Waiting, it was always more waiting, Xander had waited his whole life and now Celeste suggested again that he wait. He would not live forever and nor would he have a claim over Krome forever, The people would forget his name, his face and his actions. The longer he waited to act after marrying Celeste the less support he would be able to muster, of course he understood her view of the fact that most other houses would unite against him but was that not why he met the people he did. Had he not allied himself with Hunter Gawyne and Alistair Venora to try and find a way to avoid all other sex nations opposing him. It was certainly one of the reasons he was happy to be marrying Celeste, especially before he realised how he felt about her.

Apparently he had misunderstood her questioning about their new neighbour, it appeared his mistake had irritated her. He could see it in her eyes as she backed up from him that she was frustrated and also confused. He too was unsure how to react to this all, for the first time he really did feel like the wolf pup Celeste called him. He had always been so sure of himself before she came along. "I will not say them then." His own confusion was more than evident, he could not understand what he had done to upset her. He knew women were sensitive, then again so were men, it might just have been that he had missed something.

He looked at her lost eyes, the brown hues an obvious indication to her muddled mind. Then it al became clear in the words she spoke, her response and her confusion. It was clear to him too why he felt so conflicted, since she came along he had been second guessing himself no end not to mention his wondering whether he really wanted the right thing.

"Secrets are secrets, Celeste, they are not as important as you. I can assure you that I am in control of my political affiliations with Alistair Venora. I am certainly at no risk at this current time." He moved over and sat beside her, his face was calm again and his composure returned. His mind was still foggy and muddled but he could think clearly enough now. He took her hand and gently massaged her palm. "I too never thought it possible, I didn't even believe in it and yet we have it. It is here and it is strong, strong enough to make me wonder whether what I have believed near my whole life is right." He swallowed his nerves and looked at her, straight into her deep and emotional eyes.

He took one long blink and then spoke his final absolute for the trial. "I do not think it Celeste, I know it. The truth can be hard to see, our mind can block it from surfacing and make us believe we are mad to think of it. Yet, I know deep down it is true, even when my mind tells me it is foolish to allow someone so much power over me. I think you know it too, you just have to let it be true and then we can be no stronger partnership. We could be the couple that change the whole of Rynmere, the ones to accomplish what no other has." He finished by gently kissing her wrist, his lips pressing against the veins and tendon that ran through it.

Celeste looked at Xander and she sighed, her temper apparently not making it as far as ornament throwing this time. Maybe she only did that in his home, or some such. Either way, she returned his gaze as he looked at her and she smiled at his words. It was real and it made him doubt? Maybe it did or maybe they were just words but damn him he seemed to have never spoken sweet words because they were what she wanted to hear. "We do not know each other. Yet I can not deny what I am feeling." The frown on her face told a clear story, even though her words spoke of emotions of love.

"It makes me vulnerable to you, because I am not in control of my emotions around you." She thought, in fairness, he had probably worked that out already. "I am always in control of my emotions. It is unnerving." Yet, she put her hand out and took hold of his. Listening to his words, to how he felt, her expression softened and she nodded her head. "I have grown up believing that I must manipulate the man I marry, I must outmaneuver him and ensure that he never knows it." With a soft smile, her thumb gently stroked his hand. "That does not happen when one is so angry and hurt and confused that ornaments fly. You make me feel more deeply than I have ever felt before."

Sighing, Celeste felt the slight frown on her forehead as she considered something he had said. "I don't care about Alistair Venora. He could live forever or die right now and I would not concern myself. He is of interest to me only in what use we have for him. I am concerned right now with what you just spoke. " Chewing her lower lip, Celeste seemed to consider whether to say the next words or not and, in the end, she chose to speak.

"After my mother died, my father became even more distant. My brother Peake blamed our father and my brothers Quincy and Leeson each descended into their own malaise. I just wanted to save them. Then Peake started to," she looked, for a moment, just lost. "I thought at first that he was just more protective than usual. My big brother. But it just kept escalating, Xander." With a gesture she had not made before, except when in the throes of a fever, Celeste leaned against him. "I blame myself and I am so afraid that I will let you down when we are married. What if I never can... what if I freeze?"

Her head rested against his shoulder; he could undoubtedly feel her tension, yet also he could feel the smile she gave. "So how can the man who has prompted all these feelings and for whom I want to not freeze, whose wife I want to be. How can he not believe in love?" There was a bigger question there, with a bigger answer Celeste thought. By asking it this way, though, she gave him the option to answer it honestly or more flippantly if he could not bring himself to do anything else. Maybe, she considered, she was discovering a patience she simply did not know she had with such things.

