• Location • The Halls of Ivy

The Seat of the Directorate and government dealings

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect.

The Halls of Ivy

The Halls of Ivy
Image
Situated directly next to the dominating structure of the Viden Academy, the Halls of Ivy is a smaller building, not half as imposing, but it is one of exquisite beauty nonetheless. Carvings of scenes throughout Idalos' history adorn nearly every inch of the building's exterior while dozens of carved spires top the captivating structure. Serving as the central government building of the Directorate, the Halls of Ivy could be considered as the heart of the city.

Entering the beautiful, ornate building, there is the option to divert your path left, which will lead an entrant to the Temple of Worship. The wide arches straight on and to the left will lead a visitor towards the government and city administration rooms. Unsurprisingly, the Directorate (consisting of the leading Máthisi and her four Delegates) work directly out of the Halls of Ivy, and each have elaborate rooms and offices at the back of the building. There is also a large conference chamber, where many have the option to meet with leading factions or visiting groups from across Idalos. As long as permission is sought, any citizen may book use of this room, for free. It is their administration staff, which numbers many, are the people that a visitor to the offices will meet. Depending on purpose, there are a number of people always on hand to help.

The Naval Force is also housed within this large building, as are the offices of the Intelligence Authority (the secret police of Viden). Anyone seeking support of the city's military and policing forces are best placed to start here. The poor souls who find themselves on the wrong side of the law will also spend a period here.

Eneli Vielus

Race: Eídisi
Age: 118 Arcs
Title: Máthisi
Blessings:
Skills: Leadership - Expert
Medicine - Competent
Persuasion - Competent
Politics - Master
Research - Master
Rhetoric - Expert
Socialisation - Competent

As with all eídisi, Eneli is quite tall, standing over six feet in height, though she is noticeably slimmer than the average (more solidly built) eídisi. She has long, curly platinum blonde hair which reaches to well below her breasts. Well into the twilight years of her long life, the Máthisi has deep lines now etched into her face, revealing many years well spent in the city, on an otherwise kind looking face. She dresses in black robes baring the symbol of a periwinkle owl on a white branch - the sign of Yvithia's most loyal. Eneli is one of the closest confidants to the Immortal of Intelligence, and is well known as her undisputed right hand. A master of manipulating the minds of others, Eneli devoted years of her younger life to excelling at all she sought to learn. Unknown to all but the closest to her, she spent her formative years serving as a researcher in the Facility for Retrospective Analysis, before being guided into politics by her patron. Yvithia was key to her student's success, and the city has seemingly thrived under the close bond between the two.

Verity Talius

Race: Eídisi
Age: 75 Arcs
Title: Delegate
Blessings:
Skills: Endurance - Competent
Leadership - Competent
Negotiation - Expert
Politics - Master
Research - Competent
Rhetoric - Competent
Tactics - Master

Verity is the chief political advisor to the Máthisi, as well as serving as ambassador when seeking to assimilate other cultures into their own society and, thus, learn more about them through the FRA. Besides Yvithia, he is Valtharn's closest contact within the city. Rumoured to be a bastard child of Yvithia's, and publicly regarded as the most popular Delegate, most resent that he will never achieve a higher status than the one he already does. His milky white eyes reveal little emotion despite the insanity that burns behind them, which is surprisingly well hidden from the general population of Viden.

This man is unusual in that Lord Verity Talius - the current head of the family - is not an Aristocrat by birth. In reality, he rose up from the Precariat class (the lowest class in Viden). The truth about Verity is that he was once human, and holds the honour (or curse) of being the newest originally created eídisi, after experiments a mere half a century ago. Despite an exceptionally drawn out time of suffering in the FRA, and numerous unnecessary experiments following his rebirth as an eídisi, he has unwavering support of Viden's secret facility, and is devout to his creator. Turned and marked thrice by Yvithia, he became an Exhalted member of the Xypha community, and soon rose to become her Champion. With senior officials in Viden keen to cover up Verity's human origins (lest the existence of the FRA be revealed to the general public), as well as to give the man a better standing, Verity took the surname of his spouse, Elise: an eídisi from one of the most affluent families in Viden, who had just inherited the title of Lady Talius which, in turn, gave him his name and title.

This unprecedented shift from nothing to a position of power was not unwarranted - Verity is much like his contemporaries in that he is unwavering in his loyalty to the Immortal Yvithia. His ruthless ambition and keen sense for politics makes him a formidable member of the Directorate, second only to the Máthisi in power. He is Yvithia's Right Hand, which is the true basis for the Talius family's growing power within Viden.

Mikael Killarney

Race: Human
Age: 37 Arcs
Title: Delegate
Blessings:
Skills: Business Management - Expert
Hunting - Expert
Persuasion - Expert
Politics - Competent
Stealth - Competent
Tracking - Master
Trading - Expert
Weapon: Longbow - Expert

One of two humans in the Directorate, Mikael was a hunter and merchant. At the prime of his life, fifteen years ago, he as unhorsed and, on his fall, caught his leg in a small crevasse, snapping his leg in two. Unable to receive treatment in time, he knew he would never walk again, and turned to politics. Abhorring sympathy from those around him, he fought for regulation around the city, citing that Viden was a place to exercise the mind, rather than the body. His rationale was that others should not be excluded from studies because of physical ailments, and the support he received was astronomical. Access through the inhospitable city has been improved tenfold, with small armies of workers set the task of keeping common paths and roads clear of heavy snowfall or ice every morning. Given his own background, he was also roped in to work with the merchants, hunters and mariners, keep to see them thrive for the benefit of the city.

Thaneus Bovuin

Race: Human
Age: 51 Arcs
Title: Delegate
Blessings:
Skills: Investigation - Expert
Leadership - Competent
Negotiation - Master
Philosophy - Competent
Politics - Expert
Research - Competent
Socialisation - Competent

Thaneus' relationship with the city and Directorate is a rocky one, now serving his second term after being re-elected. The interesting part is that his first term lasted for only three days: when he was first invited into the government offices and was told of the Facility for Retrospective Analysis, he emptied the contents of his stomach over the documents he had been ordered to sign. A short, stocky man of a good Videnese family, Thaneus left the city the day after. Just over two arcs would pass before he returned to the city, apparently with a new understanding and appreciativeness for the work carried out by the FRA. He stood for re-election that year (after the surprising removal of his own replacement), claiming that he would be a true representative for the human "minority". Though many would not see it, he has been true to his word, carefully screening new entrants into the FRA to ensure their suitability for research.

Caeli Fahe

Race: Eídisi
Age: 49 Arcs
Title: Delegate
Blessings:
Skills: Leadership - Competent
Linguistics - Competent
Persuasion - Expert
Politics - Competent
Research - Expert
Singing - Competent

The only other female in the Directorate, Caeli is constantly being groomed for the responsibility that all know she will one day bare the mantle of. Relatively new to the position, in comparison with the other Delegates, the eídisi is fully accepting of her flaws and mistakes on the job, which has endeared her to the citizens of Viden. Though known to have taken many partners throughout her younger years, she has never committed to any, and has publicly declared that she would not jeopardise her responsibility to the city by taking on a partner or starting a family. Considered to be uncommonly beautiful even by members of other races, tall and slender with straight ebony locks which frame her green-tinged skin, Caeli is one of the youngest eídisi to ever serve a term in Viden's government. It probably helps that her paternal grandfather is the Chancellor of the Academy while her father maintains a position as Head Researcher at the FRA.
