Faith had been hired as a tutor having answered an advertisement pinned on the Odd Job Board. A family called the Becketts were planning on travelling to Andaris and wanted to make sure that their twin children were suitably aware of the etiquette surrounding the place, it's customs and traditions. Faith had fallen into a teaching role on more than one occassion, including running cookery classes for small groups, so she was fairly comfortable with teaching. She was certainly more than comfortable with etiquette and, as such, the young woman had taken the job. It was only fair, she felt, to do so and to give the money from the job to the Order of the Adunih. They were putting her and Padraig up for nothing, after all. So, she arrived at the appointed time and she did so fully prepared with information and notes which she had made.
It was a nice house, and a large one. Faith was shown in by a servant and led into a room where a sibling pair sat. Twins they might be but they looked as different as any siblings could. Both of them had eyes the colour of the sea on a stormy day but, other than that he was tall, her short. He was muscular, she looked like she'd blow away in a breeze. They both smiled though and Faith did something which she hadn't done in a while but which, when faced with a rich family and a job to do was still more or less inevitable, the young woman dropped a curtsy and smiled. "I am Faith, I will be your tutor in etiquette specific to Andaris city," she said.
They looked at her and the boy spoke. They both seemed friendly, at first glance. "I am Sim'na and this is my sister, Fi. Please, sit down."
Faith sat and started to get out the notes and so on that she had with her, placing them in front of her. "Alright, so before we begin do you know anything about Andaris at all?" The pair of them shook their heads and Faith was struck by the similarities of their movements, how they had the same facial expression on very different faces. How intriguing.
"Alright, so Andaris is a Kingdom. It is ruled by a King, his name is Cassander and he is sixteen arcs old. There are seven noble families and each family is in charge of a Duchy." The pair of them looked at her and smiled, encouragingly. Faith recalled what she had planned and she rummaged in her bag. "To function in Andaris society, you must know who the noble families are, so we are going to do an exercise I have prepared for you"
They looked less keen on that, in fairness, but Faith pulled out a piece of parchment covered with her usual, neat, handwriting. "Alright. This table is blank except for the names of the noble families. Here," she put down a wrapped pile of pieces of paper, cut up to fit on to the blank table ~ they each contained facts about the family, what they were most famous for, which their virtue was and so on. She looked at the two of them as she tipped them out and then put another piece of paper in front of them. "And this is a list of clues. There are enough clues in there for you to work out which family each of those facts belong to, either by a process of elimination, by a clue which tells you that this fact does not fit that family or by deduction. So, it is a puzzle of logic. You may begin."
It took them longer to do than she had hoped that it would, but they approached it with enthusiasm and asked questions as needed. It was the girl, Faith noticed, who picked up the logic needed by the task. Once they got the hang of it, they stopped asking questions so much, lowered their heads together and got on. Faith worked with them, but let them get on with the majority of it, just pointing out here and there. When it was done, they had a table with information about each of the families but, as she had planned, they had spent three quarters of a break talking about them and thinking about them. Which meant, they were much more familiar with them. "Good. You did well. Your homework is to copy that out, a copy each and you are to do your own."
