, though in the moments of her demise, Ellasin rose her soul from death itself, thrusting it into a pendant of the necromantress' design and rendering Teysa into a lich. With eternity at Teysa's hand, Ellasin sent her to, as Ellasin had done to her, fetch a child from the world and bring a new Orphaned into the Coven. Finding Aespa was simple enough, though rearing a child is a different task altogether...

Relationship to Aespa: Aespa staunchly believes that Teysa is her adopted mother. Nearly two years in the Lich's company has gleaned little in terms of the woman's true identity, though Aespa finds in the rare moments of intimacy with her "Mother", that she's so very cold... Almost like a corpse. Yet, mother couldn't be dead, could she? Mother, after all, speaks and teaches like the living... Suspicions fester underneath it all, however Aespa and her twisted love for her caregiver keep her blissfully ignorant and she's too focused on her studies to give anything else too much thought.
