Etzos, ‘The City of Stones’ is a fortress against the encroachment of Immortal domination of Idalos. Founded on the backs of mortals driven to seek their own destiny independent of the Immortals, the city has carved itself out of the very rock of the land. Scourged by terrible wars of extermination, they've begun to grow again, and with an eye toward expansion, optimism is on the rise.

Dirt between my toes

717 Ashan 9th

It’s funny how a stray thought can occasionally lead one on an adventure. It was even an easy thought to ignore. But between the choice of no thoughts at all, or a rather silly thought was still easily made. Looking at her bare feet as she walked the woman wondered, is dirt really all that dirty?
Dirt was in and of itself a unique presence. After all it was nearly unavoidable at least on land anyway, and it wasn’t like dirt was something that you could get rid of, or even want to get rid of, without dirt where would the plants grow? Pausing for a moment and wriggling her toes in the soil by road, warmed by the Ashan sun’s rays. Dirt was really some pretty incredible stuff. When things die they’re bodies eventually become dirt, then from the dirt grows the plants that living things eat. An endless cycle that all farmers and animals understand, though it’s easy perhaps to forget when one grows to far away from the dirt. In cities where being covered in dirt, in life was not only frowned upon but disdained and called Dirty.
For the first time in a while the woman in plain clothes with a shaved head laughed, perhaps she should pursue such silly thoughts more often instead of the more serious ones that she’d taken to entertaining, like when one stops putting cream in there coffee. When something sweet comes along, it’s all the sweeter because it’s surrounded by bitter things. Letting the moment pass as her chuckle was carried along by the wind the woman Stood straighter as she went along her way, she hadn’t left town to wander aimlessly and think, she was going out to stretch her muscles and get away from the hubbub that was society. She’d been distancing herself from people more and more, and finding bits and pieces of herself as she did so. She didn’t need others to define her anymore, she was beginning the process of defining herself and finding it quite enjoyable.
“I’m dirty, and… I’m ok with that”
The words slipped past her amused smile as she walked, the ground passing beneath her strides evenly. She enjoyed the walk from Etzos the farmland plains southwest of the city; they reminded her of home. Her goal was a small copse of trees she’d discovered on one of her walks, she’d spent many an hour in there shade enjoying the sound of wind rustling through the leaves. Though she’d always been silent on her visits. This time however she’d come with a goal in mind, a one sided conversation of sorts.
This was the first time she’d visited the copse since she’d changed herself, the once garishly garbed girl that had visited the copse with hopeless eyes unable to see a future was no more. In her place stood the plainly garbed woman with shaved head and resolved eyes. Looking up at the sky she grinned.

“Xuir… Quylios… I think I get it now… Or, I’m getting it anyways. I know how I’m going to move forward. I don’t think I really understand how to give others hope, or what it means to be courageous, but I think I’ve found my starting point, I’m going to become stronger, I’m going to try and understand what is that I was missing in Treidhart, this place… it’s amoral and corrupt, but I think it’s where I’ll discover what it means to have courage, and to have hope…. So I’m breaking my silence now… Xiur I know you watch me… So I’ll try… No, I will do you proud.”

With that the Woman closed her eyes and smiled wanly. A city that hated the gods, filled with fear and evil, what more could it need than hope? But if she was going to spread hope, she needed to strength to push back the shadows and the resolve to burn brightly, something that prayer alone could not give her.

Clolsing her eye the woman spread her feat and slowed her breathing, the clearing amidst the trees became a memory of Ne’hear where monsters had once run the streets and laid waste to the city. She hadn’t been strong then, and if she had been she might have been able to turn the tides. As it was though it was a drive to become stronger. Dragging her feet through the dirt the woman Stepped forward cutting a swathe in the darkness. She’d once thought that learning to fight was like playing a game, not something she had needed to do, she’d learned to fight without her heart being in it. But now she was older and while violence was not something she liked, to prevent battle, it was perhaps best to be prepared for it.

