[Warrick] Family Matters (Olivia)

24th Cyclus, 717

Just one day ago he'd arrived in his family's manor and he already wanted to leave. But then one look to the cold outside persuaded him otherwise, and he considered himself lucky to be in such a large, warm home. By accident, he overheard another good reason to stay: his cousin, Olivia, was on her way to Warrick Manor.

And so he sat in the windowsill of the topmost room, gazing out into that endless field of dirt and ice, waiting for a speck to appear on the horizon. Two servants, who believed themselves to be out of earshot whispered conspiratorially behind his back. He payed them no mind, they could think him idle or dreamy all they wanted, they were just servants and their useless gossip didn't matter one iota.

Bell after bell passed, and still he waited. The tea that was brought to his chamber, for he refused to come down, had cooled completely by the time he noticed it. Bit by bit, his eyes grew heavy and his yawns more frequent, yet he remained waiting for his cousin to arrive. Many more bells passed, and still no sign of Olivia dawned on the horizon. It wasn't until night had fallen, and he had already slipped into his night clothes that he heard the clopping and whinnying of horses. At once he stormed out of his chamber and rushed down the winding staircase, barefooted, towards the front door. He was faster, by far, than the servant tending the door and pulled it open with a wide grin when the knocker sounded.

“Cousin!” he beamed from ear to ear and immediately threw his arms around Olivia, despite never having had much contact with her before. It didn't matter. He had something very important to tell her and he'd been waiting all day for her to arrive. Moreover, he'd overheard his family's plans with Olivia and Andraska and was keen to learn more about the Venora through his cousin. “I'm very glad to see you, come in, come in, you must be freezing!” He unapologetically seized her hand and pulled her into the warmth of the home, all the while chattering her ears off. “How was your journey? Are you hungry? Maybe we'll have some tea! I saw you at the ball...You must tell me all about Xander!” In reality, most of it was an act to pull Olivia along in some feigned childish excitement. Any other family who wished to greet Olivia along the way was denied the luxury, and if Olivia resisted his pull, he simply squeezed and pulled harder, trying to convince her to come along. At last they would reach his chamber at the top of the house, “oh you must see my chamber!” he said a little too loudly.

Once he'd pulled her into his bedroom and shut the door, his expression changed. “We need to talk,” he said in a low voice. “It's about your sister.” He sat down cross-legged on the middle of his bed and patted the edge of the bed, inviting Olivia to take a seat.
