Bruised Mashroot
Discovered by Ice Caves Expedition. Developed by Kali'rial
Found: ScalvorisToxicity/Hazard: none
Appearance: Bruised Mashroots are a culinary delight, sought after in most respectable kitchens for their wonderful taste and the starchy filling properties. An altogether hearty vegetable coming in blue, black and even purple, reminiscent of bruises on the skin. These bulbous roots grow in cold dark soil, with little care actually required except an occasional watering. Once pulled and washed, the root itself can be cooked a variety of ways. Steaming, boiling, frying, baking and mashing. Their colours become more vibrant after cooking, which lends to some beautiful table creations from across Scalvoris. Perhaps the most enjoyed way is mashing, as this breaks the small cells of oil in the vegetable and intensifies the taste. People have described the flavour as sweet, yet still savoury, with a morish undertone of elderflower. This curious combination allows the Mashroots to be combined with a variety of different ingredients, herbs and spices. Due to the quick way the roots can fill you up, they are a fantastic staple in any travellers pack. A little goes a long way.
Properties: Very filling, very tasty.
Other Information:
Rarity: Uncommon in the wild, but easy for a good gardener to cultivate.
How To Use: Pretty much anyway that can be culinarily imagined, provided it is cooked. The raw root is slightly bitter and very hard to bite.
Side Effects: It will stain your hands, clothes, mouth - basically anything it comes into contact with. This staining can range from a light blue, to an intense violet and a deep black. This staining will fade off the body in a couple of trials. It will not come out of clothing. An avid tailor might find this of value.
Status: Legal.
Price: Currently not yet for sale. Will be for sale from Vhalar 717 ~ 3sn per bag of ten.
