[Willow Woods] Man in a trap (Clementine)

Image
15th Zi'da, Arc 716

He had seen nothing all trial, he had been walking through the cold and empty forest for breaks without anything happening. Where was it, the horse from the Job board was still nowhere to be found. He had found some tracks and inside the forest there were more than in other places yet he still couldn't find her. He stepped carefully through the forest examining the forest floor and the trees around him. At least last time he had seen something, a flash of movement in the distance whereas this trial completely nothing. He was beginning to give up for the trial his hope was running thin and he couldn't find the strength, his emotions flickered towards sadness and discomfort as the trial was coming up fruitless and he realised he may not be able to afford the trip home.

He was about to turn around and head back when he heard something, a sort of stomping sound came from a bush ahead of him. He felt the breath leave his lungs as he walked forward towards the origin of the sound. Could it be that he had found the horse, it had been near him all this time. He stepped forward and into a small clearing, an empty clearing. His hope suddenly flushed from his mind as he again had not found it. He couldn't help but feel disheartened, who wouldn't after spending all trial searching and following tracks to find nothing. He stepped forward further into the clearing scratching his head with thought and not observing his surroundings.

He stepped another step into the clearing, his foot landing on something that was definitely not the forest floor. Before he had time to look down he felt something wrap around his leg. It was tight and painful, he felt it pull on his leg, pierce the skin and on the slippery patch of ground he was on he lost his footing. He groaned in pain as he slammed into the ground and looked down at his leg. Some form of hidden trap was around his leg. He could not see it but he could feel it. His leg burned and lines of blood streamed out from the trap as he lay still trying not to make it worse. "Syayvi, syayvi, syayvi, herwìva tare, gbà syayvi!" he spoke the words with a mix of anger and pure disappointment. His face was red and his fists clenched as he tried to calm himself down.

He lay looking up at the canopy over head as he tried to think how to get out. He had no weapons with him, so he couldn't cut himself free. His leg burned as his knuckles turned white. He looked around him, all he saw was an empty forest and it was already late afternoon. He was in big trouble if he didn't find a way out, he didn't like his chances of surviving a night trapped in a snare. As he lay trapped he found a prayer sneaking onto his lips. "Oh Moseke, sev aji av ọfiisi, ke’u helped eo ha'k sọ sani siliki trials ekmouok tioni murädï sev waje ohunkohun ar littafi ara ïdäkẹjï. Chunïhchọ av äyäbä sọ anou longer dabi ke’u isokuso eo. Sev lushiv tä ke’u tare tä daradara eo anou kọ ar anou hufwetsyìp tä ìparí akoko, wätäkïlä eo snafpìlfya sev diuv dabaru ïdäkẹjï ẹyïtï. Muradi ọwọpọ daradara eo kọ."

His prayer ended and he sat up immediately after reaching to his lower leg where he was caught. He grimaced as he pushed the tight wrap hard with his hands attempting to force his leg free. He knew this was a foolish endeavor and not the correct method. However, he had no choice he could not cut himself free, he could not see the string to remove it safely and he had no companion to help him. He howled in pain before dropping back down into a lying position, having only worsened the situation.

[Willow Woods] Man in a trap (Clementine)

Late in the afternoon Clementine was heading back up the trap line as she had reaped her bounty resetting or replacing snares designed for small game and while the intention of the mechanism was intended to break a critters neck through bait to coherse it's throat through the noose and trip the sticks that held the tension at bay. It wasn't unheard of to hear about people getting caught up in one by carelessly walking into it, luckily it hadn't been a spring loaded jaw trap one loaded for bigger game could shatter ones shin effortlessly.

It was either a cry of pain, or a yell for help that echoed amongst the woods. It had caught her attention as she was heading back home, she'd done well for herself today. A few squirrels and another rabbit, she was pleased with the fruits of her labor. But her pull cart was pushed into tall grass, and her beloved Ghillie suit came out it was nothing more then a cloak with netting to tie in grass leaves and moss and her crossbow which had already been engaged found itself in her capable hands. Preperation was a key to survival something she was learning a lot about was murphys law when it came to field craft and wilderness survival.

She wasn't running in there to be a valiant hero, but thieves do steal and she'd rather put a dirty rat down then allow it to siphon her livelihood. People steal out here, no lawmen to keep the peace and you could either fix the problem yourself or consciously allow it to continue. A night or two starving in your cave makes the decision easy, Clementine was firm on her disposition and that was dead men tell no tales.

She'd keep herself scarce, as her Owl fluttered from branch to branch keeping his keen eyesight and hearing on the lookout for monsters or potentially the thiefs friends. All that work and effort for a -scrumdiddlyumptious- tid bit of rodent. It was how the owl was trained, I'd he was well fed it would have been pointless to take him out. There was a balance a very critical one for using bird of prey as hunting companions.

Clementine stayed low until she had visual confirmation of the target, she stayed close to the trees as she hugged the shadows and stalked slowly but surely towards his position. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel as she realized he had no where to go as this stranger was strung up by a snare, as her breathing steadied calming her nerves. Hand reached for the trigger as she let the roving bolts feathery fin guide her aim as it slowly rested comfortably on her targets center of mass waiting for sweet release.

Curious, her observations were starting to tell a different story. No weapon? No hunting gear? Stuck foot first instead of hand, she processed this information slowly using the intelligence she gathered about him to come to the conclusion he may have haphazardly tripped the trap. And while her ability to gather information was atrocious, this seemed like a no brainer but she would exercise caution on her advance because she was using only visual aids.