Dirt between my toes

Taking a long breath she stood stock still closing her eyes. She was in the grove of trees but she was also within the battlefield of her own soul and mind. What would she fight for? Was it herself? What would give her the strength she wanted… no needed to carry out her goals… If not for herself, was Xiur a reason to fight, the ideals of another that she wanted to uphold? Were those strong enough. Flexing her muscles as she stood in the grove she didn’t feel any stronger as she tried to fill herself with the strong emotions she remembered.
If she didn’t have anything to fight for, no matter how good her intentions were, she wouldn’t be able to fight, it was one thing when fear took over and one’s options were fight or die. But that wasn’t the strength she wanted. The she remembered the Ne’haer. The faces of people fleeing the monster made of shadow. Militia who she’d stood with falling to the relentless onslaught as they died to protect the innocent… If there was one thing in the world worth fighting for, protecting it was the children, to create a world where they wouldn’t have to endure the tragedies she’d seen. That seemed a good enough focus, it was a start anyway.
Filling her core with that emotion, the desire to protect the girl found her strength and let it fill her body, her core. Curling a fist at her side She stepped forward, all the weight of her body and the weight of her soul into a punch. It was just that though, a punch, but it felt so satisfying. It wasn’t a faked punch or a half hearted attack, it was real, if she was facing down an opponent and she could throw an attack like the one she’d just released, perhaps she could fight.
Cracking her knuckles the girl grinned as she decided that she’d forever be the type to think too much and act too little, but she was at least working on it. For the next hour she practiced, just throwing punches. It was a simple strike from the hip. Her fist coming up to meet the nose of an opponent before her rudimentary but sometimes it’s the basics that win you the fights when flashy maneuvers fail you. Her arms slowly beginning to shake with fatigue as sweat drenched her brow and her breaths became more ragged with effort. Left, right, left, right, left right. Back and forth, her hands flew into a Rhythm, of endless punches her fists striking air but in her mind the shadows of her past. When the ache in her shoulders finally became to much and her arms dropped to her sides the dull throb of pain was in it’s own way satisfying, it was the first real evidence of any effort on her part in a long time. She’d let herself fallout of shape and it would take a little bit of work to get herself back to the capacity she’d once had, and then, surpass it. Punching from the core, an honest and straightforward attack that anyone could do. A closed fist to insure a day that the open hand would prevail, perhaps a bit melodramatic but the thought was nice.
Her limbs weary the girl sat, strengthening her body was important, but so too did she need to work on her mind. Sitting cross-legged beneath the largest tree. Clearing her mind she sat. It was so hard to find peace of mind and clarity, especially after so long of trying not to think at all. Each chittering squirrel, and chirping bird snagging her attention. For another hour she sat, without finding and deepness of thought of clarity of mind the outside world too interesting for her to pull out of it. Furrowing her eyebrows she sat refusing to budge until she made a breakthrough. Clapping her hands over he ears and screwing her eyes closed shut she held that stubborn position only to give up only a minute later. Clearing her mind was just soo hard when she couldn’t clear the outside distractions. At the very least she’d garnered one thing, the grove was full of life beyond herself. The small clearing was full of noise that she hadn’t noticed until she’d tried to ignore it. Maybe that was a lesson in and of itself. Though the final nail in the coffin of her trying to meditate was her stomach grumbling. Frowning she decided to give into her body and go home and eat, Vowing to return day after day tell she was able to meditate.

Overview

Comments: Wow, Symbri's had a big change and I'm intrigued to see where she'll go from here. I really wanted to give philosophy knowledge in this thread because there was a lot of that sort of thing but apparently philosophy isn't on the skill list, who knew? If you would like any of these knowledges to be put into philosophy regardless, PM and let me know and I'll change them. ^_^

Story: I was quite impressed by some of Symbri's thoughts and philosophies, especially in the second post. There was some good stuff there, and I really liked the part where she was thinking about fighting: how she was trying to figure out what sort of strength she wanted to use to fight. My favorite line was, "She was in the grove of trees but she was also within the battlefield of her own soul and mind." I honest to the gods had a fangirl moment over that line. Such good writing!

Structure: I almost docked a point for structure because I saw a couple simple errors that could have been fixed by perhaps another read-through? Like mix-ups between there their and they're, and feet and feat, stuff like that. Your sentence structure and punctuation was generally good, though there was once or twice that I found, for instance, a capitalized word in the middle of a sentence. Which, for all I know, could be the product of whatever form of tech you used to type the posts; I know for instance that phones are usually harder to format with. I would have liked to see the paragraphs broken up a bit more as well, just to make it easier to read.

But like I said those were mostly little things, so I thought I'd give you full points. ^_^