She spoke again of her family, the mess it was and how it had effected her, the actions of her foul older brother Peake. That man, if you could call someone so despicable so, had no place in their lives and even if he was alive Xander would not allow him near Celeste. The monster was gone and he needed to find a way to get Celeste to expel the thoughts and memories of him from her mind. To do what he could not with the memories and the crippling pain he felt when he thought of his sister. "That monster was slain Celeste, he was crushed by something mightier and he cannot harm you now. You must try to expel the memories of him from your mind, block out the pain he caused and still causes you." Xander held her close as she leaned against him.

"Peake has no place in our lives, we will not allow him to affect you any more and I will help you to get him out of that head of yours." Xander cupped her cheek in his hand and ran his thumb over the soft skin of her face. Her head was warm on his chest, it reminded him of when he had lay with her during the sickness. The days when he had barely slept from fear and worry, feeling her light breathing and her slow pulse then had been a time of pure sadness. Now though, having her close felt different. He felt happier with her there in his arms and he was sure that he was lucky to have found himself marrying her. Funny how time could change perspective.

He took a deep breath, Celeste's head rising and falling as he did so, it was a difficult conversation, he knew it was hard for her and he knew she feared the time that would come. She was not only afraid of what would happen when they were locked away after their marriage but also of disappointing him. "I am a patient man Celeste, if it is not on our wedding night then that is okay, we are both young and we have time. I do not believe you will freeze when the time comes and I will be gentle and kind when it is that point. If you in fact cannot do it then we will wait until you are ready." He ran his fingers through her hair, the shimmering brown pleasing to look at. "Time can change a lot Celeste, like we said previously, one step at a time and we shall build up to it over time."

Of course he began to clam up as she asked why it was he had not been sure love existed. He was not sure how to answer, he had not spoken of his sister or childhood with anyone before. His conversation for so long had been political, only since Celeste came along had he begun to feel, to realise there was more to life than just achieving your dreams. "I don't know Celeste, perhaps it is due to the fact I have lived 25 arcs and never been intimate with a woman or felt the urge and non ignorable drive to have them. Before I met you I had never wanted to be with a woman. The only other person I ever loved in any way was my sister, Zara. My sweet and young sister, the angel and light in my childhood." Warm tears ran down his cheek as memories broke free, the laughter of his sister ringing in his ears. The vision of them running in the fields and climbing the willow tree together, all the memories overwhelming his inner defences as the streams covered his cheeks. He swallowed and closed his eyes fighting the lump in his throat.

"She died because she refused to leave my side when I was sick, she stayed with me and cared for me and caught it herself. She was weaker than me and she couldn't fight it, she was my connection to my emotions. She kept me human and she was the reason I did not feel terrible everyday, my parents never cared for me but she did. Maybe the fact that she was ripped from me too soon broke my belief in love." He sighed as he pushed down on the rampant emotions, forcing them back into their boxes in his head. The memories fading as he tried to pull up his old facade, the facade he rarely used around Celeste but felt he needed too right now as he was showing the ultimate weakness. He had given her his two greatest weaknesses now and was completely at her mercy, she knew he loved her and she now knew his plans and his painful past.

He forced a smile, rubbed away the tears and moved her up so he could look at her. "We both have ghosts from our pasts, Celeste. Memories that haunt us and can cripple us, yet, they are naught but memories and we have one another now." He brushed her hair back behind her ears and kissed her once more. The kiss was soft and comforting and in the end one to end the conversation as he leaned into it deeply, passion and emotion in control of his actions more than sense.

Her head moved in time with his breathing and she considered the symbolic nature of that, in and of itself. He moved, she moved and vice versa. Would that be what they were, could they ever actually achieve that? He spoke though, and his words caused a look of surprise to appear on her face. If she wasn't ready, he'd wait? Celeste would have lifted her head in surprise, but the feel of his hand in her hair kept her where she was. After a moment, though, she lifted her head and turned her gaze to him. Did he mean that? Could he mean that?

Either he was a consummate actor, or by the seven he did. She would have replied, had she any words which did justice to how knowing that made her feel. There was no pressure here except that which she put on herself.

Yet, that faded into nothing as he started to speak of love and the only person he had loved. His sister? Before he spoke the words Celeste had assumed the worst. There was no sister mentioned before now and Xander would have been proud to introduce that member of his family, judging by his face and expression now. Before he said it, though, tears started to fall from his eyes and Celeste's own widened in surprise at that reaction from him.