He seemed preoccupied with his attention on the snare as she came towards him from behind this strategy seemed like a good tactic to keep herself concealed while she was attentively listening for Hoots alarm.

Keeping the crossbow raised towards his face in an attempt to intimidate him psychologically when he turned around she would pry for information Clementine would ask once.

Who are you?
Why are you here so deep in the forest?

He felt the presence of someone behind him. Then came the words. She asked who he was. "Ti'niva." he responded immediately probably faster than he should have. Then came the second question following his response. She asked why he was there, a simple question with a complicated answer. "I searching for escaped horse." He said as he faced the end of a crossbow. He wondered if she knew what that was, he thought how it could sounds like a lame excuse.

A girl stood at the end of the bow cloaked in a strange cloak that appeared to look like the forest around it. What an interesting item, he wondered if he could get one for himself. She was rather small, and without the bow Ti would have felt no need to be afraid. He kept a straight face attempting not to show any kind of threatening or trusting emotions. He did not want to be hurt because she thought he would hurt her. Neither did he want to be exploited due to seeming too trusting.

"Would you me help? I stuck in trap." He said explaining the obvious but not wanting to leave things to chance. It was like hunting, if you didn't control enough variables you would never catch your prey. However, here the variables were his emotions, persuasive skills and patience and his prey was freedom and his life. Ti had been near to death a few times in his life, but in none had he been truly defenceless like he was here.

He wondered if the trap belonged to the girl. She seemed pretty adept in her skills and the fact that she was here made it more likely. To noticed an owl flying around above them, moving between the tree branches. It was interesting to see an owl in the day unless it was not a wild owl. Ti knew little about the domestication of birds and it was completely possible that you couldn't even domesticate owls.

He shook the thought and returned to assessing the situation and avoiding his death.

[Willow Woods] Man in a trap (Clementine)

What was a Familiar? It sounded dangerous like magic, was he a cultist? The forest was rife with weird happenings as of late, and it was a dangerous time what with all the intrigue and ominous happenings taking place.

Well your certainly injured, the more you wrestle around the tighter the snare gets. See that bent branch all that tension is in the cable, keep messing with it and I promise it will eat through your ankle.

She'd decided that Ti, was not a threat and if he had magic he would have used it to free himself by now. No sane person would let that rip them open for that long. She put the crossbow down next to the bent branch and jostled out her hand hatchet that was stuffed in her make shift rope belt.

Really sorry about that, all kinds of crazy shit has been happening and it's scary. A girls gotta be careful there's ~monsters~ in these woods.

As she spoke the hatchet hacked, chopped, and cleaved the branch until it finally broke under its own tension, the snare would loosen around his foot allowing him to free himself if he so desired.

Ya know, your injured and it's already getting late you might want to consider coming with me and staying the night. Might be able to get that wrapped up, and get you fed, Bayward is some distance but it's the closest city and I haven't the medical supplies or know how to deal with this. I'm sure it's nothing but shot can go south pretty quick, besides your bleeding and the scary shit that comes out at night might follow you.

You can have roasted rabbit and a warm fire to sleep cozy, or a shitty miserable death after hours the choice is yours.

She picked her crossbow back up and snare wire before heading back to her pull wagon.

Hop in for just a moment

She'd rather try and stop the bleeding before having him walk, she thought the damage from the snare wasn't to bad but it's the bleeding that concerned her. Field craft came into play, a blood trail back into her home was inviting some seriously bad shit to happen and she wasn't having that.

Ti watched helplessly as he was cut free from the snare. He sighed with relief as the cable went slack and loosened around his ankle. He was overjoyed that she had decided not to kill him. Death had not been in his plan for the day, and now it looked like he might live. Although he could not be sure that she was to be trusted, yet right now he had little choice.

He leaned forward and removed the cable from around his leg.  He looked up at the woman as she spoke, she had a very slight frame yet seemed strong somehow. Maybe it was experience, or maybe something else. Ti liked it, strength was something all who live in a forest need. Himself coming from around Desnind and living in the most magical forest of Idalos was respectful of anyone who took the same difficult lifestyle as himself.

He listened closely as she spoke of strange happenings and dangerous monsters and finally a slow cold wet death. He smiled awkwardly as this was followed by an invitation to stay the night with her. "I would much appreciate your help and the safety of your home." He could not refuse she was right it was late and he would never manage to get home to Treth now he would have to leave in the morning.

She brought over the cart and he pushed himself up into it. Sitting on the edge and examining his wounded leg he said, "Rabbit sound delicious, it been while since I ate rabbit." He had experienced much worse wounds that what he currently has but he was thankful for the help. "You know I walk if we stop it bleeding." He was sure the injury was only superficial and of no real threat. He allowed her to tend his wound.

"I know not your name?" He said questioningly as he realised she had not told him. He noticed her eyes now for the first time, they were quite stunning. He had never seen eyes that colour and he couldn't help but this how beautiful they were in the evening light. Once she was finished he stood up and tested his leg with a broad smile to show all was okay. "See good, all good." He said bashfully suddenly realising some stray thoughts that had crossed his mind following the examination of her eyes. He shunned himself silently.

He had become more animalistic in his social interactions much due to his time in the forest. He often thought inappropriate things, forgetting about social convention and political correctness. He turned away from her and looked up to the sky the sun's almost gone from sight. "We go, you lead way." He said as he returned to facing the woman his composure regained.
