Cylus 717 Writing Challenge

Do you want to improve your writing and character-building skills? Have an interest in contributing to the Standing Trials community? Need a cure for the winter doldrums?
We've got just the thing for you! This season, we’re running a global writing challenge from Feb. 1st - Mar. 31st. The challenge consists of three separate parts: Thread Challenges, Character Challenges, and Development Challenges.
A. Thread Challenges: These 10 challenges are story-focused and must be completed In-Character (IC). They can be completed in the same thread(s) or separate threads.
B. Character Challenges: These 5 challenges are OOC and are all related to your character in some way. Some require you to increase skills or knowledge, while others involve sharing information about your character with others.
C. Development Challenges: Like the Character Challenges, these 5 challenges are also OOC and all involve contributing to Standing Trials through city development or interactions with other players.

A. Thread Challenges
- 1. Write a thread that includes a door, a candle, and a bird.
2. Give a gift to another PC in-thread.
3. Have your PC tell a story from their childhood to a PC or NPC.
4. Get into a fight (verbal or physical) with another PC.
5. Write a thread that includes a necklace, a dagger, and a tree.
6. Have your PC fail at a flirtation.
7. Start a post with the line, “The smell reminds me of home.”
8. Write a thread that references an Immortal.
9. End a post with the line, “And that’s how I lost my pants.”
10. Write a thread that includes snow (or rain), a mouse, and a bard.
B. Character Challenges
- 1. Increase a skill from 0 to 15.
2. Earn 5 knowledge in a single skill.
3. Identify your PC’s goal (seasonal or overarching) and share it in the plot development forum, the personal journal forum, or in your city’s OOC Social Thread.
4. Update your thread list on your CS to include all current and past threads.
5. Create a vlog or write a personal journal entry talking about your PC.
C. Development Challenges
- 1. Submit a slang term or phrase to a city’s development thread.
2. Submit a folktale to a city’s development thread.
3. Submit a holiday, ritual, or tradition to a city’s development thread.
4. Write a thoughtful review in the player feedback forum.
5. Welcome a new player on the “Welcoming Floor!” forum.
Rewards
Like all events, the best reward is participation.

Fine, fine. For this event, there are not one, not two, but three different medals that you can earn! Every participant has the potential to earn all three medals, as long as they meet the requirements.
Cylus 717 Thread Challenge: Awarded to players who have completed the thread portion of the Cylus 717 Writing Challenge. If you complete all 10 thread challenges, then you are eligible to receive this medal.
Cylus 717 PC/Dev Challenge: Awarded to players who have completed the development and character portion of the Cylus 717 Writing Challenge. If you complete all 5 character challenges and all 5 development challenges, you are eligible to receive this medal.
Cylus 717 All Star: Awarded to players who have completed all of the Cylus 717 Writing Challenge! If you complete all 10 thread challenges, all 5 character challenges, and all 5 development challenges, you are eligible to receive this medal.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need to sign up to participate?
Nope! Anyone can participate. No sign-ups required. In order to receive your medals, all you need to do is complete the Submission Form at the bottom of this post and provide the required links. That said, we definitely encourage posting in our OOC/Q&A thread so that you can connect with other players and egg each other on!
2. Do memory threads count towards the thread challenge? What about threads in Emea?
Yes and yes! Memory threads and threads in Emea both count towards the thread challenge.
3. Do each of the thread challenges have to be completed in separate threads?
That's a big nope. You're welcome to complete the thread challenges however you like (ex. 10 threads, 5 threads, 1 thread) as long as the threads all make sense from an IC perspective.
4. Do my threads need to be reviewed before I can submit them for the thread challenge?
No, your threads do not have to be reviewed before you submit them. You may submit an in-progress thread as long as the challenge has been completed.
5. Does my development need to be approved?
No, your development submissions do not need to be approved in order to complete the Development Challenge. That said, please use common sense and submit thoughtful development items that could be useful to the city moderator. If we feel your submission does not show any effort, we reserve the right to ask you to edit it with more information before deeming the challenge complete.
6. When is the last day to complete the challenge and make my submissions?
The challenge runs from February 1st - March 31st. All challenge responses must be posted or started within that time frame. We do acknowledge that it may take some time to write your thread(s), so we will leave the submission forms open for one month after the event closes.
