Vega's mother, who was Sev'ryn, died in giving birth to her. Joq'an, her Biqaj father, did his best to raise his daughter the best ways he could, joining his extended family on a crew in the Orm'del sea. From her earliest memories, Vega has felt sick on boats and since she has lived most of her life with her father and extended Biqaj family, that has been something of a difficulty for her. Recognising this, her father did his best to stop at land as often as he could, but Vega wished he wouldn't. It just showed her as different and everyone in the crew knew it. She tried her best to fit in, finding that she had a good knack with blades and with the short bow, so she practised with those as much as she could, preferring her own company from that of her cousins.
As she grew, and the differences between her and her Biqaj family continued to become more and more evident, Vega made herself more distant with each trial. Eventually, the young girl might realise that she was as much a cause of the rift between her and her family as any perceived difference, but as an early teen she embraced the drama of it. Pushing herself to help out as a crew member, she grew physically stronger each trial but never quite lost the appearance of someone who didn't quite all fit together. She was tall very early and almost inevitably had scrapes on her knees, elbows and chin from falling or slipping on the deck.
After arcs of living and working on the ship, when she was fourteen arcs old, the family vessel was docked in some nameless place ( Vega never bothered to find out) and she and her father were ashore. He had never spoken about her mother and so, Vega plucked up the courage to ask. She may as well not have, because he refused point blank to answer. Vega got irritated, so did he and the pair of them started shouting. Standing there, in the middle of the street in a marketplace, they were yelling and screaming at each other. Vega had always lived like this, they had highly passionate spirits and every now and then things would just blow up. That was fine, they both knew that within moments they would be laughing and hugging again. But this city was unlike the ship where everyone knew them both and a man tried to get involved, grabbing her father roughly and telling him to leave the young girl alone. Vega jumped at the man who was hurting her father, or trying to, leaping immediately to her father's defence. A fight broke out and all hell broke loose. Her father, seeing what was happening and how ugly things were quickly turning, grabbed Vega and they ran. Somehow, they got to outside the city and took cover in the surrounding area, a woodland.
Where they proceeded to get unutterably lost. They wandered in those forests for nearly ten trials, Vega just about managing to catch them rabbits with her bow, and her father cooking them. She and he learnt a lot about survival in the woodlands in those trials until, eventually, they made their way back out. During the time they were in there, though, her father spoke to her about her mother. Each night he would tell her stories of how he and her mother had met, fallen in love and how their families both had been unhappy with the match. So, rather than deal with it like they should have, they'd run away. Choosing to live alone, they'd bought a small sloop and were quite content. When they'd found out that her mother was pregnant, they'd been delighted but Vega knew, without asking, that her father felt guilty. She found out why, when he told her that her mother had died giving birth ~ the two of them had planned to dock in the nearest port in a few trials and were sure that they had lots of time, but Vega was born earlier than expected and her father had been helpless. Unwilling to hurt him more, she stored away every bit of the story and simply kissed him goodnight. It had always been what she had suspected but to know that her mother had died to bring her into the world was something which weighed heavily on her. She felt, most clearly, the desire and need to find out more about her Sev'ryn nature in that moment.
They finally found their way out of the woods and back to the family where they were greeted with that strange mixture of relief and annoyance for all the worry that only family can manage. Vega started to feel a change that trial, beginning to realise that she had accepted and embraced her role as 'different' than her family. Maybe she had even caused it. She began working with her family more, accepting that she was one of them no matter what. She began to form a plan and so began a routine for her of getting up early and using the many ropes on the boat to build up her strength. Her muscles ached at first, but she kept going. She also practiced with her sword and her bow, hoping that she would be good enough to survive on her own.
Then, just before her 20th birthday she went to speak to her father. He already knew what she was going to say and, before she said it, he gave her his blessing to go; to travel in the world and to know that she can always come back. He told her that he was, and would always be, proud of her and that more than that, he was sure her mother would be too. She left that trial.

Your mother had always been a mystery to you, something that was ever in reach but further away than the stars. A chanced event with your father clarified much of your questions and even gave you a small image of who she was as a person. However, your Sev'ryn nature sought to find the roots of your heritage and while your father sent you on your way with his blessing, he also provided a small clue, a letter, that would help lead you to Desnind.
The letter was addressed to your father from your Aunt, Najina, who had requested some time ago to see you. Due to family conflicts, he felt it best to stay away from his wife's homeland but now that you're venturing out into the world, those ideals have changed. Apparently the family that your mother hailed from was quite respected within the Sev'ryn community. How much standing did they have, one cannot be too sure.
