26th of Ymiden, 717, Early Morning
The sun had risen over the Hotlands, and it's light glinted off spearheads, armor, and shields as the forces of Nashaki and The Eternal Empire arranged to do battle once more. The Imperials had made it to the very entrance of the Northern Reaches Fortress and had begun their siege. They had weakened the barriers at the entrance with the help of several independent contractors among the nomads and such that had been willing to strike at Nashaki for a variety of reasons, whether that be plunder, revenge, or a chance to endear themselves to the Imperials.
The force that would be storming the gates was a combination of Imperial forces and these independent contractors, including the leader of one of the stronger forces that had previously fought against the Empire as mercenaries. Apparently, he hadn't much appreciated Nashaki refusing to hold up their end of the contract, and the Empire had been willing to hire his forces for this battle, at a fixed fee plus their word that the Rhakrii Raiders would not be targeted for aiding Nashaki at the Claypan.
Nashaki also had a few independent contractors on their side in this battle, but they were mostly singular mercenaries and other the odd volunteer, whether they had willingly volunteered or not. These were spread out among the main forces, and those on the upper level had been equipped with bows if they had lacked them. The commander of the fort had already set up their two defensive cauldrons and filled them with glass that he was now heating to its melting point.
Horns sounded from the Imperials and their vanguard stormed forward. The battle had begun.