She did not hesitate, though. Gently, she wiped the tears from his face and held tightly to his hands. As the story unfolded, her own tears stood out in her eyes. "Xander, I'm so sorry." Celeste's head was reeling with this information. "Oh, my wolf. You held me in your arms when I was sick. They told you I was going to die, didn't they?" He hadn't told her that, but his father had when he had tried to force himself on her. "That would be hard enough normally, I had no idea. I am so sorry." Her eyes spoke the truth of her words, deep and emotion filled as they were.

When he spoke his last, Celeste lifted her hand to wipe the last remnants of the tears he had shed. "I will remind you every trial that you are a good man, Xander Krome. And if it is your wish, we will call our first daughter after your sister. All our children will know their Aunt, I promise you." He moved forward then and kissed her and it was unlike any kiss they had shared before, filled with emotion and the beginnings of something much more instinctual than Celeste was used to acting in response to. She pulled herself close to him and returned the kiss, her hand burying in his hair.

Where it would have led them, Celeste did not know but whilst they were held in an embrace which she would have denied the possibility of a mere season ago, there came a knocking on the door. "Damnit." Celeste whispered and she sounded as confused and disoriented as she felt. Yet she had been raised to this all her life. "It's the advisors. Xander, I... I don't think it. I know it. But I have to do this. I have to be this Baroness now. Will you do this with me? Only if you wish it, I can see them alone if you would rather. What would be your preference?" She spoke to hide the emotions she was feeling and, as she did, she returned to her usual, much more business like self.

"One moment!" she called, as the knock at the door came again and she waited for his answer as to whether he would be part of this Barony from the first trial.

He looked at her, tears still flowing free over his cheeks as she spoke. She was right they had told her she would die and he had refused to believe it, just like he had with his sister. It just appeared that this time his persistent belief had paid off because Celeste was still here. "They did say that, they told me you would die but I refused to accept it as I knew you too would refuse to die. And here you are your stubbornness prevailed." He tried to lighten the mood by teasing her as he fought back the waves of tears. It was not fitting for him to show her such weakness, to be so exploitable. She had been worried she was vulnerable to him, well he too was vulnerable now.

"I would like that, for our first born daughter to bare the name of my sister. It is most kind of you to offer that." He said his last words and after went for the kiss, the kiss that was received by Celeste with grace. He had half expected to get pushed back, he was not quite used to it all yet. This whole relationship was new to him and the feelings it brought with it were overwhelming. As was the wolf within, the urges of a pure being, basic and primal that lead him to act in such a manner. The two of them falling backwards onto the sofa in a lovers embrace, lips together and bodies warm in one another's arms.

Confusion was what he felt for the most part, unsure of his emotions and feelings. He was bad at controlling them after so long pushing them down. He struggled to truly read what they meant and to use them in a correct way, instead they often overwhelmed him. Around Celeste he was not the man he had been since his sister died, the man everyone else had seen and he had believed he had become.

Who knows where it might have lead if the door had not interrupted them, the brisk and firm knocking on the wood. He felt her breath, as she whispered, softly blow against his face. He felt his heart pounding in his chest as he released her and sat back up, a little flustered as he regained his normal appearance and state of self control. "Of course, yes, forgive me for acting so forwardly. I do not know what came over me, perhaps I need to get used to having someone so beautiful feel something as strongly as myself." He smiled at her and then stood, knowing his answer to her question.

He nodded to himself as he was sure and then spoke to her with a clear and sure voice. "I shall stand by your side, Celeste. I too will act as an advisor and as a helper, offer my opinion if you wish to hear it and I will assist you in ruling your Barony. I am not just a handsome face I can also be useful too." He tugged at his lip with his finger as he smiled again, happy to have her at his side for the future. He turned to face the door and moved to stand behind her and the sofa, opting to stay standing and more of an observer than anything else at that point. "I am yours as you are mine, I will help you with this my love." He murmured in her ear before kissing her cheek and awaiting the entrance of the advisors.

Oooh the intrigue, the drama! Lovely, guys, you have me so curious about where this is all going to go... especially with Xander's beliefs about the Kingdom and Krome's place in the world!
Great job!

One thing I will say - Xander, your font is very small, is there any chance you could enlarge it a little bit, just to make it easier on the eyes? Zooming in and out is a bit of a pain xD
