Her actions with having disappeared from the horse once they had stopped and her clear attempts not to look at the guards only worked to make Xander believe there was something more to this woman than met the eye. At first glance she appeared nothing more than a fun and friendly sailor but her actions spoke louder than her words or appearance to him. He should have known not to judge a book by its cover, he was a good example of how that was not an accurate representation of the person within. Then again, many people were not like him and were in fact exactly what they seemed on the surface. Many nobles were empty of true depth, little more than corrupt and self centred animals, his father was the prime example and the polar opposite of Xander.
She did check he was okay though, not that he would admit his back hurt almost as much as the wounds he had got fighting the Warrick Bastard. "No, I am fine just a little bit of a bump, I have had worse." He released the sore flesh from his hand and placed it on the edge of the wagon again as they resumed movement. It appeared it was the Biqaj's turn to ask the questions now, luckily she was not asking questions that would bring out dangerous answers and not cause him to have to lie to her. He smiled and knew she was thinking it odd for him to go for jewellery, he had never even stepped inside a jewellers before. In all honesty he was going to feel completely out of place and may even end up getting persuaded into buying some random item he doesn't want.
"For my fiance, Baroness Celeste Andaris, she is to be my bride and I have yet to buy her any form of engagement gift. She is quite the lady and I know she would like something even if she says she is fine, I don't wish to buy anything fancy anyhow, just something simple and meaningful." He played with a knot in the wood as he thought about the kind of ring he was searching for, something simple, a band of metal without any precious stones. He wanted some meaning in it and he had an idea for an unfinished knot, the metal twisted and forged into the shape of an almost finished knot that would require a slight pull if it were rope to finish, something to represent the commitment he will make a knot he would need to finish.
He knew how sappy that was ans so kept it to himself, he did not wish to hassle this pleasant young woman with a silly romanticist idea. He had never cared or such things between the times of his sisters death and meeting Celeste, she had changed him a lot but yet he was still the same. He supposed it was less of a change and more of an opening up of what was inside when he was around her. When with people now he was the same as ever, charming and kind, taking time to learn about the person for both a political purpose and a friendly way. He would always have this facade up around others and it nearly always worked, he had two sides below the facade too now though. He had his appearance of a powerful and just leader and the family man that was around Celeste, although, Celeste did get to see the man who he wished would one day lead a nation to a new height.
